Scattered Brains

Micah:  Okay, so we're all agreed?

Rusty:  Yes, it's time to have a group discussion with Jan about her scattered brains!

Cyndi:  No, no, no!  Jan does not have scattered brains; she has been becoming increasingly scatterbrained.

Rusty:  That's what I said.

Micah:  Not exactly.

Percy:  Can we get this meeting over with?  It's past time for my cowisthenics.

Taylor:  Oh, great, you're starting to sound like Jan.  It's calisthenics.

Percy:  Not if you learned your exercise routine from watching cows on TV.  Marcus, are you with us kitties on this?

Marcus:  Yep! At least I think so.  I'm still not sure what scattered brains are.

Micah:  We all know know Binky from Angelwhisper2011.  Binky has been being harassed by a bird.  We left a comment saying we hope the bird will move elsewhere.

Marcus:  What does that have to do with Jan's brains?

Rusty:  Everything.  As you know, the heat and humidity have Jan too tired to do much of anything, including think.  Yesterday a friend took her out of town for lunch.

Taylor:  When Jan got home, she sat down at the computer and tried to stay awake; however, when she read the email - actually our email notification - stating Binky had responded to our comment saying the bird is waiting every morning and is very annoying, Jan went right over to Binky's blog to write a suggestion.

Cyndi: Jan came thiiiisssss close to asking Binky, have you tried barking at it?

Marcus:  So?

Rusty:  Binky is a C-A-T.

Marcus:  Oh. **light bulb**  Oh, now I get it.  It's like when I walked Jan just before sundown last night, we passed a guy walking with a female version of me.  (Wow, is she gorgeous!)  The guy and the lovely dog crossed the street, and Jan called out a cheery, "Gooood morning!"

Micah:  Good example.  Now let's go have a talk with Jan and see if we can fix her.

Taylor:  I think it's too late.  I hear snoring from the kitchen.

Southern Dialect Goose

Marcus:  Honk, honk, honk -

Cyndi:  What's the matter, Marcus?  Do you have a cold?

Marcus:  No.  I'm practicing my honks.

Cyndi:  Oh, you're on the driving kick again and you're pretending to be a car horn?

Marcus:  Of course not.  All of you made fun of me when I insisted I can speak fluent goose.  (Late for a Recital ) You insisted geese honk and don't have a second language, so I'm practicing my honking to see if they understand me any better.  I doubt it, but I'm willing to try since we're going to have more geese than this arriving soon for the cold weather.

Cyndi:  You do know today is Flashback Friday and you honking does not constitute a flashback?

Marcus:  It's a flashback for me.  I'm remembering all those great conversations I've had with geese.

Cyndi:  And I'm remembering all the delusions you're posted about speaking geese ... er, goose.  You know, bird!    (Swiss Cheese TheoryMarcus Two StepMister I Speak GeeseA Honkless HolidayTranslating Goose to DogGiggle of Goose GaggleMarcus Speaks Geese.)

Marcus:  Hey, thanks for gathering our conversations together so I can go back and review them.  It will make it easier to compare results over time.  I'll be very surprised if they can understand me when I honk, but if I work on my accent, it should work.

Cyndi:  Of course, that's it!  You have to honk in the same dialect as the arriving geese and most of them don't speak with a Southern accent.

Marcus:  I'm glad you understand.  The rest of the Funny Farmers think I'm off my trolley.

Cyndi:  You speak geese with a Southern drawl.  What's not to understand?  **cough, cough**

Marcus:  Are you okay?  You haven't caught the cold I don't have, have you?

Cyndi:  No, no, I'm fine, just have a goose feather tickling my funny bone.

Funny Farm Hotel

Rusty:  Meet Puppy.  Yes, Puppy.  That's his name.  And he's the third guest to stay at the Funny Farm Hotel in less than a year.

Marcus:  I'm going to have to start charging for the use of my spare crate.

Rusty:  You do and you'll have to start paying Jan for digging it out, setting it up and breaking it down.

Marcus:  What about a tip jar in a corner?

Rusty: Puppy was a pretty cool guy.  Quiet, polite.  Nothing like you Marcus.  He never screeched once!  In fact, when we met at the back door, he lowered his head and I head-bonked and rubbed against him.  Not a good picture but Jan loves the memory.

Marcus:  I thought Jan said I was her last puppy.

Rusty:  You were, but a neighbor found Puppy at his back door Tuesday.  Puppy ate all the cats' food outside and went to sleep.  There was thunder and lightning from an approaching storm and the neighbor was afraid the pup would end up in the road hit by a car, so he called Jan.

Marcus:  Jan prepared his room and I gave him the house rules.  #1 - I am in charge!

Rusty:  I dare you to say that to Jan.

Marcus:  There's no need to mention that to her.

Rusty:  Jan took a couple of pictures and posted them to facebook.  Lots of helpful people shared her post and at 10:00 pm, she received a message from Puppy's owner.  He had gotten out that morning and wandered off.

Marcus:  Jan played musical crates again.  Me in my room, Puppy with the run of the house for a while.  Then we'd switch.   He liked his room.  As you can see, the door is open here.  He went in on his own.

Rusty:  He was so neat.  When he peed his training pad, he'd fold it over and then wad it up.  Most of the time he went outside, though.

Marcus:  His owner had to work till 8:00 pm Wednesday, so Jan took advantage and spent time sitting out on the porch cuddling Puppy.  He had never worn a collar or been on a leash before but he did well.  Jan said good-bye to him at 9:30.  She enjoyed having him here for a day and a half, but she was glad he was able to return home to his family.

Rusty:  When Jan asked the pup's name, she was told, "My daughter just calls him Puppy."  Although we had never met this neighbor, we did mention her house in our post Strange Plumbing Problems.  Life is full of humor.

Percy:  We Funny Farmer Felines have a new interview for you this week.  Cleo from Peeballs and Poopblogs.  (Blog was named by her angel brother Orbit, not sweet Cleo.)

The Intruder

Marcus:  Hey, Cyndi, I heard there was an intruder Tuesday night.  What's the story?

Cyndi:  We had a huuuuuuge, gigantic cat get into the house and it ate over two bowls of our cat food before Jan chased it away.

Marcus:  I hadn't heard.  That must have been scary.

Cyndi:  It was.  I'm blind, but I knew there was something reallllly big beside me on the washing machine where our food and water are kept.

Marcus:  How did it get up that high?

Cyndi:  It must have jumped.  Or perhaps it used the steps Jan put there for me to get up and down.  A short step and a high stool.

Marcus:  It's lucky I missed it or I would have torn it limb from limb.

Cyndi:  Don't brag.  You would have run for your crate and closed the door.

Marcus:  How did it manage to eat three bowls of your food?  I would think Jan would have figured there was a problem by the second bowl.

Cyndi:  She was a bit confused.  Our bowl was empty.  She filled it.  It was empty again.  She wondered why we were so hungry and licked up every crumb, but filled it a third time.  And then -

Marcus:  And then what happened?

Cyndi:  It was late at night.  Jan walked into the kitchen without turning on the light, but the the room behind her was lit .  She was thoroughly shocked to see the looming shape of a giant cat on top of our washer munching away.

Marcus:  Did she run?

Cyndi:  No, but it jumped down and ran away.  As it raced past her, Jan let out one loud and frightening shriek -

MARRRRCUUUUUUUUUUS!!!!!.

Marcus:  I still don't understand why Jan blamed me.

Cyndi:  The next time you want to play innocent, wipe the crumbs off your face first.

Taylor:  We interviewed another cat this week.  There were two - Emma and Buster - but only Buster responded.

Percy:  Cat got Emma's tongue?

Taylor:  Guess so.

Percy:  You can read Emma and Buster the Posey Cat at Mousebreath.

Let There Be Light

Micah:  Do you think Jan is going to make it through the summer?

Rusty:  I hope so.  Why do you ask?

Micah:  Well, if she is supposed to be ancient, why is she working so hard in this weather?  Heat and humidity mean it's time for extra naps but she's been doing extra work.  Is she backwards or what?

Rusty:  Definitely backwards!  But we've had so much rain everything is growing like weeds and she can't keep up.  Remember this tree limb? (Sawing Branch as Percy Turns 14) She sawed it off on Sunday and fortunately, got some help cutting it up or she wouldn't have been able to open our canned food this week.

Micah:  It did help to let some sunshine in the side yard so the grass won't die. But it wasn't enough.  So Tuesday, she looked and found the limb on the neighbor's tree she cut over our property last year had branched out and grown over our yard again.

Rusty:  So Jan cut it?

Micah:  Um, not exactly.  She couldn't reach it with the saw on a pole, so she used a "grabber" for disabled people to pick up things, grabbed and pulled the end of the branch, leaned her weight on it until it started to crack, twisted it round and round, back and forth, leaned on it a few more times and finally it broke off!

Rusty:  That's what it gets for growing over our yard and blocking sunlight, but that sure is a strange way to take down a branch.

Micah:  Yes, but you know Jan often has a strange way of accomplishing things.  This was a smaller-sized branch and Jan was able to cut this one up by herself.

Rusty:  And then Wednesday morning she got a shock!  Our neighbor has refused to cut his bushes.  Our phone and power lines run through them.  They also block sunlight from our pen.

Micah:  I remember this is what it looked like over there last year.  With all the rain we've had, those bushes grew higher than the pole where the lines are attached.  Between our tree, their tree and their jungle, it's been a bit dark and claustrophobic over here.

Rusty:  Jan practically did a dance when those two guys showed up to trim the bushes next door. When they left, our power and phone lines had been liberated and there is now a small path for sunlight to the dog pen.

Micah:  Do you think Jan was serious when she said she could kiss the neighbor's landlord for sending those guys over to do the trimming on their property?

Rusty:  No, you know how humans are always saying things they don't mean.

Micah:  Unlike us.  We always mean what we say.

Rusty:  By the way, you promised to repay the two dollars you borrowed last week.

Micah:  And I will.  Just as soon as my ship comes in.

Cyndi:  It's been a few months since we Funny Farmer Felines last posted a Mousebreath interview.  Today we feature the Hipster Kitties from Dennis the Vizsla's blog.  Many of you know them.  The little black and white cats and the big red one with the white face.  What do you mean the big one is an imposter?  Are you sure?

Percy:  Stop by Mousebreath to read their interview, Hipster Kitties Charlee and Chaplin  … and Dennis.

Rusty, Dr. Seuss and March Lost

Have a blessed Easter Sunday.

Cyndi: Wow! We've been missing a whole month! We were working on posts for early March when Win 10 suddenly decided to change settings and put our computer into permanent hibernation, so we're just going to combine the posts here. We're not actually back yet but hope to be soon.

Micah:  March 1st was Rusty's 14th birthday.  He's still a handsome guy and we're sure happy he is still with us.

Cyndi:  Happy belated birthday wishes from all of us, Rusty.

Rusty:  Thank you.  But have you seen my cake?  I can't find it.

Micah:  I haven't seen your cake but Jan's in the kitchen.  You should ask her - .

Rusty:  Thanks.  I'll go check.

Micah:  - if she left you any.

Marcus:
I promised to fill Sam's hats,
But I don't have his whacky knack.
I miss all these guys,
so hats I will try,
But, Sam, I'm a quack in your hat.

March 2nd was the day we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss, the author of those zany books for children.  Sam always loved any day he could wear a hat and was well-known for wearing either the wrong hat for the occasion or the wrong size.  He is dearly missed, as are the other five Funny Farmers in the graphic that have passed away over our blogging years.  (Sam, Buddy, Jenny, Cotton, Crystal & Cameron.)  We remember them with a smile on this zany day.

Percy: Our Kitty Loaf interview was scheduled for Friday, March 2nd. That was all set to self-publish so it ended up as our only March post.  If you haven't read it yet, stop by Mousebreath to meet Kitty Loaf Cats Arya and Django.

Taylor:  A month is a long time, Percy.  Do you suppose anyone remembers us?

Percy:  Jan can't remember remember Diddly Squat any more but hopefully some of our readers have a better memory than she does..

Merci Was Sleeping

Marcus:  HEY, GUYS, GUESS WHAT!

Percy: Shhhhh!  Merci is sleeping.  You'll wake her up.

Marcus:  She should get up and come outside to play a rousing game of fetch with me.

Percy:  She's old.  She needs her rest, not a rousing game of fetch.  One day you'll be old and want to sleep all the time too.

Marcus:  No, I'm never going to get old and sleepy.  If I do, who will keep Jan awake when she starts nodding off at 1 a.m.?

Percy:  I think the question would be more like, when you are old, who will awaken you at 1 a.m. so you can annoy the daylights out of Jan?

Marcus:  Don't worry.  I'll read the directions to learn how to reset Jan's alarm clock.

Percy:  And I suppose you'll borrow her glasses to read them?

Marcus:  But I have perfect vision.  Oh ... you mean when I supposedly get older.

Percy:  Yes, when you grow old, you will have to borrow Jan's reading glasses to see the dial and wear a hearing aid to hear the alarm.

Marcus:  Then I definitely don't want to grow old.

Percy:  You don't have a choice.  If you live long enough,  you will grow old.  By then you won't mind.  You'll have accepted it.   Merci did.  Where are you going?

Marcus:  To apologize to Merci for yelling when I entered the room.

Percy: But she's sleeping.  You'll wake her up!

Cyndi:  Spyder and Gracie are our interview subjects this week.  They don't have a blog yet but plan to.  You can read Presenting Spider and Gracie at Mousebreath.

Trusty Old Blue Ball

Micah:  You look pretty intense there, Marcus.  Is the ball threatening you?

Marcus:  No, it wouldn't dare threaten me.  Can't take my eyes off it for a second, though.

Micah:  Why, would it run away if you do?

Marcus:  I was waiting for Jan to try to kick it. She's sneaky, but I'm faster than she is sneaky.

Micah:  Oh, so you were playing soccer?

Marcus:  No.  She picked it up and threw it so we played chase.

Micah:  You don't play catch?

Marcus:  Rarely.  Jan usually throws it past me so it's hard to catch.  But I am good at catching if she bounces it.

Micah:  I'm all for anything that exercises you and tires you out so you leave the rest of us alone for a few minutes.

Marcus:  Jan might have returned my red ball to Amazon (Sending Red Ball on Vacation) but I still have my trusty old blue ball with the tooth holes in it.  Oh, and by the way, the rope toy Jan accidentally threw into the tree a few months ago finally fell down into the pen.  So if this ball should happen to fall apart for no reason, I'll still have something to chase.

Micah:  So your new blue ball is now your trusty old blue ball.  Interesting.  But you do know, I hope, if this ball should happen to fall apart, it will certainly NOT be for no reason!

Marcus:  You're right.  If this ball falls apart, it will be Jan's fault.  She's awfully hard on my toys!

Percy:  Our interview this week is with Sophie, Dexter and Olive.  You can read Three Chatty Cats Chat on Mousebreath.

Our N Rated Blog

Taylor:  Hey, who is that?

Cyndi:  That's Buckwheat, our Mousebreath interview subject this week.

Percy:  He's from the Phin, Feather and Furr Gang.

Micah:  Gang?  I don't see any gang tattoos, at least not where they're noticeable.

Rusty:  I should hope not!  We're a NNNVNP blog.

Taylor:  We are?  No one has ever mentioned that to me.

Micah:  Me neither.  This is the first I've heard of it.

Percy:  What does NNNVNP mean?

Rusty:  We're a No Nudity No Violence No Profanity blog.

Cyndi:  Does that mean we're boring?

Rusty:  I hope not!

Taylor:  Are we just NNNVNP or are we NNNVNPNToB?

Micah:  What?

Taylor:  No Nudity No Violence No Profanity No Tattoos or Bikers.

Cyndi:  I was under the impression we allow non-gang tattoos but not bikers because we have no parking.

Micah:  We don't have very much on this blog then, do we?

Rusty:  We have love, kindness, sibling rivalry, interviews, outtakes, uptakes, cupcakes -  Scratch that last one.  My stomach is rumbling. In short, we allow pretty much anything that doesn't violate our N blog rating.

Percy:  Excuse me, but we're supposed to be introducing our interview for today, Great Lap Warmer Buckwheat.  It can be read exclusively at Mousebreath.

Biscuit at the Bridge

Two Fridays ago, at the end of a post, we mentioned our new friend Biscuit (Safe At Last).  His Mousebreath interview posted the same day.  It was different than the others we have done. He didn't have a blog and wasn't on social media, so he wasn't promoting himself.  He was a senior cat with an interesting story.

Two weeks later, on Saturday, June 3, he left for the Bridge.

As all of us who have lost a furry can imagine, this is a painful time for his mom Leslie.  Whenever there is a loss in the community, pet bloggers support one another.   Since Leslie doesn't have a blog for Biscuit, we thought we would do this short memorial post.

Biscuit, you may not have had a lot of years in your new life with Mom Leslie, but you left a big hole in her heart when your time came to leave.  You were loved - from the moment she met you.

You can read his interview, The Story of Biscuit, on Mousebreath.

The Handsome Valentine

Rusty:  Now that we have finished our last three reviews, it looks like Friday will be our only posting day.

An Innocent Bysleeper

Merci:  This was me Wednesday afternoon between morning and past everyone's bedtime storms.  I was really soaking up some zzzzzs.

Marcus:  This is what my bed looked like when we all woke up Thursday morning.  And before you blame me, I never sleep in my crate at night.  But a certain little redhead does much of the time.

Merci:  Do you mean Rusty?  I understand an orange tabby is actually called "red".

Marcus:  No, I mean you, Merci!  You slept in my bed.  It was already duct taped together on the back and Jan just recently sewed half the top back together.

Merci:  I know where Jan keeps the duct tape.

Marcus:  It's waaaaaaaay past sewing or taping together.  You owe me a new bed!

Merci:   But I didn't do anything.  I just turned over the bedding and dug a little to make the bedding more comfortable.  It must have exploded while I was sleeping.

Marcus:  Yeah, sure.  You weren't harmed but the bed exploded all the way to the kitchen. That sounds like one of my tales.

Merci:  I'm so glad you're my brother!  You understand I was just an innocent bysleeper.

Marcus:  A "bysleeper"?

Merci:  Yes, you know, a sleeping bystander.

Taylor:  We have a Mousebreath interview with Teddy Westlife posted today.  Some of you will remember his older sisfur Huffle Mawson.

Percy:  Stop by Mousebreath to meet SuperFluff Teddy Westlife.  He used to write the Don't Bite blog, but now he is the silent partner on the Cats With Blogs Facebook page.

The Alien Rusty Virus

Rusty:  It's been a quiet day.  I hope we have a quiet night so I can catch up on my sleep.

Cyndi:  I hope the aliens have gone!  I'd sure hate to have them playing on our computer again.

Rusty:  What aliens?  Did I miss something?

Cyndi:  How could you miss that?  I could have sworn I heard Rod Serling's "Twilight Zone" music playing.  If not, it was the only noise missing.

Rusty:  I didn't hear any music and I didn't see any aliens.

Cyndi:  I didn't see any either but don't tell me you slept through last night's events.

Rusty:  I must have.  What happened?

Cyndi:  Jan was reading an email in Thunderbird on our computer when it suddenly started winking, dinging and zipping up and down , and boxes started opening and nonsense typing sped line-by-line across the page.

Rusty:  What did she do?

Cyndi:  She shut down Thunderbird.  She reopened it and it commenced doing the same thing.  She shut it down a second time.  She had just edited some pictures in Picasa and brought that back up on the desktop.

Rusty:  Was that okay?

Cyndi:  NO!  It was doing the same thing.  Scrolling really fast and dinging like crazy.  She closed that program too.

Rusty:  So everything was okay then?

Cyndi:  You know Jan.  She opened it back up and it did the same thing.  Only that time, the Thunderbird icon in the tray was pulsing a glowing orange as if it was sending Morse code.

Rusty:  Did she get a virus or did someone get control of our computer?

Cyndi:  Actually, she looked down at the keyboard.  Guess what she found?

Rusty:  What?

Cyndi:  YOU!  You had been sleeping on the desk with one paw dangling, but then, your head - and you are a big cat with a big head! - must have slowly lowered onto the keyboard until it was resting flat on a mass of keys.

Rusty:  Why didn't Jan notice that right away?

Cyndi:  Jan watches the monitor screen, not the keyboard, when she is concentrating on a task.  She's not going to let you sleep on the desk when she's working again.  You were oblivious to the chaos you created as you slept.

Rusty:  You mean I slept through all that dinging and typing?  Is why Jan so rudely pushed me off the desk?

Cyndi:  You could say that. She was sure relieved the computer survived the Alien Rusty Virus.

Merci:  Well, the cats wrote the first part of our post, so guess I can introduce the second part.  It's Friday, time for another Mousebreath cat interview.

Percy:  This week our subject is Purrseidon the Water Cat.  You will enjoy meeting him and his fur siblings Saphera and Mister M.

Taylor:  Here is a link to Purrseidon's blog.   Her human is Jeanne Foguth who writes Sci-fi and Fantasy books.

Tuesday Friday Flashback

Buddy:  Hey, Marcus, did you come up with a post for today?

Marcus:  Me?  I thought it was your turn.

Buddy:  No, I did it the other day.

Marcus:  You mean we don't have a post?

Buddy:  No, not unless anyone wants to read about how you messed up and now we don't have one.

Marcus:  It's not my fault.  Jan's been hobbling and creaking, it's been hot and humid, and I've been sticking like velcro to Jan's legs because of the t-storms we've been having.  When did I have time to think?

Buddy:  How about when you were being an annoying jerk ... I mean an annoying brother ... pestering Percy yesterday.

Marcus:  It's such fun to pester Percy.  He's so funny when he threatens me with castration.

Buddy:  I know what we can do.  We can do a Tuesday Flashback.

Marcus:  Isn't that supposed to be a Friday Flashback?

Buddy:  Not if we publish it on Tuesday.

Marcus:  Okay, it's worth a try.

Buddy:  Back in 2011, we dogs were interviewed by Coffee with a Canine. We have new friends who have never read that interview.

Marcus:  Hey, wait a minute!  I wasn't even born in 2011.

Buddy:  I know you weren't.  Merci, Angel Sam and I were, though.

Marcus:  Come to think of it, I haven't read it either.  Where did you say I can find it?

Buddy:  Coffee with a Canine

Sweet Sarah Day and Mousebreath

MARCUS:  Will someone please explain what is going on?  I am confused.  I thought we were supposed to post on a Mousebreath interview yesterday and do the Tiki cat food review today, but we reversed them and I don't understand why.  We missed today's Chewy review blog hop yesterday ... I mean, we're missing it today.

CYNDI:  Don't worry.  Everything will work out, Marcus.  We'll sign up for today's Chewy blog hop using yesterday's post and the Mousebreath interview isn't going to run away, so we will include that in today's post, too.

RUSTY:  That's right.  We switched things around because we learned today is Sweet Sarah Day and we just have to participate in that and sign up for her blog hop so she will know we care.

Graphic by Ann of Zoolatry.

MERCI:  We all know Miss Sarah from the Mona, Prissy and Angel Weenie blog.  She is active in rescue groups, puts together fun Smileboxes, and is a sweet friend to many.   She had a liver biopsy last Friday and is waiting to learn the results this Thursday.  We are all hopeful of good news.

BUDDY:  It has been hard on her and on her dogs to be living apart because of her health.  We hope they will be able to be back together soon. Today, we want to let her know we support her, pray for her and love her.

MARCUS:  Uh ... we support her?  Does that mean we have to send her the allowance we don't receive?

RUSTY:  No, that means we are united with the other bloggers to extend moral or psychological support, aid, or courage to Miss Sarah.

The blog hop is hosted at Oz the Terrier's blog.  Click on Blogville Tours and scroll down to enter.

MICAH:  We won't confuse you any more by explaining why we published the Mousebreath interview for the Board of Library Cats last Friday but are only now posting on it.  If you want a hint, we had to switch posts that day too; however, we figure we have befuddled you enough with the Chewy/Sweet Sarah Day switcheroo.

TAYLOR:  This is my first time announcing a Funny Farmer Feline interview, so please forgive me if I make a mistake.  We interviewed Toby, Simon, Jack and Bobbie Sue of the Board of Library Cats.  They also blog at Doggie & Kitty Caperz.

PERCY:  You can read their interview,The Board of Library Cats, at Mousebreath.  A severe thunderstorm moved into the area as we were finishing last night,so we writing this and we had to close down.  We would like to add that we hope you will go meet the kitties who also blog as Doggies and Kitty Caperz.

Halloween Bleeding Pumpkin FFHT

MERCI:  Have you ever heard the Halloween story of the bleeding pumpkin?

MARCUS:  No, Is it a good one?

CYNDI:  Oh, you better believe it's good.

RUSTY:  You know that Jan doesn't do Halloween decorating.  Have you ever wondered why?

MARCUS:  Yes, I have.  But I figured we can't afford to decorate.

SAM:  Actually, before your time, Jan got a big pumpkin to carve for Halloween.  She figured if other people can carve one, she could too.

MICAH:  So we all sat down to watch a spooky Halloween show on the TV while Jan sat at the desk with a large knife and carved a face on the pumpkin.

BUDDY:  Just before the last commercial, there was a frightening scream behind us.  We all turned and there was the pumpkin with wide eyes and big teeth.  Blood was gushing out it's mouth and dripping from its eyes.

PERCY:  I ran over and Jan's hand with the knife was inside the pumpkin/  Blood was spurting out of her wrist and through the pumpkin's eyes and mouth.

MARCUS:  Jan cut herself with the knife?

CYNDI:  That's what we thought too, but Jan was screaming that the pumpkin bit her.

MARCUS:  Bit her?  But pumpkins don't bite.  Er ... do they?

MERCI:  That one must.  I dialed 9-1-1 with my nose for an ambulance.   An E.M.T. said he could see what appeared to be large tooth marks in her wrist.

RUSTY:  Jan was taken away to the Emergency Room to stop the bleeding.  After a while, two police officers came and read the pumpkin its rights.

SAM:  They carried it outside, put it in the back seat of a squad car, and drove away.  We never saw it again.

MARCUS:  What about Jan?

MICAH:  Oh, yes, we saw Jan again.

BUDDY:   It was a traumatic night.   After that I never turned my back on another pumpkin. And we have never decorated for Halloween again.
