Rusty, Dr. Seuss and March Lost

Have a blessed Easter Sunday.

Cyndi: Wow! We've been missing a whole month! We were working on posts for early March when Win 10 suddenly decided to change settings and put our computer into permanent hibernation, so we're just going to combine the posts here. We're not actually back yet but hope to be soon.

Micah:  March 1st was Rusty's 14th birthday.  He's still a handsome guy and we're sure happy he is still with us.

Cyndi:  Happy belated birthday wishes from all of us, Rusty.

Rusty:  Thank you.  But have you seen my cake?  I can't find it.

Micah:  I haven't seen your cake but Jan's in the kitchen.  You should ask her - .

Rusty:  Thanks.  I'll go check.

Micah:  - if she left you any.

Marcus:
I promised to fill Sam's hats,
But I don't have his whacky knack.
I miss all these guys,
so hats I will try,
But, Sam, I'm a quack in your hat.

March 2nd was the day we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss, the author of those zany books for children.  Sam always loved any day he could wear a hat and was well-known for wearing either the wrong hat for the occasion or the wrong size.  He is dearly missed, as are the other five Funny Farmers in the graphic that have passed away over our blogging years.  (Sam, Buddy, Jenny, Cotton, Crystal & Cameron.)  We remember them with a smile on this zany day.

Percy: Our Kitty Loaf interview was scheduled for Friday, March 2nd. That was all set to self-publish so it ended up as our only March post.  If you haven't read it yet, stop by Mousebreath to meet Kitty Loaf Cats Arya and Django.

Taylor:  A month is a long time, Percy.  Do you suppose anyone remembers us?

Percy:  Jan can't remember remember Diddly Squat any more but hopefully some of our readers have a better memory than she does..

We are joining the Pet Parade hosted by Rascal and Rocco and co-hosted by Bionic Basil and Barking from the Bayou.

Be Back When We Can

Rusty:  Hey, do you remember us?  We've been missing for what feels like forever.

Micah:  We stopped by to let you know we're going to be missing for a good bit longer.

Rusty:  It's all Jan's fault!  She is under strict order to never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, NEVER visit anyone and sit under a rotating fan again!!!!!!  Especially in the winter.  But she should never sit in a draft at any time- period!

Micah:  Aside from getting a bad respiratory illness, her pain level went through the roof and she almost couldn't move her arms or turn her head for two weeks.  Trying to sleep in a chair and take care of us, even minimally, wore her out. And poor Marcus.  Loud, rambunctious, energetic Marcus had zero exercise for two full weeks.  We cats were ready to lock him in the closet and hide the key.  He is getting a few minutes of ball chasing outside the last few days

Rusty:  Mr. Doug kindly brought her things to help her get better, but we also need to thank Jan's friends Johnnie and her husband James for bringing her some food now that Jan is trying to eat again.  And Miss Suzanne, thank you so much for the Christmas smoked turkey that Jan couldn't open until New Years.

Micah:  It's freezing here and we're all hunkered down trying to get through this horrible weather, which is worse in other parts of the country.  The house is drafty and the floor is frozen.  If you enjoy camping in the winter, come visit us, you'll feel right at home.

Rusty:  Jan has been sick since Dec 21st.  We tried to get our Christmas e-card to everyone on our list and to respond to everyone who sent us either a snail card or an e-card, but we know we missed some.  Please accept our heartfelt apologies.  No oversight was intended.

Micah:  Jan has been trying to check facebook occasionally for those that are sick or have lost a furry, but we're really out of the loop, so feel free to email us to let us know of any such news.   We will be back, but we have no idea when.

Rusty:  Meanwhile, keep smiling so no one knows what you are plotting.

Buddy Issues Moratorium

We have been sitting here for the longest time trying to agree on something to write, but the words just won't come.  So we'll just dive in.

Farewell, lovely Parker Pie.  We are so glad we had an opportunity to get to know you.

Yesterday we posted on our Funny Farm Felines' interview with Parker for Mousebreath. Also yesterday, Parker posted  a farewell message with the news she would be leaving for the bridge this morning.  So with great sadness today we link to Parker's mom's post, "aeternum in corde," which means forever in my heart..

Dear Parker, you will be missed by all who knew you!  Purrs and pawhugs for your family, especially Mom Helen and Scott, the dad who saved you to a life of love.

We all realize the furry personality we meet on a blog largely reflects the personality of the human "impersonating" the furry.  Mom Helen's posts since learning of Parker's cancer several months ago have been quietly graceful, grateful and positive while enduring the pain of a long (but not long enough) good-bye to a well-loved family member..  Her eloquent posts are similar to those of the late Miss Peach's Mom Karla. We would love to meet so many of the humans behind the bloggers.  There would be such a wonderful array of personalities.  We would in particular love to meet Mom Helen and Mom Karla, in hopes some of their calmness of spirit would rub off on our Jan.

Arty Mouse of AFS&S has been missing since Monday.  Her mom was out of town for a few days and got home late last night.  She is likely out looking for Arty now.  We sure hope to hear good news soon!

Oops.  We overlooked Kudzu & Pixie yesterday and again today.  Boondocks & the Love Shack Pack lost two beloved members within a week.  Extra purrs and pawhugs to their family.

We didn't know Elliot from On A More Personal Note blog but many of you do.  We can guess the pain his family is going through and send them purrs and pawhugs also.

Years ago, Jan took a headcount after midnight and Crystal was missing.  She discovered he had squeezed under a window she had left open a "sliver," pushed out the screen and disappeared.  She grabbed a flashlight and raced outside with no idea which direction he would have gone.  She almost missed him.  He was in the middle of the back yard, as flat as possible to the ground.  He didn't move, not when she picked him up, nor for a few minutes after she put him down inside the house.  Something had terrified him.  Thankfully, he had frozen and not run away or she'd never have found him and we would have missed those wonderful remaining years with him.  So we understand how Eliot could have escaped to his death.

Now we can all use some good news.

Growl Tiger is a member of the Tabby Cat Club.  (Percy and Rusty are members.)  He has been very sick lately, but is doing so much better.  Keep up the healing, GT!

Buddy:  Now I am issuing an moratorium which must be obeyed.  There are to be no more deaths, serious illnesses, missing furries, or any bad news for a period of at least two (2) decades!  Understood?

Cotton, in Buddie's ear:   Whisper, whisper, whisper.

Buddy:  Oh, Cotton tells me that's a terrific idea, but I don't have the authority to issue such a moratorium. Would whoever does have that authority please contact me so I can borrow theirs?

Help Find Ben Manning, Update

We have just read the very sad update on Ben the Rotti's blog.

Ben Manning's body has been recovered from the River Calder. Please stop by Ben the Rotti's and leave a message of comfort for the family. It doesn't matter that you don't know them. It only matters they know you care. Ben the Rotti's family is hurting too, as they are part of the same community and a 17-year-old has lost his life.

There is a young man missing in England and so far the publicity has only been local, so we are joining other bloggers around the world to put his face and information out there.

Clicking on the photo should enlarge it. For further details, visit Ben the Rotti's blog. Ben Manning is from Ben the Rotti's area.

And then please post, tweet, Facebook, whatever means available to pass on the link to Ben the Rotti's blog post where the information is being coordinated. Someone knows what happened to him.

Pumpkins, Percy & Tigger

First, we have a fun video for you.  We didn't know cats like pumpkins but it looks like pumpkins might be to big cats what catnip is to smaller ones.

If the video doesn't play, click here.

Artemisia, Scylla, Socks & Fenris are having a giveaway on their blog. A can of Clean + Green, one of our favorite products.  For our entry we choose to write a post telling them "why you love your fur sibling that isn't your species."  Well, that's an easy one. Take it away, Percy.

Percy:  I love my canine sister Merci because she saved my life when I was a tiny kitten.  I don't know what happened to my mother and baby siblings but I ended up all alone under a bush locked behind a fence on mill property.  Merci heard my cries for help and told Jan there was a kitten in there but Jan didn't believe her.  She claims I sounded like a bird - in fact, she first named me Birdie - and she tried to get Merci to move on.  But Merci wouldn't move or stop whimpering.  And then I crawled out from under the bush.  I was Merci's first kitten rescue. And Jan changed my name to Perseverance because I persevered.

We hope you are remembering to vote daily for the WBCL GiveLitter giveaway.  It ends November 8 and the amount of litter each shelter receives will depend on the number of votes.  So bookmark this somewhere you won't forget to vote daily.  GiveLitter.com.

Yesterday Samantha and Clementine posted a photo tribute to Mr. Tigger.  He has been  missing for a year. We continue to hope someone has taken him in and one of these days he will be back home with his family.  It is so hard to have a furry disappear. There is no closure, no resolution, but always a hope mixed with fear. Wherever you are, Mr. Tigger, you are missed.

As to our ongoing water "crisis," this plumber and his helper couldn't find a leak either.  He has to put in a request for whomever/whatever to come out to mark the gas, etc lines before they can dig.  So it will evidently be another 2 days or so before they come back. Kind of feels like watching a house burn down while the fire department searches for the keys to their engine.  Nowhere near that drastic, of course.  All this just leaves us with a helpless feeling as the water rolls - well, actually we have no idea where the water is rolling.  That's the biggest problem.

Buddy's Missing Kidneys

Chance is about to lose his hoohas and when we stopped by to help him feel better about it, we got into a heated discussion. So, we'd like to share this with you and see who wins the arg -- um, discussion.

Buddy: Don't worry, Chance. I survived when my kidneys were farmed.

Merci: Buddy, how many times must I remind you the correct word is harvested. Your kidneys were harvested.

Cotton: Can't you woofies ever get it right? His kidneys weren't involved.

Buddy: Yes, they were. They're missing. See, I'll show you.

Cyndi: Buddy, don't you dare show any ladies where your, um....

Percy: Hoohas.

Cyndi: Hoohas? Go ahead, Buddy, show everyone where your kidneys used to be.

Buddy: No, I'm not going to show you anything now. My kidneys were stolen and I want them back!

Crystal: You're all scaring Chance. We're supposed to be making him feel better about losing his hoohas.

Buddy: No, not his hoohas. His kidneys! You can read Buddy is Farmed here. And then please tell my siblings they're wrong! Our kidneys are very important to us and we don't want them stolen. So, run, Chance, run!

Emil, Award and Adoptions

Emil of the Cat Realm is missing. In the area where he lives, when a cat doesn't return home overnight, it is often very bad news. But we don't want Karl, Mrs. Oz or their maid and butler to give up hope.

Sassy made this poster. Feel free to display this one which includes the link to the Cat Realm or stop by Sassy's or Cat Blogosphere to pick up a copy.

House of the mostly black cats (Hot MBC) has a very good post on Emil's disappearance. We all do what we believe to be best for our furbabies.

****************************
We received the Daily Blogger award from the Hudson Furkids. As you undoubtedly are aware, we can't always blog every day, but we do our best. And if we remember correctly, it is for those who blog at least 3 times a week. We're not going to start counting back. We're just going to say thank you to Rocky and his family.

We thought it would be fair to pass it on to one kitty and one woofie. We voted to pass this on to Daisy, the Curly Cat. And we picked the Zoo Crew 5 for the woofie award. If either one has already received it, that's okay.

*****************************
Yesterday was a good day. The local Humane Society and the animal shelter hosted a special adoption day. It turned out better than they dared hope. 11 dogs and 1 cat found a new home.

But Jan is sunburned, exhausted and grumpy today. She wants the computer back so she can work on the photos she took yesterday. We'll probably be back in a couple of days since tomorrow is Jan's regular day to take pictures at the shelter.

What's that? Why don't we just use the computer when Jan isn't home? Well.....

We've been banned from using the computer when she's not home. There was an incident. We don't really want to talk about it.

Okay, if you insist.

We are not allowed to touch the computer without supervision, ever since we accidentally blew out the speakers listening to cat-erwalling muzak with the volume turned all the way up. Buddy woof-erwalled right along with it. If he had just shut up we could have played innocent. But no, the neighbors complained about Buddy's bass baying (we know it couldn't have been the cats' vocal range), Merci's soprano and Samaritan's hearty and loud tenor. Plus the weird background music. So Jan knew. She just knew we were responsible. And we're banned.

Missing Magical Van

Sassy sent us a poster to help alert kitty and pup bloggers that there is a very serious situation in Italy. The magical flying van that carried Opus & Roscoe and their friends on so many exciting adventures is still missing.

We can't bear to consider there might not be any more adventures in the Italian boys' van. So, please, keep your camera handy and your eyes open.

Send any information or recorded sightings to Opus & Roscoe. They really need to find out who stole it and where the van is now.

Click on poster to visit Opus & Roscoe's Catnaps in Italy blog.

Morning After and Jessica

As you can see, we all had a whooping good time at Karl's blogoversary lizard BBQ yesterday. Everyone there had a blast. (Oooh, shouldn't even mention the word blast today!)

We are really, really, really hoping Jan doesn't see this picture today or she'll yell at us for making such an awful mess for Karl's butler to clean up, and we just couldn't bear the noise today. Maybe in a day or two?

Right now, we need to go find some bags of frozen peas and whatever in the freezer to use for ice bags. Then we can eat the contents. Maybe some veggies will help us recover. One thing we learned yesterday, don't eat too many BBQ'd lizards at one time.

******************
And on a somber note, Mama Jessica has been missing for 24 hours and her kitty babies need her. Click on the photo to visit her blog.

Skeezix's Scratching Post

The Funny Farm says I have to give an acceptance speech. I'm not much for speaking in public, but if I must...

I would, first of all, like to thank Skeezix for this beautiful award. I will display it proudly and treasure it always. I would like to thank Sassy of Little Productions for giving me the opportunity to participate in the CCSI production of "The Santa Caper." It was an amazing experience. I met so many nice cats and dogs and enjoyed every minute of it. I would like to thank all my castmates, the production crew and my adopted brothers and sisters of the Funny Farm.

What is it, Buddy? Stop elbowing me! Oh, thanks.

And I would like to thank Jan (who is standing behind me reading this over my shoulder) for giving me a home and feeding me a healthy diet so I was mentally and physically able to give the production my all.

Thank you all.

Percy,
Jan's Funny Farm

Here we are, late again. We intended to post about Boogie before this. We read about him on Maya & Kena's blog. In fact, that's where we picked up this poster. If you click on it, you will go to Deetz the Airedale Terror's blog where you can read more on Doogie.

Deetz's dad's is really worried about Boogie and believes he was stolen. We hope Boogie is returned/found soon.

Deetz has had other bad news recently. His friend Gizmo has cancer and isn't expected to be with him much longer. But for now, he's energetic and feeling better.

*******************
We met a new woofie today. Actually, we met several new woofies today, but this one is a Siberian Husky named Amici and he is having cluster seizures.

**********************
We have a little good news on Haggis, the missing Deerhound. He was sighted again at Albert Dr and Trillium St, Bowie, MD on February 22nd. The poster Sassy the cat made for him is on our sidebar. You can click on it to go read about him. You can also post Haggis' poster on your blog. If you don't know how to make it link to Haggis' site, email us at mercyandpercy at gmail dot com and we'll send you the code.

*********************

Churchill the cat is recovering well from his injuries, but for Bruno the woofie the news doesn't appear to be as positive. We come across news in our travels. Some of you are aware of one item but not another, so we try to remember who and where, but we're getting as bad as Jan about remembering.

*******************

And Delilah over at Dr. Tweety & the Fab 5's might have epilepsy. At least we assume that's what "eppa-leprosy" is. Or it could be "poisinon' from a azalea flowerz" that were on the kitchen table. (We love Dr. Tweety's English. He keeps us on our toes.)

***********************
Missy Blue Eyes' eye has healed and is fine. Whoopee! We're so glad.

Newsy Notes

We just stopped by to check on Churchill and found good news. He had his surgery and is recuperating. It will be a long recovery, but how wonderful to have so many bloggers caring and those who could contributing. You can read the good news here.

Missy Blue Eyes is recovering from her eye injury. We were glad to learn that too.

We were saddened to read on Maya & Kena's blog that the large tumor recently removed from Bruno's leg was cancerous and will likely return. But how wonderful that some contributed to the cost of his operation and a kind vet agreed to operate before the full amount was raised. There is so much abuse in the world, so it's nice to know there is much kindness too.

Baby has been missing for several days now. Evidently she got out into the hall and just disappeared. Most likely someone in the building is hiding/keeping her and her owners are frantic. We hope she is found soon.

Annie Is Missing Too

Sunday Update: Hooray! Mao is home! And Annie has been spotted twice. Last time she was on the porch eating, but she spooked and ran away.

Yesterday we posted about the missing Maobert. We don't know him and we never met Annie either, but we are sorry to learn Annie from Krasota Castle Cats is also missing. Their humans are very worried.

This is Annie:

And this is Mao:
We have all our paws crossed for their safe return. It's hard to walk this way, but we really want to support their families.

Mao Come Home

Please, every cat join in to support Mao's family. Mao is Skeet's big brother and he's been missing for two days.

Read about his disappearance in the Friday, January 11 post on Mao's blog. (Link is above.)

Karl of the Cat Realm made this graphic, and as he requests, "Take this picture and display it and concentrate ALL your thoughts and purrs to his safe home coming, PLEASE!!!!!"

We sure look forward to learning soon that Mao has been found unharmed or has returned on his own.

Good To Go

The entire Funny Farm is Good To Go! We have signed on as Volunteer Troopers to help find Beau. We posted about Beau the other day. If you missed it, you can read the story here.
Left to right: Merci, Samaritan and Buddy

Rusty, Percy

Crystal, Cyndi

Cotton, Cameron

We are Volunteer Troopers in Stormy's Operation Bring Beau Home (page no longer exists). If you haven't already read Beau's story, a good place to start is (Hammer, Beau's Brother blog has been closed.)

If you would like to become a Volunteer Trooper, help find Beau by posting about him. The more publicity, the faster the search. You don't need to live in Australia to help. You just never know who might read your blog.

Beau is microchipped, so proving his identity once he is located would not be hard. Although a microchip might move in the body - say, into the shoulder - it can be located and scanned.

We know Jan would be devastated if one of us was stolen. We all would. We're family.

Hammer is looking for his brother, so pass this information along and help reunite them.
