Halloween Revenge and Parties

Aha, a Halloween revenge story.  Never deny dogs their share of treats or you just might end up regretting it.  Here's Splash's Revenge.  (We love these dogs. They are such good actors.)

Music to Soothe

It's cold and we're all a bit stiff and slow today, so we're running a bit late. Since it's Sunday, we're going to post an appropriate musical video before Jan wobbles out the door.  Then we're going back to her our nice warm bed.

Oh, rats!  She's piled laundry baskets and stuff on it so we can't go back to bed.  It's all Buddy's fault cause he dug a big hole in two brand new blankets a few years ago, so now Jan doesn't want us in there unsupervised.

This is Michael Ball and the old Irish hymn Be Thou My Vision.

Halloween, Buddy and Jan

We had lots of news to post but we've forgotten most of it. There is a lot of news on the Cat Blogosphere lately. Too many illnesses and deaths - both human and feline.

We spent most of the last week unable to view Blogger headers and misc. photos from Blogger, even some Jan had taken or graphics she'd made. We posted on it the other day believing the problem was corrected, but Jan had misunderstood and unchecked something she shouldn't have. She couldn't believe our antivirus company actually told us to uncheck it and reversed it on her own, fortunately, but then we couldn't view so many photos again.

After a few days, the tech told Jan to just enter the photos she couldn't see as exceptions. Now we already had over 200 or 300 hundred blocked photos from just part of one day. So Jan calmly and coolly emailed a reply: ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!!!!

Tech Support then referred the problem to Product Support. The problem was fixed Wednesday night with a definitions update. It is so nice to see all your handsome faces again. It was hard, though, to figure out any Wordless Wednesday posts since we couldn't view the photos.

We want to remind you of Hansel's Halloween Spooktacular Contest.
Buddy posted his non-costume this morning.  And we just submitted Jan's entry.  But we need to warn you that her entry nearly made Charlie's (Old Kitty) human fall off her chair.  We're not sure if it was shock or laughter.

We'll make this a short post so you can go look around Hansel's Halloween blog.  Perhaps it will stimulate your creativity and you'll submit an entry or two yourself.  This year you must have a blog to enter.  There are several categories.  The deadline to submit your entry is noon on Halloween.  (Eastern time.)

Have fun.

Clyde Reunions and Invitation

You can imagine the sadness of a ten-year-old boy who has grown up with a cat named Clyde, and then the 11-year-old cat disappears for 12 days and the boy thinks he will never see Clyde again. This is their reunion.

If the video doesn't play, click here.

There was an earlier reunion between Clyde and his German Shepherd friend Triton. This video was taken shortly afterward.

If the video doesn't play, click here.

It appears it was a very happy day at Clyde's home.

In case you haven't heard yet, you are all invited to a party.

The Ladies of Autumn have pleasure in inviting all to a Halloween Party on Oct 31 at Castle Felinestein.  Members and guests are welcome to submit pictures or graphics of themselves, dressed or otherwise to momoandco AT gmail DOT com for inclusion in the party post.

Glassy Eye Sam Chatter

Hey, Sam here.  Do my eyes look a little glassy?  It's shock.  We just found a carbon copy of Jan online.  Well, not a look alike.  Or in the same age bracket: Jan's ancient, the other human isn't. And Jan is more likely to drop a tune on your toe than carry it. And if she had to stand in front of an audience, her mind would go blank.  But fast talking?  Oh, yeah!

don't steal your sister's food Sam don't step on Merci's feet Buddy don't pull your bed behind me and screech like I'm killing you when I move.... You get the idea.

So after living with Jan all these years, we had no problem understanding this lady's patter.  Different words, same tune.  This is Anita Renfroe preaching to her kids instead of her furries.(Does she talk to her furries like this?)

f the video doesn't play click here.

Hope you enjoyed the video. Have a blessed Sunday.

PS: The Meezers’ Grampie is getting ready to leave them and their mom is very sad! He will no longer be in pain but it will be painful for those he leaves behind. They could use lots of support. Stop by Meezer Tails.

UPDATE:  The Meezer Mom and family would appreciate your prayers, as her dad (the Meezer's Grampie) passed away this morning.

PPS:  Mac from Wizard and Angel's blog had to be helped to the bridge yesterday. If you haven't stopped by, we hope you will go by and leave a message of encouragement.

RIP Claudette and 3 Perf

Did anyone notice anything strange on our blog yesterday?  Like a missing background picture?

When we got online our background was missing.  So were a number of your blog headers and photos.  We couldn't see our background so figured Blogger must have somehow deleted it, so we deleted it from Picasa, and all Thursday we saw a white background.  Last night we finally thought to right click and we found out all the missing photos around the blogs were being blocked by our antivirus.  Evidently when we updated yesterday morning, a setting was changed and it was kind of hard to see some photos because they might harm our computer.  Say what? .

This morning we heard from the av company,  made a slight change and suddenly on our blog we were looking at a black background with big triangles and an exclamation point in the middles. (Means missing photo, we think.)  So, what did you see when you looked at our blog yesterday - a white background or a weird black one?

We were going to write the above and then just post what we'd already finished below.  But then we had some very sad news!

Posted on Facebook, "The Lord has called our dear friend Claudette Hudson home today."  Even though we knew this day was coming, reading the words was a shock.

Claudette Hudson and Rocky.

This photo was used for Claudette's 2010 Livestrong post. She's also used it for her birthday and for a FB profile photo, so we don't think she would mind us sharing it here to honor her - a Christian, a dog blogger, an animal lover, a cancer fighter for several years, and a friend to all. Even when she was unable to keep up the Hudson Furkids blog, she kept up with friends on FB and helped others as she could.

She was loving and courageous.  And she will most definitely be missed!  Rest in peace, dear Claudette.

We are teary and saddened that 3 Perf's had to be helped to the brdige last night.  He has been battling lymphoma and it was time for him to join his brothers Winton and Kokak, a mere 2 months after his family lost Kokak.  This is a very hard time for his mom!  You can visit and leave a comment here.

Most all of you already know Perfectly Parker has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in her tummy.   We were as shocked as any other when the news was posted and still can barely believe it.  We know her family is giving her lots of love and quality time.  They need lots of support.  You can visit Parker here.

And Possum's sister Pixie has been very sick too.  She has been going to the vet to get infusions.  We hope yesterday's little bit of good news will keep getting better.  You can visit her here.

We know that's a lot of bad news at one time, but that's the way this week has gone.

Tocktober and Derby

Happy Birthday, Derby!

It's Tocktober and Derby's birthday again, so we're posting one tocks photo to represent all of us in his honor.

Hmmm, who might this be.  Why, Rusty, of course!

Oh, dear, we're republishing this because some of you don't know who Derby is and we forgot to link to Derby's birthday post.

Merci Intros Heroic Liza

Hey, Merci here. We're going to have a lazy Sunday while Jan spends the afternoon catching up on things. (Boy, talk about being optimistic!) So I'm getting this ready to autopost while we snooze.

We watched this video today (Saturday - we're going to autpost, remember) and it just seemed so appropriate for a Sunday post.  It's the story of a heroic chicken and how she sacrifices herself to save her chicks.  But dry your tears, it has a happy and surprising ending.  We just know you're going to enjoy this video as much as we did.

Happy Sunday!

Fred, Elephant Imitator

Hey, Cameron here. This is my response to today's post. My ears are ringing and I'm seeing double.

But don't run away. It's a fun video.

Meet Fred the bulldog. While watching a paper towel commercial, he decides to carry on a conversation with the elephant. I can just hear the conversation.

Elephant: Hellllllp! I'm being held prisoner in a paper towel commercial.

Fred: Okay, I'm coming to saaaaave you.

Elephant: Hurry! I'm in big trouble. I had an accident in the studio and they've put out an emergency call for giant boxes of paper towels to mop it all up.

Fred: Um, moo. Moo. (As in, Sorry, Fred, but my mom will kill me if I bring you home and you're not housebroken. We're out of paper towels.)

Buddy was going to offer to rescue the elephant but Cotton convinced him our litter boxes are not big enough. So we'll just let you watch Fred converse with the elephant.

Haunted Treasure and Auction

Hey, Rusty here. I wanted to use this photo today because it reminds me there used to be sunshine. When I've run outside this week, the sun is hiding and my feet get muddy. I don't mind the mud so much because I can wipe my paws off on Jan's t-shirt when she carries me back inside. But where's the warm sun?

Oh, guess I better get to our post for the day.

We stopped by Roo's and found the Director/Producer has a new video and upcoming project.

A Haunted Treasure Hunt
is now showing at Pet Fiction Theater.  There's a video with the post.  Wonder how they did the visual lighting effects?

Keep checking Roo's Doins and Pet Fiction Theater for more details.

The cool, wet weather this week has totally done Jan in so we're being as quiet as possible - except for Buddy occasionally leading the howling choir.   She thinks we should be doing the cooking and cleaning but we draw the line at hard labor.  We're already worn out with elderly sitting ... nursing duties.

Oh, and don't forget to stop by Furriends of the CB Auction for Beau and the Royals.

Halo, the Pool Shark

Hey, Cyndi here. It's cool, windy and ready to rain again, so I feel like playing. However, this is an old photo.  You can tell because I'm playing with our kitty toy, the candy corn that Miss Peggy knitted and stuffed for us.  You might remember it before Sam ate it.  The whole thing!  Except for a tiny tatter.  And Cotton tattled on Sam.  It was a nice toy while it lasted.  We could wrestle it, bunny kick it, use it for a pillow -  **sigh**

Enough reminiscing. I have a fun video for you today. And a word of advice.

Don't be hustled by Halo, the pool shark.  He clears the table.

Trust or Insanity?

Hey, Percy here. It's about time I get another turn to post. I think the others wait till I'm in the litter room or the kitchen to grab my typing chair and do their own post.

But I'm here now and I have a neat video for you today. You might have seen this before (we had) but I think it's worth posting. Such a close bond between a human and a lioness that she allows him to handle her cubs. Still, I wouldn't advise trying this. The lioness and her cubs are feral, not pets.

If the video doesn't play, click here.

And now I have to turn the computer over to Jan who has been complaining the whole two minutes I've been working on this that she needs the computer to do some work. Well, might I suggest she buy her own computer?

Miracle and Gracie

Hey, Sam, Merci & Buddy here today.  We decided to do some detective work and track down a mean person or persons.

Merci  ** Buddy, are you sure we can walk to Massachusetts and back before dinner?  It's already kind of late in the day and Jan tires so easily.  Not to mention I'm no spring chicken any more either.**

Buddy  ** Okay, let's take the car then.  I'll drive.**

Sam  ** We wouldn't make it to Atlanta.  I vote we walk!**

Why would we want to hunt in another state?  Because we think they could use some good tracking woofies there.  Actually, we wouldn't even have to leave the state of Georgia to fill a gigantic cell full of the same type of humans..

See, a friend sent us a link to this story today and we went looking for the original.  We were pleased to find a  story and video on My Fox Boston.  We hate stories like this one but we are glad to find a happy outcome for the dogs.

Miracle is well-named. She is a one-year-old pit bull mix that was abandoned in an apartment with no food or water for nearly two months. Her leap for food and safety last Friday broke her hip and hind leg but her timing was good and a policeman pulling over to the curb saw her jump and called Animal Control.  Miracle was taken to a vet and had surgery on her leg.

When an Animal Control officer went into the apartment for the second time (on Monday,), a four-month-old puppy was found in shock, barely hanging onto life. They named her Gracie and although she spent some time in ICU, she is recovering.

Both dogs will be put up for adoption after they recover.  We thought we would join the hunt for the person or persons who abandoned these sweet dogs.  We're not too good with paperwork but you wouldn't want to be a criminal with us three sniffer dogs on your scent!

Don't be afraid to view the video.  Miracle is obviously a happy girl despite everything that's happened to her, and she's doing well enough she was able to go to the TV station for the interview.

This case is not being ignored or taken lightly.

""This constitutes felony cruelty against an innocent animal,' said Lt. Alan Borgal, director of the Center for Animal Protection at the Animal Rescue League of Boston. 'We are counting on the public to step forward with information to help bring the person or persons responsible to justice.'

"Anyone with information is urged to call New Bedford Animal Control Officer Emmanuel Maciel at 508-991- 6366."

The Animal Rescue League of Boston could use some help with vet expenses, if anyone should care to donate. You can read the entire article here.  There is also a very short second video in the upper left of the page.

Teamwork

Hey, Cameron here. I have a great example of animal teamwork to show you today. Human kids aren't the only species that get themselves into dangerous situations and need to be rescued. In this instance a group of female elephants save a baby elephant from drowning.

Some of you know Sheldon the Cat. We don't know whether you're aware his family - Sheldon, Pika the kitty, and humans Cathy and Robert - started a new blog called Cuddle Like Crazy. Stop by and visit.

Tree Climbing Goats of Morocco

We've had this video ready to post for a while and we're finally getting around to it.  It's on the tree climbing goats of Morocco.  Yep, you read that correctly.  Tree climbing goats.  What a sight!

If the video doesn't play, click here.

The other day we posted on how to make it easier for others to leave a comment on your Blogger blog. We suggested making your comments open in a popup box. This works for most, but we've had a couple of comments that some bloggers have made this change and there is still a problem.

So we're going to add this from The Real Blogger Status blog regarding the disappearance of comments in relation to 3rd party cookies.

And this one on excessive filtering of web content which causes another problem.

Overly aggressive security and blocked authentication cookie.

The need for authentication cookie to make your Blogger experience less frustrating and more fruitful.

And Blog Owners Unable To Stay Logged In, To Edit Or Post To Their Blogs.

All of these links are from The Real Blogger Status blog. This is a very good resource for learning about Blogger blog problems and solutions. Sometimes you can find the answer without having to post your problem on a Blogger help forum. You can search their site from the sidebar to find helpful information.

As far as we know the problems have been for those using Internet Explorer and Firefox and Chrome have not been having a problem using any of the 3 comment forms. We're not techies, but we've come across so many frustrated bloggers who can't comment on some blogs that we're just trying to point out some help topics.

We hope those experiencing comment problems can find the solutions they need. Are you or your readers using IE and experiencing problems with a particular comment form? Are you or your readers using a browser other than IE (Firefox, Chrome, Opera) and experiencing problems?

Visiting other blogs is no fun when frustrated. We wish you all a happy blog commenting experience.

Cotton on Comments and Kodiak

Hey, this is Cotton. For a while I thought you'd have to take my word for it since Blogger wouldn't post my picture. And suddenly it posted my photo three times (yes, three, but better than the 28 or whatever we had to delete one day).

Anyway, I have some news and a request for those who use Blogger and some sad news of a friend.

After all the work Milo and Alfie did to organize Livestrong Day among us furry bloggers, they were frustrated to the max yesterday trying to leave comments on blogs to thank others for participating.  They finally had to give up.

So yesterday we put a message directly above our posts and since it will come down eventually, we're going to put the information in this post too.  We are not having a problem leaving comments, but many are.  So, please, if your Blogger blog is not using popup comments, we implore you to change your comment form.

That's it, you're done.  And many a blogger will thank you!

We were stunned to learn about the handsome Kodiak of the Thundering Herd yesterday.  He had to be helped to the bridge Sunday.  No one ever expects to have a dog collapse while away from home on vacation, but that's what happened while Kodiak was walking on the beach Friday.  Suddenly he couldn't walk and had to be carried.  He was a Sibe (Siberian Husky), big and heavy to pick up.  He was to a vet as fast as they could get him to one.

It's a very sad story and you can read about it on The Thundering Herd blog, as well as leave a word of comfort.

And hug your furry (furries) today.  There is no guarantee we'll still have them tomorrow.

Livestrong Day 2011

Hey, Sam here. Today we are here to honor those who have fought or are fighting cancer. Over the years we have known many who have been touched by this disease, whether human or furry. Some have won. Some have put up a long, hard fight but lost the battle.

We post our blog header here because it will be replaced in a few days with the autumn header, but we don't want to forget why we created it.  Cancer doesn't just affect the life of the patient, but family and friends also.

Zoolatry's Poppy Vic and Claudette of The Hudson Furkids are two humans we know are currently undergoing cancer treatment.

We have sometimes felt overwhelmed by the sheer number of people we are aware of who are suffering with some form of cancer. And each year we lose a large number of blogging furry friends to lymphoma or another type of this illness.

We post this in memory of all those we have lost and in honor of all those currently fighting to win.

We want to thank Milo & Alfie, Life from a Cat's Perspective, and Zoolatry for their time and patience in organizing cat and dog posts and this lovely slideshow for today.

(To turn on the music, move your cursor over the bottom of the slideshow, then click on the sound button, the one with the red slash through it.)

If you want to post the slide show, click on the link above. It is extra large so you might want to change the size to fit your blog post. We changed the width to 440 and the height to 400. Be sure to change it in both (2) places in the code.

To view the slideshow full screen, press the icon in the lower right corner and then press the ESC key (upper left on your keyboard) to return to your regular screen.

And don't forget the "official" furry blog We Livestrong Today.
