The Chicken Bribe

Buddy:  Seriously, Jan, you went out for Mexican and this is what we get to eat?  No doggy bag?

Merci:  Not even a shred of chicken from the chimichanga?

Jan:  How do you know I had a chicken chimichanga at a Mexican restaurant?

Buddy:  Oh, come on!  You downloaded the evidence from your camera when you came home.  You're wearing the restaurant's birthday sombrero in the photos with your friends. (Not sure they'd want their pictures posted.)

Merci:  And a chimichanga is your favorite Mexican meal.  I hope you had better manners than you had last time and didn't eat another meal by mistake.  (Quite An Impression)

Jan:  Okay, if you have to know, the meal was delicious, the company was superb and there wasn't a bite of chicken left to bring you.

Merci:  There never is.

Buddy:  I bet our friend Loulou's mama would share her chicken.

Jan:  Speaking of Loulou, it was such fun yesterday to find Loulou wrote a post titled Happy Jan Day.  And with a birthday cake!

Buddy:  Did you notice there were no candles?  She must have been afraid she'd burn down the blog if she added candles.

Merci:  Yes, 314 candles on a cake would be a bit much.  But Loulou is so level-headed, she would probably just use one candle for each century.

Jan:  I'm standing right here.  I can hear what you're saying.  Do you have to keep telling everybody I'm 314 years old?

Merci:  Are you going to bring us some chicken next time you eat Mexican?

Jan:  How about if I cook you some chicken today?

Buddy:  Then we'll tell everyone the truth.  You're only .... mmmmff mmmmff.

Thank you, Loulou, for the surprise post yesterday.  And thanks to all who left a FB or JFF birthday comment.

Quite An Impression

Percy:  What are you doing in your Private Dining Car, Marcus?  As soon as Jan served your breakfast, you picked up your bowl and left the kitchen.

Marcus:  I heard Jan made quite an impression Sunday and I'm not sure she can be trusted around food now.

Percy:  Oh, it's about time Jan made a good impression on someone.

Marcus:  I said she made quite an impression.  The word good was not mentioned.

Percy:  Uh-oh, what did she do this time?

Marcus:  After church on Sunday, she went to lunch with Mr. M (Mr. Minister), Mrs. M, their three young children and Mr. MD.

Percy:  They took along a doctor?  Where did they eat?

Marcus:  No, not a doctor.  Mr. MD is Mr. Minister's Dad.

Percy:  Oh.  So how did Jan make an impression?

Marcus:  She ate Mr. M's lunch!

Percy:  She what?

Marcus:  She was halfway through Mr. M's lunch before the waitress stopped by to find out who hadn't gotten their food - their chicken chimichanga.

Percy: That's Jan's favorite Mexican meal.  A chicken chimichanga with salad, rice and beans.  With lots of (mild) hot sauce poured over it.  She must have enjoyed that.

Marcus:  Actually, she was disappointed.  No beans, but lots of rice.  And the taste just wasn't up to the usual standard.  She was thinking she wouldn't order one of those again.

Percy:  But if she wasn't eating a chicken chimichanga, what was she eating?

Marcus:  A shrimp chimichanga.

Percy:  Oh.  So Mr. M got her chicken meal?

Marcus:  No.  The waitress took the half eaten shrimp plate and swapped it for the chicken one.  Jan enjoyed every bite of that meal.

Percy:  Did Mr. M ever get anything to eat?

Marcus:  Yes, he did get a fresh shrimp chimichanga plate.

Percy:  So everything ended well.  That doesn't explain why you brought your bowl in the living room to eat in your PDC.

Marcus:  You don't really think I'd trust Jan around my food after hearing that story, do you?

Percy:  A good point.  I think I'll go guard ... er, nap by the kitty kibble.

The Box Line

Micah:  Oh, look what I found.  A box of food just waiting by the window for someone to nap on it.

Buddy:  Jan is going to be very unhappy with you.  Mr. Bill sent her that box of food and she hasn't had a chance to empty it yet.

Micah:  That's okay.  I'm not as particular about my boxes being empty as some cats are.

Buddy:  Well, Jan might be particular about you sleeping there.  You're denting the food boxes.

Micah:  I think they're denting me too.  I'd really rather not have box corners poking me, but if I stay here and look uncomfortable, perhaps Jan will empty the big box faster.

Buddy:  You're a bit late.  April Fool's Day was Saturday.

Micah:  I'm not fooling.

Buddy:  If you really want to sleep in the box, I'd go borrow Marcus's Great Swampi plopped down turban (Great Swami Marcus 6)  and use it as a cushion on top of the food.

Micah:  That's a good suggestion.  I think Marcus left it on top of his crate.  Would you mind bringing it to me?

Buddy:  Why don't you go get it yourself?

Micah:  If I move, I'll lose my place in the box line.

Buddy:  *looks around*  What box line?

Micah:  The one the other cats will form as soon as I move.

Buddy:  The box has been sitting there for a week.  There hasn't been any box line.

Micah:  There will be now that I've broken it in.  Rusty will want to sleep with his head hanging off the top.  Cyndi and Taylor will want to nest between the tuna cans.  And Percy will want to spray it to cover my scent.

Buddy:  *sigh*  Okay, I'll go borrow Marcus's turban for you.

Micah:  Thanks.  And since you'll be passing the treat bag, could you bring that too?

On a serious note, we're thankful Monday wasn't as bad here as predicted. This is what we it looked like in the distance when the weather radio started squawking and the emergency sirens sounded around 12:30 pm.  We had a t-storm, hail and a downpour where we are.

And Wednesday's more severe weather mostly by-passed us, for which we are extremely grateful! A tornado watch most of the day and another round of storms due in about an hour (writing this Wed. evening), but we're doing fine - so far.

We know many of you were included in the severe weather warning area and hope all of you are okay!

The Chicken Caper

Marcus:  I had nothing to do with this.  NOTHING!  I am totally innocent.

Taylor:  What didn't you do this time?

Marcus:  Jan set the package of chicken on the kitchen table and went to answer the phone.  When she came back, the package had holes in it, most noticeably a huge hole.

Taylor:  So why are you hollering your innocence?

Marcus:  Because I get blamed for everything around here and I didn't do this.

Taylor:  Of course you didn't.  We all know who did.

Marcus:  You mean Jan put those claw holes in there and ripped a hole in the package?

Taylor:  No.  Jan found the ripped package, then put it back down to go let you and Buddy outside.  When she came back, she found a piece of chicken missing.  You weren't even in the room at the time.

Marcus:  Then who did?

Taylor:  Micah.   You know he steals anything edible, hot or cold, cooked or raw.

Marcus:  So I'm not in trouble for this?

Taylor:  Of course not.

Marcus:  What a relief!   And I hope Jan doesn't think I stole the cookie off her plate while she was away from the computer.

Taylor:  Why would she think that?

Marcus:  Oh, I don't know.  Perhaps because -

Taylor:  Because you stole it!

Marcus:  Well, maybe.  But I didn't have anything to do with the chicken!

Micah is Dying of Hunger

Micah:  Where is Jan?  She's late again.  She is never on time.  She's always late feeding us.  We could die of thirst and starve to death while she is off gallivanting around having a fun time.  We all need to get together and give her a good dressing down!

Well, it's about time you finally showed up again!  There's no kibble in the dish or water in the bowl.  I've been waiting  hours for you to return home and refill them.. I could have had kidney failure from dehydration or starved to death from lack of food.  You need to think of someone besides yourself once in a while!

Jan:  What?  I just walked around the house to toss a bag in the trashcan.

Micah:   Okay, I'll forgive you this time, but make sure this doesn't happen again!

Yodeling Traffic Cop

Marcus: Hurry up, Jan, hurry up!

Micah:  Stop getting in Jan's way and you'll get your breakfast quicker.

Marcus:  Hurry up, Jan!  Cyndi, don't you even look at the dog bowls.

Micah:  Look, this is what Jan sees at her elbow while she prepares your food.  How is she supposed to work?

Marcus:  Get a move on, Jan!  Percy's eying my bowl.

Micah:  Put a lid on it, Marcus.  You sound like a yodeling traffic cop yelling at us cats.

Marcus:  Faster, Jan , fas -   Wait, I sound like a what?

Cyndi:  Thank you, Micah.  I have never been able to put a paw on what to call Marcus's meal preparation hysteria.

Marcus:  You don't know what a yodeling traffic cop sounds like.

Micah:  Want to bet?

Despite Marcus screaming at us in a high falsetto before every meal, we're grateful to have food, so we're joining Pepi Smart Dog for today's Thankful Thursday blog hop.

Modern Miss Muffet

Marcus -

I know that yesterday was officially June Tattle on Jan Day, but I just have to add my two kibble worth to the tattle.

No, it's not revenge because Jan put me in my Private Dining Car to eat my dinner.  I actually LOVE my PDC.

Do you remember the nursery rhyme of Little Miss Muffet from Mother Goose?
Little Miss Muffet, sat on a tuffet,
Eating her curds and whey;
Along came a spider, who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Muffet away.

Jan is terrified of bugs.  A spider is a bug.  (In case you don't believe it's a bug, click here.)

Saturday night Jan sat down in front of the tv to eat her dinner.  She picked up her fork and -

public domain spider photo

A spider rappelled from the ceiling and plopped onto her food.  No, not the spider in the picture.  We never met him.  Hers was a very small spider.

Jan almost threw the plate across the room.  But instead - since she only has four plates - with rapid reflexes, she used her fork to toss food across the room.  Not just any food.  Messy food.  Potatoes au gratin to be exact.  On the carpet.

Oh, did she regret that!  She had to clean it up.

The next time Jan wants to throw food, she should make sure it's cool enough for me to eat.  I would have helped her clean it up but, after all, I didn't make the mess.  This time.

Taylor No Sleeves

BUDDY:  Hey, I hear you put one over on Jan recently, Taylor.  What happened?

TAYLOR:  Nothing special.  I ran after her first thing the other morning and surprised her when I jumped in her lap and gave her purrs, head bonks and lots of attention.  She ate it up.

BUDDY:  That's it?

TAYLOR:  No, she suddenly put me down and said, "I bet you're just making a fuss because your food dish is empty."

BUDDY:  Was it?

TAYLOR:  Not even a crumb.  I did the same thing the next morning and she did a repeat - put me down and said the dish must be empty.

BUDDY:  So she filled it again?

TAYLOR:  No, the food dish was full and Percy was snacking before breakfast.

BUDDY:  Way to go, kid. Never let the human know what you have up your sleeve.

TAYLOR:  But I don't wear sleeves.

BUDDY:  It's a figure of speech, kid.

TAYLOR:  I've been watching you guys and trying to learn to imitate you.  I have to admit it is fun to confuse Jan.

BUDDY:  *pats Taylor's head with a paw*  Congratulations, kid, you have learned that lesson well.

Sarcastic Sharing

RUSTY:  Jan is upset with you, Micah.

MICAH:  I can't imagine why.

RUSTY:  The usual.

MICAH:  You mean I stole something again?

RUSTY:  Yep!

MICAH:  But Jan should know better than to leave food lying around.  Even for a second.

MERCI:  You ate half her sausage Tuesday.  Before she had a chance to turn on the burner.

RUSTY:  You are a lightning thief.  Have to give you credit for that.

MERCI:  You stole that turkey neck while Jan answered the phone.  Too bad she caught you running away with it.

RUSTY:  And you stole it again when she popped out of the kitchen.

MICAH:  Ate half of it, too, before she remembered to cook it.

MERCI:  What's left of it is cooling on the stove.  Along with some turkey innards.

RUSTY:  It was nice of you to leave half for the rest of us Funny Farmers to share.

MICAH:  I thought so too.  Have to share with my fur siblings.

MERCI:   Micah, he was being sarcastic

RUSTY:  I guess I know what one of us is thankful for this Thursday.

MICAH:  Yes, I'm very thankful for a *burp* full tummy.

Shady Oak Funny Farm

CYNDI:  Today we're going to tell you why Marcus loves to be served meals in his private dining car.

MICAH:  You might remember this photo of Marcus waiting for the word to eat his breakfast.

MERCI:  He guards his food like it's going to disappear if he blinks.  No one is allowed near it.

BUDDY::  Marcus can be been food aggressive, so he eats in his private dining car when Jan has to take pictures of us dogs with food for a review.

PERCY:  Now Marcus is asking Jan to allow him to be served all his meals in his private dining car.  Why?

TAYLOR:  Because Marcus has to be in the middle of everything.  If there's a fight, Marcus joins.  If there's a barkfest, Marcus joins.  If the back door is opened so one of the other dogs can go outside, Marcus shoves everyone aside (or down the steps) to bolt out the door.

RUSTY:  Buddy is a hound.  He likes to yell a lot.  Now that he's older, he likes to yell just for the pleasure.  When he yells, Marcus races to yell back or to yell at whatever Buddy is yelling at.  It can get extremely noisy in here, even in the middle of the night.

CYNDI:  Buddy also likes to eat.  For reason unknown, Marcus the food scraper has become Marcus the food tortoise.  He guards his bowl and takes his time.

MERCI:  Yesterday morning was one of those times Marcus growled as he ate.  There was no one anywhere near him but he munched and growled through the beginning of breakfast.

MICAH:  That might have something to do with what has been going on around here lately.

RUSTY:  Buddy recently put on his thinking cap and devised a way to eat one and a half dinners each day.  He cleans his bowl and leaves the room.  Shortly, he will start yelling at the top of his lungs.  Marcus races out of the room to join whatever is going on.

TAYLOR:  Buddy and Marcus pass each other in the kitchen doorway.   Marcus races around yelling, finds nothing is going on and returns to the kitchen to find Buddy licking his bowl clean.

BUDDY:  Now you would think Marcus would learn but he keeps falling for that.   The only time there is a confrontation is when I get ahead of myself and pass him at the table instead of in the doorway.  He starts a fight, Jan yells at both of us, and I go polish off his meal while Marcus watches.

MARCUS:  And now, if you didn't know before this, you know why they live on the Funny Farm instead of someplace named Shady Oak or something peaceful..

PERCY:  You mean why we live on the Funny Farm, Marcus.  You're just as loony as the rest of us.  That's why we love you.

MARCUS:  Well, I got the best of Buddy last night. He tried that trick again but he was too late.  My bowl was empty.

Round the Bend

MERCI::  I have to congratulate you, Micah.  You get more treats than any of us around here.

MICAH:  Yes, these fishy flakes are yummy!

MERCI: So why do you keep stealing Jan's food?  You've stolen chicken, cheese, half a sandwich, and I can't remember what all, and now, when she wants to scramble eggs, you've been stealing her breakfast.

MICAH:  It's a game.  Jan runs off to do something and I gobble up one of the raw eggs.  It's fun to watch her return and stare at the bowl, trying to remember whether she had cracked one egg or two.

MERCI: You're going to convince her she's gone round the bend if you keep that up.

MICAH:  Round the bend.  Is that where she buys the eggs?

MERCI:  No, that means she'll think she's losing more marbles.

MICAH:  Well, just as long as she doesn't lose them in my morning egg bowl.

You Thought Wrong!

RUSTY:  We have had an interesting week. Jan says she wants a do-over.  Can she get one?

MICAH:  I don't think so, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

BUDDY:  First, on Saturday she set the clocks ahead instead of back and had to reset them.  (Daylight Savings Baby Goats)

MERCI:  Then the phone went wonky with crossed wires and strange things happened - really strange!  (Dona Nobis Pacem)

PERCY:  And, of course, Marcus escaped serious injury when he tried to eat an empty cat food can when Jan popped outside for a "minute". (Gastrointestinal Fortitude of a Goat)

CYNDI:  And it's been raining off and on for days, so we've all been cooped up with supersonic Marcus.  (Still Raring To Go)

MARCUS:  You're making fun of me again, aren't you?  Well, I'm not the only one who has been in trouble this week!

SAM:  You're right, Marcus.  One evening Jan started to prepare dinner and decided to make a quick phone call.  When she returned to the kitchen she found this.

CYNDI:  Yes, someone opened the package of ground chuck and helped himself.  Left crumbs around the stove.

RUSTY:  He didn't even try to hide.  Just nonchalantly laid on the top of the stove to digest his "dinner".

MICAH:  Well, it was laying there in plain sight.  I thought it was intended for me.

BUDDY:  But as Jan said in a highly audible tone, you thought wrong!

PERCY:  We have only had one interview subject in several weeks, so it appears there has been a loss of interest in the Mousebreath interviews.  But we sure enjoyed being interviewed for Bionic Basil's blog recently.

Gastrointestinal Fortitude of A Goat

CYNDI:  Can anyone guess what this is?

MERCI:  I hope it isn't a new bowl for any of us furries.

SAM:  It should be Marcus's new bowl.  He created it.

MICAH:  He did?  I didn't know he had any talent.

BUDDY:  He doesn't.  He doesn't have any brains either.  He could have cut his mouth and had to be rushed to the vet.

RUSTY:  True.  Those edges are sharp.  Jan can hardly believe Marcus isn't injured.

PERCY:  Guess the "devil dog", as one of Jan's friends calls Marcus, has a guardian angel.

CYNDI:  Jan fed the dogs and started to mix our breakfast in one bowl yesterday.  Then she saw Stanley, his dog Moses, a woman and a strange dog in the street.

PERCY:  Jan walked outside to see what was going on.  She took the bowl and spoon with her so the cat food wouldn't disappear while she was gone.

MERCI:  The dog was following Stanley and Moses.  He had gotten out of his yard and the woman was driving around looking for him. She caught him and left.

RUSTY:  Jan walked to the end of the porch to talk to Stanley while Moses walked around to the steps so he could go stand beside Jan and look up at her with his handsome face and pleading eyes.

MICAH:  He really wanted that bowl of cat food and didn't want to leave without it.  So Jan walked down the steps and across the lawn, let him lick the spoon, and sent him off to breakfast with Stanley.

BUDDY:  She came back inside to find the empty cat food can in the living room.  She is very upset with Marcus for stealing it from off the kitchen table.

MARCUS:  I don't understand why.  She lets me lick the dog food bowls clean when she makes our food.  Or she used to.  Wonder why she stopped?

SAM:  Because one day you licked it clean before breakfast and then ate the bowl after breakfast.

MARCUS:  But it was good.  And I didn't get cut.

SAM:  It was cardboard and the inside was coated with plastic!   You evidently have the gastrointestinal fortitude of a goat!

MARCUS: Oh, wow!  Just think of all the inedibles I can ediblize.

BUDDY:  NO!  Food containers are not for edibilizing ... I mean, for eating.  Edibilize is not a word.

MARCUS:  Okay, so I am not supposed to eat cans and cardboard or plastic.  What kind of a diet is that?

PERCY:  A safe one.

The Chicken is Swimming

PERCY:  We had a bit of a ruckus here Sunday evening.  It went something like this.

CYNDI: *racing from the kitchen to the bedroom*  Run for your life, the chicken is swimming!

BUDDY:  What on earth are you screaming about, Cyndi?  We don't even have a chicken.

CYNDI:  Yes, we do.  Jan just tried to kill me with it.

RUSTY:  Calm down and help us understand.  If we don't have a chicken, how did Jan try to kill you with one?

MERCI:  Go get a sip of water, Cyndi, and start from the beginning.

CYNDI:   No, no water.  That's how it began.  I was getting a drink from the big bowl beside the stove in the kitchen.

PERCY:  Oh, good, she's somewhat rational.  The stove is in the kitchen.  Is that where the chicken was swimming, in the big water bowl?

CYNDI:  No!  It was in the big pot on the stove.  Jan was cooking it.

MICAH:  Jan was cooking the chicken while it was swimming in the pot?

CYNDI:  No, Jan was lifting the chicken out of the pot to drain it and move it to a big bowl.  But suddenly it jumped back into the pot and caused a giant tidal wave which showered down on me and ... and ....  How would you like it if a chicken threw hot broth at you?

BUDDY:  So you were burned by a swimming chicken?

CYNDI:  Well, no, not burned.  *Licks her fur*  Hey, this tastes pretty good.  I guess my thick coat protected me.

MERCI:  I just checked on Jan.  The chicken didn't jump back into the pot.  It was well-cooked and it fell apart when she lifted it.

PERCY:  She got a bad burn on her wrist when the tidal wave hit her but she smeared coconut oil and tea tree oil over it and it's okay.

RUSTY:  Where are Sam and Marcus?  Did they go into hiding?

MICAH:  No, they ran into the kitchen and cleaned up the pieces of hot chicken that landed on the floor.

MARCUS:  I was drinking water like mad so Jan thought we burned our tongues.  Then she noticed the chicken fat floating in the water bowl and took it away from me.

MERCI:  Hey, guys, better stay out of the kitchen.  Jan just made another mess.

SAM:  Does she need another clean up crew?  I'll volunteer.

MARCUS:  No, this time she was pouring what was left of the broth into a big bowl but she managed to pour half of that over the stove.

SAM:  Uh-oh, we better stay out of her way if she has to clean up another mess.

PERCY:  Yes, it went everywhere on the stove and down the stove.  She's taking things apart to re-light one of the pilot lights. I think we should make ourselves scarce for a while.

RUSTY:  I think she should stay out of the kitchen.  Except to feed us, of course.

BUDDY:  I hope Jan will give us some broth in our food.  Merci and I missed the clean up party.

CYNDI:  I'm scarred for life.  I don't think I'll ever be able to eat chicken again.

Calling Perry Mason

SAM:  Uh-oh, some kitty is in trouble.

MARCUS:  Some kitty?  You mean it's not me in trouble this time?

RUSTY:  No, Marcus, not this time!

BUDDY:  The other day Jan went to the store and bought some hamburger.  When she got home the phone rang, so she set the bag down on the washing machine.

CAMERON:  By the time she got off the phone, she had forgotten about it.

MERCI:  When she remembered and went back to put it in the fridge, this is what she found.

PERCY:  She thinks I did it.  Why would she think it was me?

CYNDI:  Probably because there was a small hole in the plastic bag and a big hole in the package - without a trace of the missing plastic.

MICAH:  And we all know you like to eat plastic, Percy, so you are the most logical suspect.

PERCY:  Yes, but you hang out a lot in the kitchen and you like meat, Micah.  Why aren't you on the suspected criminal list?

MICAH:  Because you're the perfect suspect, Percy, and I'm not known for a plastic appetite.

PERCY:  Well, just because you haven't been known for eating plastic, doesn't mean you wouldn't.

SAM:  Have either of you considered the other could be innocent?

MICAH and PERCY:  NO!

RUSTY:  I would definitely point a paw at Marcus, except he would have swiped the bag, eaten the packaging, and left no evidence.  Not a trace, except possibly the grocery bag.

MARCUS:  *wipes brow with paw* What a relief!  I've been proven innocent.  Percy and Micah, do you need an attorney?  Would you like for me to call one for you?

PERCY and MICAH:  Yes, get me Perry Mason!

A Thief and Pig

Rusty:  Marcus is in big time trouble!  He was busted stealing our breakfast Sunday.

Add caption

Buddy:  For once it isn't me that's in trouble over food.

Sam:  Or me.  Jan is a bit upset with me for tossing the big water bowl around and soaking the wood floor and carpet just as she was leaving for church yesterday, but that was an accident.  My tag caught the underside of the bowl and it scared me when I tried to walk away.

Cameron:  So that's who made the wet mess in the living room.  Glad I missed that.

Merci:  At least you missed the heater.  You'd be wearing the Guilty Hat too if you had doused the pilot light after Jan finally turned on the heat.

Marcus:  Hey, why do I get blamed for everything?  How do you know it wasn't Merci who ate your food, guys?

Cyndi:  Don't try to shift the blame.  Merci is too short to reach the table.  And Jan caught you red-pawed!

Marcus:  It wasn't me.  It must have been my doppelgänger.

Micah:  You don't have a dapple hanger or whatever you said.  You're so bad none would want to be associated with you.

Percy:  Tell the truth, Marcus.  Jan mixes our canned food and goodies all in one bowl.  She hit the wrong buttons on the microwave and boiled the water she was going to add.  While it cooled, she left the room for a minute to find something and when she returned your front paws were on the table and you were licking your chops.

Rusty:  Our bowl of our food was empty.  You ate your own breakfast and the breakfast of 5 cats.

Cameron:  I was on top of the fridge, so I'm a witness.  You're a thief and a pig, Marcus! You deserve to wear the Guilty Hat of shame.

Buddy:  *drops a paw on Marcus' shoulder*  Marcus, Sam and I have taught you well.  But don't ever forget you can steal food anywhere and anytime ... unless it's in Sam's or my bowl.

Cats Write Dog Food Review

Percy:  Hey, what's this?  It's something new for breakfast.

Rusty:  I don't know, but how come you were served first?  I'm the biggest.  I should go first.

Percy:  I was the closest to the food table.

Rusty:  This is pretty good.  I think it's the new food we're supposed to taste test.

Micah:  Yes, it's the Merrick Holiday grain free canned food..

Cyndi:  Sure is good.  I wouldn't mind having this every morning.

Micah:  Yes, tasty, very tasty.  I'm glad Jan volunteered us to try this.

Cameron:  Well, we've been eating this new food for several days now.  I wish they had sent more for us to taste test.

Rusty:  Yes, I don't even mind eating it cold and you all know how much I hate food after it's been refrigerated.

Cyndi:  I wonder what's in it that makes it so tasty.

Cameron:  The first one said "Forever Home" on the can.  Let's see, it's got beef, chicken, yukon gold potatoes, red delicious apples and peas with added vitamins and minerals.

Micah:  The "Homecoming Holiday" is  chicken, sweet potatoes, peas and butternut squash in gravy.  I love gravy.

Percy:  "Venison Holiday Stew" has venison, red jacket new potatoes, carrots, zucchini, peas and red delicious apple.

Cyndi:  Wait a minute!  Hounds and pups?  Vegetables? This is dog food!  We've been eating dog food.

Cameron:  No, it's not.  It can't be.  Jan is feeding it to us.  We're cats.

Percy:  Well, you know Jan has been a bit stressed and forgetful lately.  It's just possible she got her eyes crossed again.

Cyndi:  I think you mean she got her wires crossed again.

Rusty:  Do you think we should tell her she's feeding us the dogs' food?

Micah:  She's going to be embarrassed if she finds out.  Not that this will hurt us.  We've also been eating cat kibble, so the dog food hasn't been our sole diet lately.

Cyndi:  I wonder if this will be a first - cats writing a dog food review.

Percy:  Well, we have been fortunate and feasted well for a few days. Shall we cats rate the Merrick Holiday grain free dog food A+?

Cameron:  Good idea.  Now which one of you wants to tell Jan she's been feeding us dog food?

Rusty:  Oh, and let's not mention this to the dogs.

Whisker Licking Good

Cyndi:  Mmmmfff.  flob, doo, pupper -  Oh, sorry.  I'm not supposed to talk with my mouth full.  I'm just taste testing some food.

Rusty:  *sniff, sniff*  Yep, smells good enough to eat.  I think I'll chow down and enjoy my breakfast.

Percy:  The food we are tasting is B.F.F. (best feline friend) grain free Tuna & Chicken Charm Me, which is wild caught and dolphin safe.  It comes in a 3.0 oz (85g) pouches.

Micah:  Rusty, mmmmmfff, get your butt out of my shot. I'm trying to look handsome and eat without floof sticking to my nose.

Rusty:  Don't complain to me.  Complain to Jan.  She's the one who handed out the bowls.  This is where she put me.

Cameron:  Ha!  I had the good sense to be on top of the fridge for breakfast.  I don't have to worry about any cat's butt in my shot.

Percy:  In case the food in the dishes has looked a tad green, it's not the cat food.  The morning Jan took the photos, she forgot what she was doing and added a little Spirulina and water as she usually does.  Spirulina is green.

Cameron: Hello, peons!  Were you a bit crowded down there?  Plenty of room up here.  I think I'll just sit here and enjoy an after breakfast bath.

Percy:  This food is supposed to be low fat, grain free and high moisture (even without Jan adding water).  It contains almost no carbohydrates.

Cyndi:  BFF is produced in a facility that also produces food for people. The factory operates at international human food processing standards.

Rusty:  The main ingredient is a red meat or dark meat from tuna, primarily skipjack or bonito.

Micah:  Best Friends Foods is located in the US but is processed in Thailand.

Cameron:  We searched and found a few good brands of pet food are processed in Thailand under strict regulation.

We all liked the b.f.f. grain free cat food in a pouch. Jan even refrigerated half a pack to see if Rusty would eat it.  He won't always eat food out of the fridge.

Chewy.com provided us with the samples to taste test.  We were not paid and any opinions are our own.

Crumbs

Buddy:  Uh-oh, you kitties better watch out.  Jan's on the warpath!

Percy:  Why?  We didn't do anything wrong.

Merci:  Jan says you ate her toast before she had a chance to toast it.

Cameron:  I don't know why we're getting blamed.  You dogs are the food thieves.

Sam:  You can't blame this on us.  None of us can reach the toaster.

Rusty:  Marcus can jump high.  It must have been Marcus.

Marcus:  No, it wasn't me and you know I can't leap onto the counter.  I would need a rocket launcher to get anywhere neat the toaster.  'Fess up.

Cyndi:  Well, it sure wasn't me.  I would never steal Jan's food.  Well, maybe if it was really tempting.  But bread?

Micah:  Why are you all looking at me?  I didn't steal it.  But if I had - and I'm not saying I did - it would be Jan's fault for leaving the room with the bread in the toaster before she'd fed us our breakfast.

Buddy:  As your attorney, might I suggest the next time you deny stealing bread, you wipe the bread crumbs from your chin first?

Twice As Precious

Merci:  We love Thankful Thursdays because we get to tell something we're ... well, thankful for, of course.

Sam:  This week we would like to give a special thanks to our dear friends Miss Pat and her canine Satch who sent us a wonderful gift box.

Buddy:  Monday afternoon the mail carrier caught Jan just as she was leaving to pick up some food and gave her a very heavy package.  This is what she found when she opened it.  Can you believe all this came out of that skinny box?

Marcus:  Is this where I say I don't believe it?

Buddy:  Yes:

Marcus:  Okay.  I don't believe it!  How did she fit it all in?

Merci:  Miss Pat just knows how to pack a box.  All those cans are dog food.  We don't get canned food any more unless someone gives us some.  We love canned food mixed in our kibble.

Marcus:  So what are all those other items?

Sam:  Dog treats, hip and joint chews, some odds and ends Miss Pat threw in for Jan - tea bags, chewy bars, popcorn, even some postage stamps.

Marcus:  Wow.  Is it Jan's birthday?

Merci:  Not for a couple of weeks. And even if it was her present, she'll share the canned food with us.

Sam:  Are you sure Jan will share?

Merci:  No, not really.  She does have an appetite. I hope she doesn't get the urge to snack in the middle of the night.

Buddy:  We are grateful for the package and it is twice as precious to us.  You see, that food was intended for Satch, but he hadn't been doing well for a while.  He and Miss Pat realized he wouldn't be able to hang around long enough to eat it, so they sent it on to us.  It arrived just a few hours before he was helped to the bridge.  (We posted Saluting Satch on Tuesday.)

Merci:  Miss Pat took good care of Satch and we know it's a big adjustment to be without him now.

Sam:  *removes his straw hat and places it over his heart*  We will think of Miss Pat and Satch as we eat the food they sent.
