Cyndi: This past winter we did a whole series of articles on beds. Dog beds, cat beds, purloined beds, shredded beds -
Buddy: Miss Pam crocheted Percy his own cat cave bed because his favorite sleeping place was taken over by Micah. (A Cat Cave for Percy)
Cyndi: So then Miss Pam crocheted a new bed for Percy because Micah took over his cat cave. (Percy's Cat Cave Part 2)
Buddy Miss Pam knitted Percy a new bed. And guess who claimed it before Percy even had a chance to see it? (Percy's New New Bed) Good guess. Yes, it was Micah.
Cyndi: Miss Pam then crocheted three more new beds - a total of five, one for each kitty. She hoped Percy would get at least one of them.
Buddy: But it got hot early this year and none of the cats wanted a warm place to sleep, so Jan put the beds aside for next winter; however, when she went to photograph them so the cats could thank Miss Pam, Jan couldn't remember where she'd put them. She tore the house apart - twice!
Cyndi: She did finally find them. By accident. She kept forgetting to take photos. Now that it's late July and we're sweltering, we finally have a photo of our lovely, warm, new, unused beds. Never fear, though, they will be used when cooler weather arrives!
Buddy: Yes, they will be used. The question is, even with one bed per cat, will Percy finally get to sleep in his own new bed or will some unnamed cat claim two for himself? The saga continues.
Cyndi: We want to thank Miss Pam for thinking of our comfort and for the work she put into gifting us with such beautiful winter beds.
Buddy: And the cats would also like to thank Jan for finally finding the beds she put safely aside so they wouldn't get lost.

Time Flies As Merci Ages
Merci: It's hard to believe it's Friday again. I heard time passes more quickly when one gets older and I guess it's true.
Taylor: I don't think time passes quickly.
Merci: That's because you're still young. Time is flying by me so fast Marcus saw it yesterday and snapped at it. He thought it was a bug.
Taylor: What would Marcus have done if he had caught it?
Merci: Eaten it. He thinks bugs are tasty. It was before your time but he once put a young lady in shock when he leaped in the air, caught and swallowed a bug.
Taylor: I'd have liked to have seen that. Marcus is quite agile, especially when food is involved.
Merci: I'm glad he didn't catch my time. I'm hoping to have more left so I can grow older.
Taylor: You will.
Merci: It's strange, but as I slow down, time speeds up.
Taylor: Perhaps if you speed up, time will slow down?
Merci: At my age, my "speed up" dial is broken. All I have left are "slow down" and "Stuck in Reverse".
Buddy: We would like to thank Chewy for the lovely St. Patrick's Day present. Jan thinks those beer mugs are neat but they're too heavy for her to use as water glasses, so she offered them to Mr. Doug. She's keeping the candy, thought.
Cyndi: It's time for another Mousebreath cat interview.
Rusty: We enjoy meeting new furries and making new friends.
Micah: We would love to meet you and be able to tell your story. Interview slots are open for Cat Scouts, or kitties that blog or are on social media. There's a contact box in our left sidebar. Drop us a note.
Percy: This week we are featuring Hermes, Chip and Chessie Hauck. Please stop by Mousebreath to meet this Cat Scouts family.
We are joining the Pet Parade hosted by Rascal and Rocco, Basil the Bionic Cat, Barking from the Bayou and Owned by a husky.

Percy's New New Bed
Percy: You might remember that last week Miss Pam knitted me a cat cave. After two days, I was evicted by my nemesis Micah. (Percy's Cat Cave, Part 2) This week Miss Pam knitted me a new new bed. Thank you so much, Miss Pam! I thought you would like to know how much enjoyment I have had from it.
Micah: I can't believe we have this new bed and Jan didn't even mention it when she stopped by my cat cave to pet me. Good thing I caught a whiff of the new scent and followed it into the living room, just in time to get my picture taken on it.
Buddy: So how does it compare to the cat cave?
Micah: It's a lighter weight and there's no cave, but it's a good size and very soft. Excuse me a minute. A cat should always take a bath when breaking in a new bed.
Buddy: Then I'm glad I'm not a cat. I just crash on the new bed and it breaks itself in.
Micah: That's the difference between cats and dogs. We have to follow etiquette. Unless we aren't in the mood at the moment.
Buddy: We follow etiquette too. Especially if there's a garbage can or a mud puddle.
Micah: This is the new bed. Pretty colors.
Buddy: Yes, blue for you guys and pink for Cyndi and Taylor.
Rusty: I didn't think Micah would every leave so I could have a turn. It's already past my nap time.
Micah: Hey, Rusty, you're in my new bed!
Rusty: No, Micah, I'm in Percy's new bed. You can have it back when I'm done with my nap.
Micah: I don't believe this. Rusty stole my new bed. Guess I'll just sit here on my old cat cave and see what's going on in the neighborhood.
Percy: That is what went on around here for three days. I never got to set one paw on my new new bed.
Buddy: Micah did get his comeuppance. Sometime during the night he vomited on it and Jan had to wash it and hang it up to dry. So no one got to sleep in your new new bed the past couple of days.
Percy: You wait and see, when Jan tries to give it to me, Micah will find a way to reclaim it. I'm trying to figure out how to donate one of the new beds to the church discount store up the road.
Buddy: Why would you want to donate one of the beds Miss Pam so lovingly knitted for you?
Percy: Because I'd donate it with Micah sleeping on it!
Correction: As Yam Aunty pointed out in comments, this bed is crocheted not knitted. As always, it's all Jan's fault. She told us it was knitted. Our apologies for believing her.

Percy's Cat Cave Part 2
Taylor: Uh-oh, I see trouble on the horizon. Percy hasn't had his new cat cave 48 hours (A Cat Cave for Percy) and now this.
Micah: What's "this"?
Taylor: You.
Micah: I'm not a "this". I'm a contented cat. I found this wonderful new bed behind a door. It's so soft and warm and no one was using it.
Taylor: It isn't a bed. It's a rock cave and Miss Pam knitted it special for Percy because you appropriated his hat and scarf bed.
Micah: I did not appropriate it, and I did offer him a time share, but he refused.
Taylor: You know he won't use anything you've touched.
Micah: Does that mean he won't want his cat cave back? That's okay. I won't mind a bit.
Percy: I don't believe it. I left the room for two minutes ... two minutes for a litter box break and Micah stole my new bed. Jan hid it behind the door so Micah wouldn't find it.
Micah: I heard you won't be wanting it back, Percy. Thanks for the new digs.
Percy: Sunday I had a wonderful new bed. Monday Rusty borrowed it for half the day. It's only Tuesday and I've already been evicted. (I know this is posting Thursday, but this happened Tuesday. *sniff, sniff*)
Taylor: I'll share with you, Percy. You can nap in my box bed if you want.
Percy: Thanks, but I miss my cat cave.
Taylor: You mean your cat cave with the rock slide roof.
Percy: Huh?
Taylor: You flattened out the cave by sleeping on it. The rock slide roof. Don't you get it?
Percy: No, and I don't want it. Not with Micah's smell on it. I'll just sit here a while in your box and try to remember how nice it was to curl up on my soft, warm, knitted bed.
Micah: Thank you, Miss Pam, for knitting this cat cave for Percy to give to me.

A Cat Cave for Percy
Percy: This new bed looks so empty, so I think I'll just take a nap on it.
Taylor: I guess Percy doesn't understand the concept of a cat cave. He's supposed to sleep in it, not on it.
Percy: But I'm so comfy on it. That nice Miss Pam knitted it just for me because Micah stole my knitted hat and scarf bed.
Rusty: Hmmm, I don't know where this came from but it seems like a good place to take a bath.
Taylor: Uh, Percy just went to the kitchen for a bite to eat. He'll be back soon.
Rusty: Okay, but as long as he's gone, I'll just take a quick snooze.
Percy: Can you believe this? I was only gone a few minutes and my new bed has been appropriated.
Taylor: Don't worry. Rusty will be leaving soon.
Percy: Ahh, finally I have my new bed back.
Rusty: Are you done with it yet, Percy?
Percy: No.
Rusty: Well, I'll just sit here and wait until you are.

Marcus Has A Blankie
Marcus: Really, Jan, you think this is funny? Stop laughing! I can still hear you in the kitchen.
Cyndi: I think you look cute. You remind me of one of those pictures of an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh.
Marcus: No, this is not any better. I am not a butterfly.
Cyndi: I hear you complaining but I haven't heard you saying thank you for the lovely gift. By the way, how did you rate a special gift all your own?
Marcus: Stella Rose, Angus, Maggie and their mom think I deserve something special for being such a good boy all the time.
Cyndi: I hope you don't think anyone is going to believe that. Why don't you tell the truth?
Marcus: Okay, but I like my version better! She explained it in a blog comment yesterday. "Dear Marcus, we are so happy you liked your new blankie. We sent that to you to cos mom read a post where you could not find yours. Stella Rose"
Cyndi: She must mean the post where you were wailing about losing your blankie. (Since I Lost My Blankie) But you didn't lose your blankie, you lost your bedding - except you were sleeping on it at the time. So, actually, you got a new blankie under false pretenses.
Marcus: That's okay, I still love it, just not when Jan makes me pose wearing it. Thank you so much to the Three Little Pugs for giving me such a nice blankie of my own. It was a nice surprise.
Cyndi: It worked for you. Do you think it would work for me? I guess it won't hurt to try. I really loved my nip nanner and I really miss it.
Marcus: You never had a nip nanner!
Cyndi: You never had a blankie either!

Decorating Nightmare
Marcus: Hey, look, our new typing chair. It's taller than the old one, so you shorties can reach the keys easier.
Cyndi: Wonderful.
Buddy: What was wrong with the old chair?
Marcus: You know Jan was always complaining she felt like she was sitting on a metal bar even with a pillow or cushion. This Serta chair has "comfort coils".
Cyndi: Buddy, you're sitting behind the chair. If you wanted to pose, you should be sitting in front of it.
Buddy: I'm not in the picture. *peers closely* Oh, yes, I am. Barely, over there on the left.
Percy: That's a good looking chair, isn't it! And Jan says it is so comfortable; the first chair she has actually been able to sit properly and comfortably in for many years.
Cyndi: That must be why we haven't been able to spend much time in it since Mr. Doug came over and put it together Monday.
Buddy: It was a belated birthday gift from Miss Teresa, the nice lady who saved Luke the Pee Machine (now Benny) from ending up at the shelter after we returned him to his owners (owners, not "family").
Marcus: It was a nice looking chair, so why does it look like this now that Jan is using it?
Cyndi: Mainly because a certain kitty used to stand on the back of the old chair and use it for a scratching post.
Percy: Why are you glaring at me? I never!
Cyndi: Then why is the old chair is in the background with a towel protecting it?
Percy: I have no idea!
Buddy: I think the sheet is to protect the chair back from He Who Shall Remain Anonymous's claws, but the towel across the seat and the wash cloths on the arms are because Jan has been sweating so hard in the heat and humidity she was sticking to the chair.
Marcus: I wish she hadn't done that. I was thinking of betting on how long it would take before she slid out of the wet chair.
Percy: I'd probably have been blamed for that too.
Cyndi: Even if Jan has turned it into a decorating nightmare, we are celebrating the comfortable gift for Thankful Thursday.
Buddy: Hey, before we close this post, we have some fun news. Our own handsome mancat Rusty was interviewed by Bacon for Spotlight Thursday. Hurry over there to read Rusty's interview.

Not All There Selfie
Marcus: Hey, I know we don't post on weekends any more, but Jan never remembers what day it is so we are sneaking in two posts for this weekend.
Merci: We had a number of pictures to post for Sunday Selfies but we never could find the time to get around to posting them.
Marcus: Today we're digging one out from 2014. Our handsome Sam was still with us and vying for center stage as we show off my new crate.
Merci: I didn't make it into many photos after Marcus arrived. He and Sam were both photo hogs and it was a competition with them. Thanks for finding one of the three of us, Marcus.
Marcus: No problem. I thought it only fair to include you too.
Merci: I appreciate it since you are usually pushing me out of the frame. And -- hey, wait a minute! You said this is a picture of all three of us. My face is missing.
Marcus: I said I found a picture of the three of us. I can't help it if you aren't all there.
Merci: Just because my head is missing, Marcus, does not mean I am the one who is not all there!
Yesterday Jan was tearfully surprised to receive a painting of our Angel Sam. All the way from France! Yes, France. Thank you, Suzanne - Loulou's mom - for the time and talent invested. What a thoughtful and caring present. It is hanging on a wall near the computer where we can all enjoy it.

Mum Kangaroo Dundee
Rusty: Hey, Jan, I've decided what I want to be when I grow up.
Jan: What's that?
Rusty: I want to live in Kangaroo Dundee's sanctuary in the outback of Australia.
Jan: What?
Rusty: Seriously. I want to watch Roger the kangaroo chase Chris "Brolga" Barns (Kangaroo Dundee) around the trees. That sounds like such fun.
Jan: Only if you're Roger the kangaroo because a kick from a roo that size could disembowel a man.
Rusty: But it's so important Roger keep in kick boxing shape so he can protect his family. And he's got a lot of roo women and joeys to protect.
Jan: Perhaps I shouldn't have let you read the book Fozziemum brought us from Australia.
Rusty: But it was such fun to read. Brolga is a real life hero mom.
Jan: I think you mean a real life hero dad.
Rusty: No, I mean mom. He rescues baby kangaroos from the mom's pouch when she's been killed by hunters or a vehicle and raises them in a pouch, just like the joey's real mom would. Well, except the real mom wouldn't raise the baby joey in a pillowcase. Then they are released into the wild. Except some can't be because they are too tame or have a disability. He started a sanctuary for them and now he's raising orphaned camels and other animals. He's also building an animal hospital in the heart of the outback. How cool is that?
Merci: Sorry, to interrupt. I couldn't help but overhear so I'd like to add my two paws worth. This is not a book review! But if you like to read animal rescue stories, or stories of someone building something from nothing that educates and aids animals, this is a book for you.
Rusty: Fozziemum is posting on her visit to the U.S. Last week she wrote about her visit to the Funny Farm. Stop by to read Meeting the Funnyfarmers. We love the photos of us she posted. Some of us ran away and hid but those that didn't met Bev and her camera.
Merci: And in case you missed Bacon's post Travels in the South. Or our post Our Mystery Guest. We have great memories from that day.
Rusty: We don't want to load you up with links to visit, but just in case you are interested in learning more about Brolga, the BBC has ( or had?) a TV series on his roo rescue and he can be found on YouTube. A search for "Kangaroo Dundee" will bring up the BBC shows as well as other videos.
Merci: He also has a website: The Kangaroo Sanctuary Alice Springs. We hope you have fun learning about kangaroo rescue. We did.

Our Mystery Guest
Micah: There was a strange woman in our house taking pictures of us. Who let her in and why was she here?
Buddy: Oh, that was our mystery guest.
Micah: Her being here was sure a mystery to me. I was napping. And then I wasn't.
Cyndi: I know how you feel. Percy, Taylor and I ran and hid, but the rest of you got caught napping and had to pose.
Buddy: It's okay. If you remember Jan had an email last month from Bacon's mom asking to come meet Jan and bring a mystery guest. Jan had no idea who it would be until yesterday morning when she saw the news on Facebook.
Marcus: Well, I think she was a nice lady. She took my picture. A lot! She's my friend.
Micah: Anyone with a camera is your friend.
Marcus: But she's special. She had TWO cameras so she could take twice as many pictures of me.
Buddy: Jan thought we would never meet any bloggers in the flesh since we live too far off the traveled trail and don't travel. But yesterday Jan got to meet two.
Merci: I remember her. That's Bev a.k.a. Fozziemom from the blog All Fur One and One Fur All. She lives in Australia and takes pictures of native wildlife. She just lost her dear dog Forrest recently.
Rusty: Bacon's human June (and husband Jim) drove Bev and Fozziedad Phil here and took Jan to lunch.
Buddy: Bev brought Jan some presents. A handful of her wildlife cards with kangaroos, birds, even a porcupine. Also, a copy of the book, Kangaroo Dundee. And chocolate bars. I suggested at least one of those bars should belong to us furries, but Jan refused.
Marcus: Here's a picture of June, Bev and Miss I Don't Want To Share My Chocolate Bars.
Merci: After a leisurely meal and a Funny Farmer photo op, it was time to snap Jim and June's picture before the visitors headed North.
Buddy: Jan had such a good day with these humans, she appears to be walking on air. We hope she doesn't trip up there 'cause it would be farther to fall and you know how she likes to fly and crash.

Luke Sends Ice Cubes
Marcus: Hey, is that all for me?
Buddy: No, it's for me and Merci too.
Marcus: Did Jan order these on Amazon?
Buddy: No, they came from our old friend Luke. He was renamed Benny, but you know how forgetful Jan is, so to us he's Luke/Benny. He lives in the Northeast and has a furry sister Rosie.
Merci: Why did he send us a gift box?
Buddy: Because he and his family wanted to do something nice for us canines. So they sent us some treats from where Luke/Benny's mom works. It's a holistic pet store and Luke/Benny gets to go to work with her. He picked these out himself.
Marcus: I remember meeting him before he went into rescue and was sent to the NE where his new family adopted him. Did Teresa get a box too?
Merci: I don't know. Teresa rescued him from his mean family when we couldn't help him any more because you were here, Marcus, and Teresa couldn't take in another dog either. Teresa and Jan are just so happy he has a good home, lives indoors, has a playmate sibling and gets a lot of love. Now he has a family and a job.
Marcus: Well, I am sure thankful they thought of us. Hurry up and open the treat.
Marcus: Oh, that looks good. It's a what, Jan? A 100% natural Himalayan Dog Chew made with yak and cow milk? Sounds yummy.
Merci: Thank you Luke/Benny, Rosie, Elise and Matt. We will enjoy everything, if Marcus doesn't hog the entire box.
Buddy: I was just thinking about the video we have watched several times of Luke helping himself from the refrigerator ice machine. He sure is a smart guy.
Marcus: That's right. He does filch ice. Do you suppose he included some ice in the package?
Buddy: *winks at Merci* Of course he did. Who in their right mind would ship a package of dog treats without including crushed ice?
Marcus: Thanks, Buddy. I'll just run in and make sure Jan put the ice in the freezer before it melted.
