Cyndi: Has anyone seen Micah since this morning?
Marcus: Yes, he was talking to Jan while she wasn't here.
Cyndi: No, that was yesterday when she went out to lunch. I haven't seen him since Jan yelled at him earlier.
Micah: Pssst, I'm over here. Under the bed. Is Jan still upset with me or is it safe to come out?
Marcus: I don't know. I'll go ask her.
Micah: No! I'm waiting for her to forget why she's upset with me.
Cyndi: I must have missed something. What did you do to upset her?
Micah: I don't know. We were talking while I was practicing breathing exercises. It was part of training my brain to do more than one thing at a time. Buddy and I discussed that yesterday. (Micah Trains His Brain)
Marcus: Oh, so that's what that strange conversation was between you two when she came home.
Micah: I thought that went okay. But this morning she suddenly turned on me yelling, "Don't you ever disrespect an officer like that again!" When did Buddy become an officer?
Cyndi: I didn't know he is. Let me think. Jan was chattering on about a chief of police in another county and -
Marcus: And then Micah said, "He's not anything special. Most males pee with one leg raised."
Micah: Chief of police? I thought she said the "chief of pee". I assumed she was talking about Buddy.
Marcus: I can't wait to see Jan's face when you try to explain this.
Cyndi: I can't wait to see Buddy's when he hears he's been publicly called the chief of pee.
Marcus: What I'm thankful for this Thursday is that, for once, I'm not the one in trouble.

Steam Engine with a Cold
MICAH: Shhh, don't make any noise. You'll wake the dogs.
PERCY: We kid around a lot in our post. We hope we haven't given you the idea we don't like each other.
MICAH: Yes, we have our moments.
PERCY: And here is one of them. Marcus and Merci sleeping butt to butt in Sam's bed.
MICAH: Oops, Jan disturbed Merci when she got the camera, but they were both fast asleep before that.
MARCUS: Zzzzz, snort, snick.
MERCI: What? Who snorts and snicks in their sleep?
PERCY: Obviously Marcus does.
MERCI: I was here first. He should go snort and snick somewhere else.
MICAH: He's sound asleep. I don't think you're going to wake him easily. Perhaps you could move?
MERCI: No way! I was here first and I'm very comfortable. I'm not leaving.
MARCUS: Zzzzz, snick, sneep.
MERCI: MARRRRRCUSSSSSS!
MARCUS: Huh, wah, is there a fire?
PERCY: Merci was just trying to wake you so she can get some rest without you making so much noise in your sleep.
MARCUS: Noise, what noise? I don't make any noise in my sleep.
MERCI: You sound like a steam engine with a cold.
MARCUS: I do no such thing. On the other paw, you squirm and sniff in your sleep.
MICAH: Guys, hey, guys, we're trying to tell everyone how well we get along. Can you cool it?
MARCUS: Yes. I'll cool it right here. Merci, you can cool it somewhere else.
MERCI: If you're not moving, neither am I.
PERCY: We do, we really do get along some of the time.
MICAH: I guess we should be thankful for that this week. Getting along some of the time beats none of the time.
PERCY: Do you mind moving over, Micah? You're in my space.
MICAH: It's not your space. I was here first.

Knee High To Jan
Heard around the house Wednesday night -
CYNDI: Hey, does anyone know why Jan is making so much noise tonight?
RUSTY: Yes, she's breathing.
CYNDI: Would you ask her to tone it down for a bit? Wait, why is she breathing like that?
RUSTY: Probably because if she doesn't, she'll die. Oh, you mean, what caused it? Grass.
CYNDI: Is she allergic to grass?
MARCUS: I hope not. We sure have an abundance of it. Look at how tall the grass is where Buddy and I are standing.
RUSTY: I thought we didn't have any grass growing in the dog pen?
MARCUS: We don't. After the new water line and sidewalk were installed, the contractor seeded the dirt on both sides and new grass grew ... and grew ... and forgot to stop growing until mowing season.
CYNDI: Wow, it sure did. Is this what you see along the route you walk Jan?
MARCUS: Only on this block. Our grass was sown first. The weather was the perfect temperature and we had an abundance of rain, so now we have an abundance of knee-high-to-Jan grass.
RUSTY: Oh, good, somebody mowed it!
MARCUS: Actually Jan couldn't stand looking at it any more and cut part of the grass on our property by hand yesterday.
CYNDI: What a mess!
MARCUS: It took her a couple of hours to do most of one side of the sidewalk. The grass was so thick and tall she couldn't use the long grass whip. She had to use those oversized scissors.
RUSTY: She must be tired! And sore.
MARCUS: And grumpy. I'd suggest staying as far away from her as possible for a few days.
RUSTY: I guess that means you'll have to behave?
MARCUS: I always behave!
CYNDI: This week we are thankful a kind man volunteered to come by with a lawn mower, so Jan might not have to finish cutting the grass with scissors.

Sarcastic Sharing
RUSTY: Jan is upset with you, Micah.
MICAH: I can't imagine why.
RUSTY: The usual.
MICAH: You mean I stole something again?
RUSTY: Yep!
MICAH: But Jan should know better than to leave food lying around. Even for a second.
MERCI: You ate half her sausage Tuesday. Before she had a chance to turn on the burner.
RUSTY: You are a lightning thief. Have to give you credit for that.
MERCI: You stole that turkey neck while Jan answered the phone. Too bad she caught you running away with it.
RUSTY: And you stole it again when she popped out of the kitchen.
MICAH: Ate half of it, too, before she remembered to cook it.
MERCI: What's left of it is cooling on the stove. Along with some turkey innards.
RUSTY: It was nice of you to leave half for the rest of us Funny Farmers to share.
MICAH: I thought so too. Have to share with my fur siblings.
MERCI: Micah, he was being sarcastic
RUSTY: I guess I know what one of us is thankful for this Thursday.
MICAH: Yes, I'm very thankful for a *burp* full tummy.

Happy St. Patrick's Day 2016
TAYLOR: Hey, whose idea was it to bring me one of Sam's old hats to wear? His head was bigger than I am!
BUDDY: Don't worry. It was just a joke. We asked Jan to include you in our post today since we're using a graphic from 2014.
TAYLOR: Sam was sure a character.
BUDDY: Yes, he was usually wearing the wrong hat for the occasion but we had a lot of fun teasing him about it.
TAYLOR: Cameron the Tuxie left for the bridge a few months before I arrived, but I've heard he and Sam were well-loved by all of you.
BUDDY: You weren't here long enough to get to know Sam's sense of humor. He was always making us laugh with his silly faces. Marcus is trying to fill his shoes ... er, paws now but he's a different personality type.
TAYLOR: Marcus is a different everything. I think his brain is filled with confetti so his personality changes as the different colored confetti shifts position.
BUDDY: I never thought of it like that, but you might be right. Let's hope his green confetti has shifted to the front of his brain for the day.
MARCUS: Hey guys, are you ready for the wearing o' the green today? I am.
TAYLOR: Look at him strut out of the room. I do believe one of these days his brain is going to explode confetti all over the place.
BUDDY: I hope he doesn't do it in the kitchen while I'm eating.
FUNNY FARMERS: Happy St. Patrick's Day to all.

Guilty Without Innocence
MERCI: On Tuesday we posted a Pre-Promenade photo from last month.
TAYLOR: Today, we would like to post a couple of pre-promenade yellow daffodils in bloom photos, also from last month.
MERCI: It's a good thing we have these photos because just a few minutes ago Jan looked out the window and discovered our beautiful blooming daffodils have been crushed. *wipes tear from eye*
MARCUS: I want it on the record I wasn't the one responsible! They are not even near the dog pen.
TAYLOR: No one has accused you, Marcus. We know you are innocent. This time.
MARCUS: Oh, okay, but you guys always blame me whenever anything happens. Even if I was out of the country when it happened.
MERCI: You've never been out of the country, Marcus!
MARCUS: Well, if I ever am, you'll still consider me guilty without innocence.
TAYLOR: Would you like to confess now, so you won't have to hire a lawyer later?
MARCUS: Yes ... no! Don't confuse me like that.
MERCI: So this Thankful Thursday you're thankful you haven't confessed to a crime you didn't commit while you weren't out of the country, but if convicted, you'll serve your sentence without protest?
MARCUS: Yes... no! You're confusing me. I think I need a solitary game of soccer to clear my head.

Flavored Water
BUDDY: I do love my water. I drink lots of it every day. Even get up sometimes during the night for a long, cool drink.
CYNDI: And then you get up an extra time or two for Jan to let you out to pee.
BUDDY: That's okay. Jan doesn't mind. She's used to popping up and down all night. It keeps her limber.
CYNDI: You mean it keeps her awake!
BUDDY: You might remember a week ago we posted Cloudy and Bubbly as part of the fun we've been having around here since the new city water line was connected to our pipes.
CYNDI: This is what the water from our kitchen faucet (and our washing machine) have looked like since the connection blew. It was repaired Sunday, February 21 and the cloud descended sometime the next afternoon.
BUDDY: If it sets for a minute, you can watch it clear from the bottom of the container, as it is doing in this picture.
CYNDI: Jan was told to let the water run and it would clear up. Hello, anybody listening? It's been a week and a half. Jan has let the water run. She has done laundry, dishes, cleaning. Believe it or not, she actually used water - running water - for all of those things.
BUDDY: Obviously, letting the water run has not fixed the problem in the kitchen. On the other hand - or paw - she can run water from the bathroom sink, or tub, or even the outside faucet and the water is clear.
CYNDI: The water is drinkable, bubbly but drinkable. Very unappealing, though. She emailed these photos to the interim city manager yesterday. It will be interesting to see whether someone will explain why after 18 years of clear water, a new water line is installed, and we suddenly have seltzer water.
BUDDY: The cats want tuna flavored water. We dogs think chicken or beef should be the preferred flavor. Jan wants her water to be clear and to remain tasteless. Boring!
CYNDI: While we're waiting for a solution, we might as well have some fun. Which flavor (or flavorless) water would you furries prefer? Tuna, chicken, beef, or other flavor?

Marcus Has A Fan
MARCUS: A happy Thursday to everyone. This is Marcus, keeping an eye on you from the privacy of my Private Dining Car.
MICAH: Hey, it's not your turn to have your picture posted.
MARCUS: Do you have one ready to go?
MICAH: Well, no. But it still isn't your turn.
MARCUS: I'm here. The early bird gets to have his picture posted.
BUDDY: Oh, let him have an extra turn. If you don't he'll just photojack your picture.
MICAH: Okay, but we need to make a schedule and hide his name until at least next January.
CYNDI: That sounds fair to me.
MARCUS: Not to me! That wouldn't be fair to my fans.
MERCI: You have fans?
PERCY: Yes, in his mind he has many fans. In reality, he has one fan named Dumbo. Dumbo also has big ears.
TAYLOR: I never thought of Marcus's ears being big, just his mouth.
RUSTY: Yes, behind those big ears and soulful eyes lurk the decibels of an emergency siren.
MARCUS: Come on, guys, stop kidding around. You are kidding, aren't you? Guys ... guys ... come back!

Marcus the Menace
PERCY: Imagine Jan's surprise when she was walking the dogs on Sunday (Valentine's Day) and Marcus stopped to look behind them. Jan stopped to see what he was looking at and thought, "Oh, no, another loose dog."
MICAH: And then she had one of those not again panic moments. Buddy was strolling, nose to the ground, several yards behind them. How long had he been wandering alone?
BUDDY: This time Jan didn't drop the leash. It snapped. The camera she carries on walks died so she had to wait till we were home before she could grab a couple of shots. The brown blur on the left was Marcus trying to contain his excitement around a leash.
MARCUS: Here let me sniff a broken end. There may be a clue as to what was wrong with it. Oh, by the way, the brown and white furry blob under my chin is not a misplaced goatee; it's the top of Buddy's head and ears.
CYNDI: Monday - the very next day - the same thing happened, only this time it was Merci's leash that snapped.
MERCI: Jan made me pose outside. I was so ashamed I tried to cower against the screen door. I didn't do anything wrong but I just know she thinks I broke it.
MARCUS: Don't worry, Merci. I'll explain to Jan that it wasn't your fault. The leash must have been defective.
RUSTY: You'll explain? I hope you mean you'll confess.
MARCUS: Confess? I was leading the pack each time a leash broke.
RUSTY: Every time Jan takes the leashes down and tries to get you dogs ready to walk her, you run around biting on the leashes. You're like a human baby, everything you see goes into your mouth. You grab leashes because you're excited, because the others don't walk fast enough, to try to turn them in another direction ... just because they exist. Your name should be changed to "Drop It"
MERCI: Jan has soaked the leashes in cayenne pepper, even sprayed bitter something or other on them, but nothing stops you from grabbing and biting leashes.
MARCUS: Are you trying to say those broken leashes were MY fault?
TAYLOR: They're not trying to say that. They are saying it. You have also been chewing on my toys and de-stuffing them. Marcus, you're a menace!
MARCUS: Aw, guys, I should be a hero. If I hadn't been nipping at the leashes, we wouldn't have learned they were defective.
CYNDI: We might as well give up, guys. Marcus has sharp teeth and an insanity defense.

Female Cat Impersonator
RUSTY: Taylor has been with us since November; however, things have been so hectic around here she hasn't had much attention on the blog.
MICAH: Yes, we keep intending to include her or post photos, but she's been pretty much an invisible Funny Farm visitor.
MERCI: Yes, she has been so invisible that when she does paticipate in a post, we receive emails asking, "Who is Taylor?"
PERCY: She first appeared in Introducing Taylor. She was the headless cat paws under the bed. She had a head; she was just hiding it from all of you strangers.
BUDDY: Today we are going to show you how adorable she is. We have posted a picture or two of her (with a head) since, but we didn't mention what breed of cat she is.
CYNDI: Do you notice anything about her that is different? Come on, look again. You aren't being very observant. Would you like to borrow Jan's reading glasses? (Not the ones she stepped on so the eye and ear parts go opposing directions.)
TAYLOR: Here is a better photo. Can you see how I differ from the Funny Farmer Felines? I'm a bobtail! A petite bobtail.
MARCUS: She arrived shortly before Sam became ill and died, so she had to adapt on her own during a chaotic time. She never talks and she never growls at me or whaps my face when I try to play with her. Personally, I think she's a female cat impersonator.
PERCY: You talk way more than Merci or Buddy together, Marcus We're thankful Taylor is quiet.
MARCUS: Well, one of these days she's going to find her voice, and then, if you think I talk a lot ...

MARCUS: Well, one of these days she's going to find her voice, and then, if you think I talk a lot ...

Body Here, Personality Missing
We haven't said anything about what has been happening around here lately, but Sam has not been doing well. It has been a roller coaster ride since he had two seizures on the weekend of December 5 - 6.
Yesterday Jan took Sam to the vet. Mr. Doug was a big help. He cleaned out the tailgate part of his van for Sam's bed. Mr. Doug kept offering to lift Sam in and out but he's not supposed to be doing any heavy lifting and Sam is currently 69 pounds. So Jan figured out how to lift Sam in and out. It turned out to be much easier using the waist-high tailgate part than it would have been the passenger section.
A physical exam and blood work shows Sam is physically a healthy dog. Neurologically, it's a different story. He has had a "vascular incident" - most likely a stroke, possibly vascular bleeding. He is blind in the left eye and his brain is not communicating well with his left side at all. He does respond to voices but his brain is slow to process. He isn't too sure where his feet are. He has little response to touch on his left.
He wanders around until he is exhausted and collapses. Jan took him outside at 1 a.m. the other night. and spent half an hour watching him walk around the yard as if he had no idea where he was. At 3 a.m. she had to extricate him from a small space where he was trying to squeeze between the wall and the cat tower.
Yesterday morning she wondered how a big dog could get lost in a small house. He was found in the bedroom closet (the door was open a crack) where he had lodged himself sideways. His reverse and left turns are not working well.
As we typed this, Sam wandered into Marcus's crate for the first time. He has been afraid of the confines of the crate. He went in crooked and got stuck. Jan opened the second door on the side and managed to maneuver him inside so she could walk him out backwards. He dropped down and stretched out. A few minutes later he was most of the way out, with one paw "stuck" - the front left paw. Jan had to lift it for him.
He isn't eating full meals but he is eating. He's not in any pain. His body is here but his personality is missing. This might reverse itself. It might not. It's one day at a time.
Meanwhile, Jan is exhausted from lack of sleep and an overload of stress. With one of us ill, the whole crew is stressed and we have been acting up a bit more than usual.
After 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan suddenly realized she had not paid our utility bill. If not paid by 5 p.m., it would cost another $25. $25 is rather precious around here. Thank you, Miss Johnnie, for giving her a ride so she didn't have to hike to town.
And, Mr. Mark, we can't thank you enough for your help!
Come to think of it, we have a lot to be thankful for this Thursday.
Please forgive us if we missed sending you our ecard. If we did, please pick it up on our Christmas Cards 4 U post.

Christmas Cards 4 U
PERCY: Jan finally finished our Christmas card. And her own. Our name is spelled correctly, so we're proud of her.
MARCUS: Can you guess which one this is? Ours, of course. We wanted to include all our friends, but we figure we must have left out someone.
RUSTY: We hope each of you who celebrate will have a joyful Christmas filled with loving family and friends.
CYNDI: This one is Jan's personal card. Please accept either one. Or both.
MERCI: On our walk today someone stopped her car to talk to Jan and we wrapped our leashes around Jan's legs.
BUDDY: When she untangled them, we walked about two blocks and then I gave Jan a big surprise!
SAM: Yep, Buddy suddenly decided to walk ahead of Jan instead of behind her and as he passed, she saw his leash dragging on the ground.
MICAH: Oops. Good thing a squirrel didn't appear. Or a motorcycle. Or a skateboard. Or just about anything he'd want to chase. We sure are thankful Jan didn't come home without Buddy.

Old New and New New Coats
BUDDY: Hey, remember my new coat? It ran a little small, so Miss Pat was really sweet and ordered me a larger one that would cover more and keep my tummy warm. It ran a little large.
PERCY: You look like a drowned rat there, Buddy. Are you planning to grow a bit?
MERCI: Jan is hopeful he will put on a little weight this winter but the girth strap is still too big, so it looks like she might need to stitch that a bit shorter too.
MICAH: Are you an old man, Buddy? You look like an old dog here.
BUDDY: I just turned 11. I guess I am an old dog.
CYNDI: Well, it sure does look like it covers a lot more of you so it should be warmer.
RUSTY: It has boops to put his back legs through so it stays put.
SAM: Boops? I think you mean loops. He didn't wear the loops on this trip. Jan was just trying to figure out what needed to be adjusted.
MARCUS: Jan sewed the understrap so the hood will stay on Buddy's head and the coat would stop sliding back so he doesn't pee on the coat.
MICAH: The next time he wore it, it fit much better but Jan forgot to take pictures.
PERCY: And then yesterday the weather started to turn cold again, so Jan got out his coat and discovered the understrap stitching had ripped open when he wore it walking.
RUSTY: So Jan has to sew it up again.
MERCI: But the good news is that Jan got the idea to try Buddy's old new coat on me - the one in the first picture above - and it fit! Well, I'm a bit long for such a small dog so the length was good but it's a bit roomy around the girth. So Jan has to sew that up too.
SAM: My new coat fits fine. Since Jan has to sew the other two, I guess you and Buddy, Merci, will be ready for winter by next spring.
MARCUS: Buddy really needs his coat and Merci's teeth were chattering the last cold night we had, so maybe we should all go pester Jan until she gets out the needle and thread again.
BUDDY: We are thankful to Miss Pat for our winter coats. We really like them and hope Jan can alter mine and Merci's a little without sticking herself with a needle too many times.
RUSTY: So, Marcus, that means you stay out of the room while she is sewing!
What are you thankful for this week?

Smiling on Tuesday
MERCI' I thought I would show you my new bed.
RUSTY: That looks comfortable, but why are we staring at your back?
MARCUS: Aren't you supposed to face the camera and smile?
MERCI: Only on Tuesday This is Thursday.
CYNDI: What's so special about Tuesday?
MERCI: I was smiling on Tuesday but Jan didn't come by with the camera until Wednesday..
BUDDY: That sounds about right. She's always late.
MICAH: Still, we would all like to see your pretty smiling face.
MERCI: So come by next Tuesday. It will be on display then.
PERCY: You're usually so easy-going, Merci. What's the problem?
MERCI: I'm teaching Jan a lesson. She's been taking me for granted. Smile, Merci. Turn around, Merci. Where's I'm sorry I'm late, Merci? Or here's a treat for posing, Merci?
SAM: You know Jan is forgetful. She probably thought it was still Tuesday when she took your picture. She did buy you a new bed so have a warm place of your own again.
MERCI: You're right, Sam. I should be thankful I have a new bed, even if Buddy does keep trying to scrunch himself up in it. Okay, I'll turn around and smile. Hey, where did Jan go with the camera?

A Toasty Nest
MICAH:
We've had some very chilly and wet days recently and I thought I would offer some advice on how to stay warm. Find a laundry basket with soft, warm laundry in it, climb in and curl up.
You're too big for a laundry basket? You're out of luck!
Wait! Maybe not. Some humans don't have a laundry basket, so find where they toss their laundry - the floor, the closet, wherever - and make yourself a toasty nest for snoozing.
And that's my Thankful Thursday advice for the day.
Oh, since we haven't been around as much as we'd like, if anyone is wondering where we are, we have our paws full trying to keep Jan from falling off a step-stool or through a window. She's trying to prepare the house for winter. Old folks are a bit slow and need a lot of snoopervising.

Ollie Goldendoodle and 'Tocks
MARCUS: Jan and I passed a goldendoodle and his human last week on one of our evening walks. I wanted to go see him but Jan said I have to learn to behave first. She's kidding, isn't she? I always behave!
BUDDY: In your dreams, Marcus. You came home, Jan grabbed her little walking camera and ran out the door without any of us dogs to protect her.
SAM: Guess she didn't need any protection that time. As they walked by on the other side of the street, Jan asked if she could take a picture for us to post on our blog. They both said yes.
MERCI: Here are Ben the human and Ollie the Goldendoodle. Jan said Ollie is so handsome. And friendly. He wasn't pushy, wanting all the attention for himself, as one of us is wont to do.
CYNDI: He is evidently trained and well-behaved. Ben would like Ollie to be a therapy dog because he loves people and is so calm, even at eight months of age.
RUSTY: Unlike a certain big-eared brown dog we know that is so hyper and constantly talking in a high-pitched screech. Yes, I am talking about you, Marcus.
MICAH: October will be ending in a couple of days and we have nearly missed Angel Derby's "Tocktober-fest". His brother Ducky carries on the tradition in honor of Angel Derby's October birthday.
PERCY: Here are our 'tocks. Puppy Marcus and Sam represent the canines and I represent us felines. Please take note of which one of us is exhibiting some modesty.
SAM: We have a winner in our Petsafe Breakaway Collar Giveaway. We numbered all the entries and used Random.org to pick a number.
BUDDY: Our winner is Dennis the Vizsla and as soon as we receive his shipping information, we will start the ball rolling so that he - or one of his siblings - can travel to new adventures with a safety collar. Click here for collar color choices and size chart.
