Percy: I think Merci has an admirer.
Marcus: She does?
Percy: Yes, the other day when Jan was playing ball with you in the dog pen, there was a tuxie cat in the next yard watching. We thought he (or she) was watching you.
Marcus: Everyone watches me. Jan says I'm not only good-looking, I'm fast and agile.
Percy: No, while you were huffing and puffing from the exercise, the tuxie suddenly jumped up and raced along the pen and stopped at the tree, where he stood for a while staring at Merci.
Marcus: What was Merci doing to attract a cat?
Percy: Nothing. She was just doing her usual, walking up the steps to get inside and when the door didn't open, she would go back down and wander around in the corner.
Marcus: I didn't see any cat.
Percy: You were too engrossed in the ball. And when Jan saw the tuxie stalking Merci, she used the ball to lure you in the house so you didn't scare the cat away.
Marcus: Are you certain the cat was only interested in Merci?
Percy: Positive! Before Buddy, Sam and you came along, Merci was a cat magnet. She rescued me when I was very young. Cameron was so attached to her, he used to wait outside to follow Merci on her walks; then when he got tired, Jan would have to carry him home. Finally, he just moved in. And when it was just Merci and Jan, more than one cat used to follow them part way.
Marcus: Wow! I didn't know that. Did Merci wear catnip perfune to attract them?
Percy: No, silly. They must have sensed her gentle nature. I'm just amazed that tuxie was so interested in getting closer to Merci that he paid no attention to you. You're hard to ignore!
Marcus: I must be losing my magnetism. I need to find it again. What should I do?
Percy: Oh, I don't know, but you could ask Merci for her secret.
Marcus: I didn't know Merci has a secret.
Percy: That's because Merci is calm and doesn't babble all the time like someone we both know.
Marcus: We know somene that babbles? Who is it? I won't tell. Come on, Percy, you can tell me. I'm your pal. Is it Rusty? No, it can't be. It must be Cyndi. She's a girl and girls like to chatter on and on about whatever. No, wait, I know who it is. I think. Is it ...?
Percy: Sigh!

Pre-Promenade
PERCY: Jan always gets excited when she sees the daffodils coming up each February.
MERCI: Yes, she does a wild dance in the dog pen and all the neighbors come over to take photos.
PERCY: I can't believe you just said that, Merci. You never lie!
MERCI; I wasn't lying. I was sprinkling fairy dust on the story to make it more interesting. (A Little Fairy Dust.)
PERCY: You're right. That does make a better story. Let's leave it in.
MERCI: Our daffodils are on the neighbor's property line and when their privacy fence was installed on top of them,, Jan thought they were lost forever.
PERCY: Oh, she of little faith. They don't grow straight, though. They crowd close to the fence and lean forward.
MERCI: These were the first buds of the season last month.
PERCY: They are the hardware of spring at our house.
MERCI: I believe you mean the harbinger of spring.
PERCY: No, I actually meant hardware. You don't have a working computer without hardware and spring can't arrive without a pre-promenade of daffodils.
MERCI: You're making that up. There's no such word as pre-promenade.
PERCY: Perhaps there wasn't. There is now.
MERCI: Yes, she does a wild dance in the dog pen and all the neighbors come over to take photos.

Introducing Taylor
Percy keeping watch.
PERCY: What was in that box Jan and Mr. Doug double-timed into the bedroom Friday morning and brought back empty?
SAM: I don't know. It was a rapid box in the front door into the bedroom, box out of bedroom, bedroom door closed/gated/blocked, box out the front door, and then Jan went off with Mr. Doug.
CYNDI: Do you think Jan has read her calendar and is buying our Christmas presents early?
MERCI: You're joking, right? Jan always says she doesn't have any money to buy us Christmas presents.
RUSTY: So what was in the big box? Oh, maybe she got us some new beds. No, she wouldn't need to lock them in the bedroom.
Percy.
PERCY: Well, I got a whiff of something unexpected so I'll just take a quick bath for when Jan opens the door and introduces us.
Taylor.
BUDDY: I think it's going to be a while before Jan introduces us. This is Taylor. Her human mom asked if Taylor could come spend the winter with us because she's not physically able to take care of her right now. As you can see, Taylor is a bit shy. She seems to think if Jan can't see her head she's invisible.
MARCUS: How come you got to sleep in the bedroom Friday and Saturday nights while the rest of us were locked out?
BUDDY: I guess I'm just better behaved than the rest of you.
MICAH: Be honest. You would have howled all night if Jan had closed the door in your face.
Taylor.
CYNDI: Taylor has been hiding under the bed for two days. As you can see, Jan long ago tore out the bottom of the box springs because a couple of us kitties have pulled similar stunts in the past.
MERCI: Jan invited me into the bedroom Saturday morning to find out where Taylor was hiding. I said she's under the bed, so Jan had fun getting down on the floor to take some photos. This is why she couldn't find Taylor. Taylor was standing, almost invisible, on a storage box - small feet with no body or head. Jan had to lie on the floor, prop a flash light on the box, set the camera on the floor and tilt it up to get this shot.
SAM: Taylor didn't eat or drink anything Friday, but Saturday morning, she ate a big spoonful of canned food Jan left under the bed for her. And after Jan downloaded and prepared the photos for today's post, she checked on Taylor and Taylor ate some kibble, sniffed Jan's hand and purred. She's back into shy mode again, so progress will be slow but at least the eating issue is resolving.
Percy guarding door.
MARCUS: Percy, you watched that door all day Friday, even sneaked into the room once before being evicted. Why?
PERCY: Because I'm top cat and I want to check her out before she gets any ideas.

You Thought Wrong!
RUSTY: We have had an interesting week. Jan says she wants a do-over. Can she get one?
MICAH: I don't think so, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
BUDDY: First, on Saturday she set the clocks ahead instead of back and had to reset them. (Daylight Savings Baby Goats)
MERCI: Then the phone went wonky with crossed wires and strange things happened - really strange! (Dona Nobis Pacem)
PERCY: And, of course, Marcus escaped serious injury when he tried to eat an empty cat food can when Jan popped outside for a "minute". (Gastrointestinal Fortitude of a Goat)
CYNDI: And it's been raining off and on for days, so we've all been cooped up with supersonic Marcus. (Still Raring To Go)
MARCUS: You're making fun of me again, aren't you? Well, I'm not the only one who has been in trouble this week!
SAM: You're right, Marcus. One evening Jan started to prepare dinner and decided to make a quick phone call. When she returned to the kitchen she found this.
CYNDI: Yes, someone opened the package of ground chuck and helped himself. Left crumbs around the stove.
RUSTY: He didn't even try to hide. Just nonchalantly laid on the top of the stove to digest his "dinner".
MICAH: Well, it was laying there in plain sight. I thought it was intended for me.
BUDDY: But as Jan said in a highly audible tone, you thought wrong!
PERCY: We have only had one interview subject in several weeks, so it appears there has been a loss of interest in the Mousebreath interviews. But we sure enjoyed being interviewed for Bionic Basil's blog recently.

Whisker Licking Good
Cyndi: Mmmmfff. flob, doo, pupper - Oh, sorry. I'm not supposed to talk with my mouth full. I'm just taste testing some food.
Rusty: *sniff, sniff* Yep, smells good enough to eat. I think I'll chow down and enjoy my breakfast.
Percy: The food we are tasting is B.F.F. (best feline friend) grain free Tuna & Chicken Charm Me, which is wild caught and dolphin safe. It comes in a 3.0 oz (85g) pouches.
Micah: Rusty, mmmmmfff, get your butt out of my shot. I'm trying to look handsome and eat without floof sticking to my nose.
Rusty: Don't complain to me. Complain to Jan. She's the one who handed out the bowls. This is where she put me.
Cameron: Ha! I had the good sense to be on top of the fridge for breakfast. I don't have to worry about any cat's butt in my shot.
Percy: In case the food in the dishes has looked a tad green, it's not the cat food. The morning Jan took the photos, she forgot what she was doing and added a little Spirulina and water as she usually does. Spirulina is green.
Cameron: Hello, peons! Were you a bit crowded down there? Plenty of room up here. I think I'll just sit here and enjoy an after breakfast bath.
Percy: This food is supposed to be low fat, grain free and high moisture (even without Jan adding water). It contains almost no carbohydrates.
Cyndi: BFF is produced in a facility that also produces food for people. The factory operates at international human food processing standards.
Rusty: The main ingredient is a red meat or dark meat from tuna, primarily skipjack or bonito.
Micah: Best Friends Foods is located in the US but is processed in Thailand.
Cameron: We searched and found a few good brands of pet food are processed in Thailand under strict regulation.
We all liked the b.f.f. grain free cat food in a pouch. Jan even refrigerated half a pack to see if Rusty would eat it. He won't always eat food out of the fridge.
Chewy.com provided us with the samples to taste test. We were not paid and any opinions are our own.

Spencer Seeks Someone Special
Hey, Merci here today. Our friend Gracie was contacted by someone who needs a home for his kitty. She passed the information on to us and we're sharing it with you.
*********************************
Dennis the Vizsla Dog's brother Tucker can use some prayers. The infection in his foot is not healing and he is losing bone mass.
*********************************
These are the awards Percy, Micah & Rusty received for participating in the Tabby Cat Club Caption This Event the other day. See, you all thought Percy and Rusty were really miffed at Micah, but since Jan said they could only have enough time to post one photo, Percy came up with a way for all of them to participate. Pretty nifty, huh? They all got an award.
(Above) is a picture of Spencer, my 10 yr old Tabby. I live in Los Angeles, CA and I'm getting married and moving in with my wife who has two dogs that are not cat friendly. I want to find a great home for Spencer as he has a special place in my heart. He is an indoor/outdoor cat, LOVES to cuddle at night and gets along with other cats.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Jeff
Please pass this information on to help find Spencer a home. You can contact Jeff by email. Just put this together in email format. jeffreyschlosser AT gmail DOT com

Rusty Rambles
Hey, Rusty here. Happy Monday to you. It's rainy, cold and dreary and but we're sacked out in front of the heaters trying to "unchill." Yes, I'm aware there is no such word but it's descriptive so I'm adding it to the Funny Farmer dictionary.
We're sending out some purrs and woofs to Jan's minister who is having (or has already had) partial knee replacement surgery this morning. I was going to say how lucky we are not to have knees to need surgery, but Jan ruined my day by saying cats and dogs have 2 knees and knee pain is a common cause of lameness in us furries. Before you gush about how brilliant Jan is she only learned this three minutes ago.
I can't figure out whether the number of cats lost in transit by airplane is climbing or if the numbers remain the same but lost animals are getting more publicity. We were glad to read that at least one airline takes a missing pet seriously! When Wenty's empty carrier arrived in Seattle without her, Alaska Airlines didn't drag their feet and lose valuable time. They went to great lengths to help find Wenty. And Wenty was found!
"Using everything from *Karma’s nose, high power spotlights, a search camera, an amplified listening device, and digital wildlife cameras, MPP conducted a detailed “area search.” Alaska Airlines gave the team unrestricted access to the baggage area and the tarmac area." (*Karma is a Missing Pet Partnership cat detection dog.)
You can read the rest of "Alaska Air Stops at Nothing to Find Lost Cat'" on Mousebreath. After some of the horror stories we have read on lost cats entrusted to an airline, this was a breath of fresh air. Missing pets should be taken seriously. Kudos to Alaska Airlines!
On a different subject, this title is a mouthful but we suggest you read it, especially if you are a newbie to blogging. There are a lot of folks out there who are anxious to take advantage of bloggers. Our Reading Lists, Hijacked By Spammers, Who Have Conned The Owners Of Blogs That We Follow.
Don't be conned by spammers. They are numerous and they are sneaky, so we furries need to be on our paws and remain smarter than they are.
Cat curiosity aroused: We've had a couple of contacts in the past few months asking if we take text ads on our blog and when we ask for more information, we're told all we have to do is to put their ad link in a post or two for them - not a new post, a prior post. This doesn't make any sense to us and doesn't seem particularly legitimate, so we've turned them down. But our whiskers are twitching to know why anyone would even ask. There must be some advantage to someone wanting to pay to have an ad placed in a "used" post or two, but we can't figure out what they get out of it. So we thought we'd ask our more knowledgeable readers if any of you know why someone would want to pay to "hide" an ad in an old post.
That's all the news I have for today. We have photos and a post or two to catch up on but Jan hasn't downloaded them from the camera yet. Perhaps by spring?
I'm going back to my blankie in front of the gas heater now and catch some zzzzzzzs.

Farewell Opus
We are sorry to have to say good-bye to our old friend Opus from Cat Naps in Italy. We were aware he was having ups and downs and his family was taking things one day at a time - even half a day at a time - but it was still a shock to receive the news Friday.
Opus had 16 good years with his family and was greatly loved. He is now greatly missed. We send lots of hugs, purrs and woofs to his human mom and to his Aunt Gracie kitty and her humans.
Because of the loss of his good friend Opus, Ruis' birthday party has been postponed.
Opus was a member of the recently formed Tabby Cat Club. Percy and Rusty are sad to lose a brother tabby. Socks is hosting a Sleeping Tabbies Saturday at the club today and Gracie has requested members participate, even though she will not be able to attend.
This seems to be another low point around the CB with long-time bloggers Parker, Dr. Tweety, Ginger Jasper, and Daisy Mae Maus having serious health problems. If we left anyone out, we apologize.
We're beat, so we're going to set this to auto post and hit the sack.

Snoozing and Deviled Ham
Gracie talked us into entering Kat's Kats' 2nd Annual Sleeping Contest. It was extended until the 7th, so if you haven't entered yet, you still have time. It's for cats only, though, and Buddy is sad he didn't get to enter his sleeping picture.
We tossed a piece of kibble to choose which of us to enter but Sam caught and ate it before it could land near one of us. So we decided to just vote. And Cameron's photo was chosen.
Here's Cameron snoozing away in a we-don't-have-a-clue what this is position.
In case any of you haven't yet met Pyewacket the piglet, stop by and say hello. And don't miss her Halloween costume - deviled ham.

Glassy Eye Sam Chatter
Hey, Sam here. Do my eyes look a little glassy? It's shock. We just found a carbon copy of Jan online. Well, not a look alike. Or in the same age bracket: Jan's ancient, the other human isn't. And Jan is more likely to drop a tune on your toe than carry it. And if she had to stand in front of an audience, her mind would go blank. But fast talking? Oh, yeah!
don't steal your sister's food Sam don't step on Merci's feet Buddy don't pull your bed behind me and screech like I'm killing you when I move.... You get the idea.
So after living with Jan all these years, we had no problem understanding this lady's patter. Different words, same tune. This is Anita Renfroe preaching to her kids instead of her furries.(Does she talk to her furries like this?)
f the video doesn't play click here.
Hope you enjoyed the video. Have a blessed Sunday.
PS: The Meezers’ Grampie is getting ready to leave them and their mom is very sad! He will no longer be in pain but it will be painful for those he leaves behind. They could use lots of support. Stop by Meezer Tails.
UPDATE: The Meezer Mom and family would appreciate your prayers, as her dad (the Meezer's Grampie) passed away this morning.
PPS: Mac from Wizard and Angel's blog had to be helped to the bridge yesterday. If you haven't stopped by, we hope you will go by and leave a message of encouragement.

Sweet 16 Opus and Sweet Pea
Today is Opus' 16th birthday. Since he's been under the weather a bit lately, it's going to be a low key party, held at Gracie's blog instead of Opus & Ollie's.
Graphic by Asta
Opus & Ollie popped in for a short time yesterday and almost spoiled the surprise but quick thinking Gracie convinced him we're preparing for Socks' birthday. We hope Opus doesn't think we've all forgotten about his special day.
Graphic by Gracie
Because of Opus’ recent health, special attention has been paid to the food prepared for the party. Olive (left) is overseeing the cooks: Gracie, Karl, & our own Samaritan.
Graphic by Gracie.
Surprise, Opus! Happy Birthday! We're taking him a present, a warm blankie for the coming winter cold, but we couldn't wrap it because Percy and Cameron got into a shredding contest and we didn't have any extra wrapping paper on hand.
Since you've all been given an invitation, go on over to help Opus celebrate his special day. This is the address where the party is being held - Gracie's blog.
Sweet Pea over at Mr. Pip's was very sick and had to be helped to the bridge yesterday, so we made a badge for him.. They lost Buddy less than a week ago, so this is a very sad time for them.

Adoptions, Buddy and Opus
September 17 - 25 is Petfinder.com's Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week.

We hope you will open your heart to special needs pets. Adopt the black dog or cat that is overlooked and often not adopted. Adopt the blind , the deaf, the disabled, the FIV positive, the old (even the elderly) or the much-maligned pit bull ...
They might be "different" but they can and will love and appreciate you as much as any other dog or cat would. Dare to think outside the box (doghouse or litterbox) and save a life. The pet you pick will be grateful for life!
Buddy is a feral cat that disappeared for 2 years but suddenly reappeared with a neck wound that Mr. Pip's mom wanted to get treated. Unfortunately, when she trapped him and took him to the vet, she learned his wound was much worse than thought and Buddy's pain was gently ended. Buddy was loved and his life mattered, so we made him a memorial badge. You can read his story on Mr. Pip's blog.
If you posted one of the earlier invitations, please exchange it for this updated one. The party will be held at Gracie's blog.

Mo Cats Day 2011
It's 09/09 (September 9) again. Time to celebrate cats on the internet.
First we'd like to introduce you to several non-internet cat types. Perhaps we can convince them to join the Cat Blogosphere.

Cameron on Fun and Safety
Hey, Cameron here. After our Saturday post on the internet and cats, Buddy, Merci & Sam said they are going to do a post on the internet and dogs. So never fear rumpydog, the dogs are on the internet too.
The dogs think they're going to help us with world domination. heheheHA!
For the fun part of this post, I have a cute leaf-diving dog video for you. My woofie siblings could never play like this because Jan is too lazy to make them a play pile. When she gets around to it, she makes a big pile on the curb. Well, what fun would it be to dive in one end and come out in front of a moving vehicle? Jan just has no sense of fun for furries.
If the video doesn't play, click here.
It's never inappropriate to have a reminder about Internet safety. Cat Patches recently posted a good piece on having gmail or blogger hacked - no, not how to do it but how to avoid being hacked - and we'd like to share the information with you. It's called Thought You'd Want to Know. If you haven't read it yet, take a minute to drop by. You might learn something helpful.
The link to "this article" in Patches' post is to Computerworld and an ad will open before you can read the article, but it's okay, you're not hijacked. :)
We're in drought here and are finally getting some rain. Our weather radio is beeping about a bad storm coming so we're trying to finish up here. Rain is expected for the rest of the week. This is both good news and bad. We need the rain. But will Jan's clunker run in this weather without leaving her stranded?
If not, I guess she can hike to Wal-mart or Petsense and carry our food home. We have to eat and she needs more exercise. What better exercise than carrying a 36 - 40 pound bag on one shoulder and a 16 - 20 pound bag on the other? Jan is soooo lucky! What would she do for exercise without us?
Oh, I almost forgot to mention, Jan finally updated our jff designs blog yesterday. I don't know why she's complaining about enough hours in the day. But she added 5 posts on Halloween so visitors can get a better idea of what they look like. She's going to do some more posts today, if the weather cooperates. Just click on "Halloween" in the tag list in the left sidebar. If you like them, tel your friends.

Sweet Mama and Kits
Oh, we forgot to mention today is National Dog Day and our post Retired Military Working Dogs is below this one.
Update: Good news. Random Felines left a comment:
I emailed Kathy about them and she found a local rescue to take them so the family is safe!!
The needs for rescues are never-ending. We received another message from our rescue friend Tobin.
This sweet Lynx Point Mom & 4 Kittens are being rescued today by my friend Kathy.
Kathy does rescue & is already bursting at the seams, she doesn’t have room. But she’s going to rescue this mom & kittens hoping that a foster can be found ASAP.
Please contact me, or Kathy directly, if you can foster.
The cats are in the Cleveland area but we will arrange transport to anywhere. Thank you!
Toby: tdf138 AT hotmail.com
Kathy: therescuerailroad AT fastmail.fm
Even if you don't live in the Cleveland, Ohio area, you can still help by passing on the information. Sorry for the quality of the photos, but they were taken in a very dark area and we asked Jan to try to lighten the pixso you can get a better idea of what the mother and babies look like..

Talk to Cotton's Paw
Hey, Cotton here. Or maybe I should change that to Cotton's paw. Why? Cause I put my paw down tonight!
Our last two posts have been very sad ones because the blogosphere)lost the lovely 19-year-old Miss Peach one evening and the handsome 11-week-old Beignet the next day.
I'd sing and dance to make you all smile tonight but I'm 12 years old so my dancing boots have been retired and my voice doesn't project as well as it did when I was young. So, I'll just tell you this post is about an opportunity for some to learn to help feral cats.
Our rescue friend Tobin has sent us some information on a free public feral & stray cat seminar to be held in Ohio. I am aware most of you don't live in Ohio. We don't live there either. But you might know someone in that area who feeds feral cats and might be interested in attending. So pass along the information, please.

We Barely Knew Him
Hey, this is Cyndi. We're kind of pensive tonight, so we're just going to do a short post. And after you read it, we suggest you hug all the humans and furries in your life. And hug them often!
Last night we posted a request for prayers for Beignet, an 11-week old kitten that was having another surgery today. Unfortunately, he passed away during the surgery.. We've heard of pets getting a cancerous lump at a vaccination site, but it never occurred to us it could happen to one so young. Paula had been looking forward to bringing him and Truffle into her home shortly,. You can leave a message for Paula and for Terri, his breeder who also loved him, on Sweet Purrfections.

Miss Peach and Beignet
We knew this was coming but it was still a shock to read the news on the CB that the vet was on his way to help Miss Peach to the bridge. She's been growing weaker, but still eating and drinking water and getting lots of cuddle time from those she loved.
We needed to do something so we made this graphic. You're welcome to use it if you'd like. We found this lovely photo of her that was posted in 2008.
Miss Peach didn't start blogging until she was 15 years old and when we met her she was very sick. Her family thought they'd lose her then, but she pulled through and spent the next few years ruling her home as an "eccentric." She slept in a frying pan, in a litter box, in a drawer - As cats are prone to do, she moved from favorite spot to favorite spot and always received soft, warm bedding to make her comfortable.
She was greatly loved by her family and all her blogging friends. She's been blogging since April 2007 and we will miss her. Our condolences to mom Karla, Lapdaddy, best buddy Cole, and the feline Miss HoneyBunny
Farewell, Miss Peach. It has been a pleasure to know such a sweet Victorian Devon Rex kitty.
We're also sad for Mom Paula of Sweet Purrfections because Beignet will not get to come home with Truffle in a few weeks.Beignet is sick and will need special care for the rest of his life.
At least the other bad news of the night had a good ending. BeauBeau was missing but he's home now - and grounded. Whew. We were worried about him.

Farewell Kismet
It is always sad to say good-bye. Today the cat blogosphere lost the big mancat Kismet. He died peacefully in his sleep, leaving behind a grieving sister and human and lots of friends.
His mom was looking forward to starting life in a new home with him. We were looking forward to reading his adventures in moving cross country.
Farewell, Kismet. We enjoyed knowing you.
