Photogenic Trio

Percy: Hey, I protest! You two keep hogging the posts with your photos. It's either you guys or Marcus.  The rest of us want equal time.

Micah:  It's not our fault Rusty and I are so photogenic and pose so nicely together.

Percy:  Well, I'm photogenic and I pose nicely.

Rusty:  Ah, but not "together" as we do.

Percy:  Micah and I don't like each other so I don't think you're going to get us to pose together.

Micah:  You should try it sometime.  It's really fun to have a friend.

Percy:  Okay, I'll just go sit on the other side of Rusty and Jan can take a picture of the three of us together.  Or sort of together.

Rusty:  Oh, no, you don't!  I'm not sitting between you two.  I don't have any claws to defend myself.

Micah:  I don't blame you.  Percy likes to attack for no reason.

Percy:  Attacking you is not for no reason.  I have to defend myself.

Micah:  Are you claiming I instigate our battles?

Percy:   Well, I certainly don't.  Or rarely do.

Rusty:  I think I hear some kibble calling my name in the kitchen.  Somehow I think I will feel safer in another room.  If you will excuse me, I'll just tiptoe out of range.

Micah:  That sounds like a good idea.  I think I'll have a snack too.  If you'll just move out of the house, Percy, so I can get by you...

Rusty:  Since Percy is otherwise occupied after being pushed off Marcus' crate by an unnamed assailant, I'll go ahead and announce our interview subjects for this week are from Cuddlywumps Cat Chronicles.

Misplaced Jan and Memorial

Micah:  Cyndi, why are you wearing that old hat? I thought you had misplaced it.

Cyndi:  I found it and it's not old, at least not as old as Jan is.  She is the one who actually misplaced it behind some shelves in the bedroom.

Micah:  Are we going to have to misplace her soon and find a new human?

Cyndi:  I think so!  I can't believe what she did to us Sunday night.

Merci: It wasn't that bad.  We didn't catch her mistake either.

Micah:  But it's not the first time she's been on the wrong day, either forgetting or causing confusion.

Merci:  Calm down.  Take a deep breath and let's discuss this rationally.  It might help you feel better.

Cyndi:  Okay.  We felines have been working ahead on the mousebreath cat interviews.  Sunday night we finished another one and it's ready to auto publish in a couple of weeks.   By then it was very late and we were all tired.

Micah:  And suddenly Jan told us we didn't have a post for the next day and we'd better hurry up and post one before she turned off the computer.  We finished our yesterday's post after midnight, set it to auto publish, and gave a sigh of relief.  Then we went to bed.

Merci:  So what is the problem?   It all worked out well.

Cyndi:  The problem is that the next afternoon it occurred to us it was only Monday, not Tuesday.

Merci:  Yes, it was.

Micah:  But we have only been publishing on Tuesday and Friday now.

Merci:  Oh, I see.  Jan convinced you to write your Tuesday post Sunday night to publish on Monday.  Yes, that is a bit odd, even for her.

Cyndi:  We did publish on Tuesday - Jan's idea of Tuesday.  That's why we're publishing again today.

Merci:  Because it's Tuesday again?

Micah:  No, because it's Wednesday, the middle of the week.  Jan blew up our regular schedule and there's an extra day that needs attention.

Merci:  I'll take your word for it.  What an odd week.  Sunday became Monday.  Monday was Tuesday.  Tuesday was lost and Wednesday we are posting off schedule.

Cyndi:  Right.

Merci:  I hope readers aren't as confused as we are! They might not come back.

Micah:  Yes, it might be time to misplace Jan.

Jan:  On Facebook Monday (yes, it was actually Monday, not Sunday or Tuesday), I realized I hadn't seen a post from my old cat-loving friend KC.  She was not a blogger but we met through my blog and her cat story site.

I went to her page and read condolences.  I didn't know any of those people but  left a comment asking what happened.   KC had a heart attack Thanksgiving night.  It's hard to believe she is gone.

This is a picture of my ex-vehicle posted on JFF after a snowstorm in 2009. KC added her cats and some text to it and sent it back as a joke.  I loved it.  She was kind, funny, adored her cats and used to post to a site she called Gentle Annie2 named after her beloved cat Annie.

KC is now with her first husband and her son.  May her husband find strength and comfort in happy memories.  I am hopeful her cats are safe and comfortable.

KC sent this in 2008 and it seems appropriate to use it here.  We will remember you that have gone before, KC!  Rest in peace, dear friend.

Percy Runs With Idea

Percy:  All right, you guys, listen up!  You've all had turns posting lately.  It's my turn today!

Merci:  What are you going to post about?

Percy:  Whatever I want!  Uh ... do you have any ideas?

Merci:  Mmmm, let me think a moment.  I know!  We can post on why Jan abandoned us last Thursday.

Percy:  Oh, right.  But remind me again, why did she abandon us?

Merci:  It was one of those rare times Jan was invited anywhere besides Walmart, church, Walmart, Toastmasters, Walmart ... and did I mention Walmart?  She often longs to get out of town for different scenery.

Percy:  That's right.  She has said that a few thousand times or more.

Merci:  Well, her friend Teresa took her to lunch at Brian's Buffet in Griffin.

Percy:  So she abandoned us to stuff her face?

Merci:  Yep!  And as Jan has said a number of times, you never know who you will meet when you get out of the house.

Percy:  Who are these people in the photo?

Merci: Elsie (left) and Darlene (background) work for Brian's Buffet.  And Teresa is on the right.  As soon as she saw the camera, Teresa started scooting out of photo range, but Jan has a fast trigger finger.

Percy:  These ladies look familiar.

Merci:  Elsie and Darlene were in the other picture.  They were so sweet and helpful and even told Jan they wouldn't mind if we post their pictures on our blog.

Percy:  If they like to be helpful, they could come to our town and serve us furries our meals.  I'm sure they wouldn't just slap the dishes down in front of us.  Unlike Jan, they'd sprinkle in a little catnip or something tasty, I'm sure.

Merci:  Elsie has written two books for children, Thank God for My Stepfather and Are You Man? According to her bio on Amazon - "Elsie was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti ...  was inspired to write this fable by her great-grandmother, who couldn't read or write but shared her stories in the hopes that one day they would be passed on. Elsie speaks and writes English, French, and Creole..."

Percy:  She sounds very talented. Has Jan read her books?

Merci:  No, she just learned of them the other day and we don't have any children in this house to read them to.

Percy:  Doesn't Marcus qualify as a bratty kid Jan could read to?

Merci:  Can you picture Marcus sitting still long enough for Jan to read him a story?  He couldn't even stop talking that long.

Percy:  Thanks for the idea, Merci.  My post is finished.  All I needed was an idea and I ran with it.

Merci:  I think you ran with more than an idea.  I think you conned me into writing a post for you.

(Hey, Elsie & Darlene, if/when you see this, there is a contact form in our left sidebar.  Send us a message with an email address and we'll send you a copy of the pictures.)

The Box Line

Micah:  Oh, look what I found.  A box of food just waiting by the window for someone to nap on it.

Buddy:  Jan is going to be very unhappy with you.  Mr. Bill sent her that box of food and she hasn't had a chance to empty it yet.

Micah:  That's okay.  I'm not as particular about my boxes being empty as some cats are.

Buddy:  Well, Jan might be particular about you sleeping there.  You're denting the food boxes.

Micah:  I think they're denting me too.  I'd really rather not have box corners poking me, but if I stay here and look uncomfortable, perhaps Jan will empty the big box faster.

Buddy:  You're a bit late.  April Fool's Day was Saturday.

Micah:  I'm not fooling.

Buddy:  If you really want to sleep in the box, I'd go borrow Marcus's Great Swampi plopped down turban (Great Swami Marcus 6)  and use it as a cushion on top of the food.

Micah:  That's a good suggestion.  I think Marcus left it on top of his crate.  Would you mind bringing it to me?

Buddy:  Why don't you go get it yourself?

Micah:  If I move, I'll lose my place in the box line.

Buddy:  *looks around*  What box line?

Micah:  The one the other cats will form as soon as I move.

Buddy:  The box has been sitting there for a week.  There hasn't been any box line.

Micah:  There will be now that I've broken it in.  Rusty will want to sleep with his head hanging off the top.  Cyndi and Taylor will want to nest between the tuna cans.  And Percy will want to spray it to cover my scent.

Buddy:  *sigh*  Okay, I'll go borrow Marcus's turban for you.

Micah:  Thanks.  And since you'll be passing the treat bag, could you bring that too?

On a serious note, we're thankful Monday wasn't as bad here as predicted. This is what we it looked like in the distance when the weather radio started squawking and the emergency sirens sounded around 12:30 pm.  We had a t-storm, hail and a downpour where we are.

And Wednesday's more severe weather mostly by-passed us, for which we are extremely grateful! A tornado watch most of the day and another round of storms due in about an hour (writing this Wed. evening), but we're doing fine - so far.

We know many of you were included in the severe weather warning area and hope all of you are okay!

Won Word Wednesday 2

FRIENDS!

Rusty:  I did it!  I did it!  I won!

Marcus:  What did you win?

Rusty:  I just wrote a one word post.  Last week you all laughed at me because I went over the word limit. (Won Word Wednesday)

Marcus:  I hate to burst your bubble but you've gone over the limit on this post too.

Rusty:  No, I haven't.  I just said "friends".

Marcus:  And then you started doing a victory dance while singing your victory song, and now we're having a conversation.

Rusty:  But ... but ...

Marcus:  All words count.  You're over the quota.

Rusty:  Where's the delete button?  I can delete this.

Marcus:  Our delete button is broken, remember?

Rusty:  Since it doesn't matter any more, I'm going to change my original post to two words.

Marcus:  Two words?

Rusty:  Yes.  EX - friends!

Mum Kangaroo Dundee

Rusty:  Hey, Jan, I've decided what I want to be when I grow up.

Jan:  What's that?

Rusty:  I want to live in Kangaroo Dundee's sanctuary in the outback of Australia.

Jan:  What?

Rusty:  Seriously.  I want to watch Roger the kangaroo chase Chris "Brolga" Barns (Kangaroo Dundee) around the trees.  That sounds like such fun.

Jan:  Only if you're Roger the kangaroo because a kick from a roo that size could disembowel a man.

Rusty:  But it's so important Roger keep in kick boxing shape so he can protect his family.  And he's got a lot of roo women and joeys to protect.

Jan:  Perhaps I shouldn't have let you read the book Fozziemum brought us from Australia.

Rusty:  But it was such fun to read.  Brolga is a real life hero mom.

Jan:  I think you mean a real life hero dad.

Rusty:  No, I mean mom.  He rescues baby kangaroos from the mom's pouch when she's been killed by hunters or a vehicle and raises them in a pouch, just like the joey's real mom would.  Well, except the real mom wouldn't raise the baby joey in a pillowcase.  Then they are released into the wild.  Except some can't be because they are too tame or have a disability.  He started a sanctuary for them and now he's raising orphaned camels and other animals.  He's also building an animal hospital in the heart of the outback.  How cool is that?

Merci: Sorry, to interrupt.  I couldn't help but overhear so I'd like to add my two paws worth.  This is not a book review!  But if you like to read animal rescue stories, or stories of someone building something from nothing that educates and aids animals, this is a book for you.

Rusty:  Fozziemum is posting on her visit to the U.S.  Last week she wrote about her visit to the Funny Farm.  Stop by to read Meeting the Funnyfarmers. We love the photos of us she posted.  Some of us ran away and hid but those that didn't met Bev and her camera.

Merci:  And in case you missed Bacon's post Travels in the South.  Or our post Our Mystery Guest.  We have great memories from that day.

Rusty:  We don't want to load you up with links to visit, but just in case you are interested in learning more about Brolga, the BBC has ( or had?) a TV series on his roo rescue and he can be found on YouTube.   A search for "Kangaroo Dundee" will bring up the BBC shows as well as other videos.

Merci:  He also has a website:  The Kangaroo Sanctuary Alice Springs.   We hope you have fun learning about kangaroo rescue.  We did.

Two Right Feet

Percy:  Hey, Marcus, you love to have your picture taken.  Why are you not looking at the camera?

Marcus:  Because Jan said this post is not about me and I'm looking to see who usurped my post.

Percy:  Then who is this post about?

Buddy:  It isn't about anybody.  It's about this pot of lovely petunias.  Someone named Alice gifted them to Jan last week.

Percy:  Someone actually gave Jan living flowers?  Didn't anyone tell Alice Jan has a black thumb and everything she touches dies?

Buddy:  I guess not.  And surprisingly, they're still alive.

Percy:  It was really nice of Alice to give Jan the flowers to enjoy.  Oh, you can look at the camera now, Marcus.

Marcus:  Not really.  There has to be someone hiding in the bushes to protect these flowers.

Buddy:  I doubt it.  We would have caught a whiff of his scent if anyone was hiding there.

Marcus:  By the way, did you happen to notice anything funny about the flowerpot?

Percy:  I didn't.  Did you, Buddy?

Buddy:  No.

Marcus:  Take a closer look.  The pot has two right feet.

Percy:  Hey, you're right.  That is funny.  Who ever heard of a flowerpot with two right feet?

Marcus:  Actually, who ever heard of a flowerpot with polished toenails wearing flip flops?

Buddy:  Don't laugh.  It's the perfect gift for Jan.

Percy:  Why?

Buddy:  Because Jan has two left feet.

Marcus:  I never noticed that.  Are you sure?

Buddy:  Of course.  I've heard her say many a time over the years that she can't dance because she has two left feet.

Percy:  Well, now she has a flowerpot to dance with.

Marcus:  This I have to see!

PS -  Remember our post on Our Mystery Guest?   Drop by Bacon's Travels in the South post from yesterday to see some familiar faces.  Without the pictures, we would think we imagined meeting a couple of pet bloggers in the flesh.

Keeping Buddy Company

Merci:  Oh, here you are.  I thought you were going to help me teach Taylor how to knot Jan's shoelaces?

Percy:  Shhhh.  Buddy is tired.

Merci:  So come help me and let him sleep in peace.

Percy:  Not right now.  Buddy needs me.

Merci:  But you're not doing anything.

Percy:  Yes, I am.  I'm keeping Buddy company while he sleeps.

Merci:  But he doesn't know you're there.

Percy:  That's okay.  I said I would.  I think I'll stay.

Frankie and Ernie Snow Freak Chaos

BUDDY:  Our friends Frankie and Ernie have been offline (for the most part) while their typist lazed around for the summer

PERCY:  No, Buddy is kidding.  Their typist mom and their dad were actually working hard to downsize their possessions, pack up what's left, and move to Pencil Vane E Ah to be closer to family.

CYNDI:  We have been waiting for them to return to blogging.  We understand they moved Tuesday and today is supposed to be the big return day.

MERCI:  So we would like to ... uh, what's that?  Micah, do you see what I see?

MICAH:  Yes.  Guys, get your nose out of the goodies box. Listen to me!  R-U-N!

CYNDI:  Eeeeeeeeeek!  We're running!  Where do we go?

RUSTY:  Oh, no.  We heard a rumor that Frankie and Ernie's mom allowed some of her snow freaks to escape while she was packing them!

CYNDI:  Frankie and Ernie are terrified of their mom's snow freaks.  They wreak havoc wherever they appear.  (The snow freaks, not Frankie and Ernie.)

PERCY:  Guys, behind you!  Look behind you!  We're being invaded.  R-U-N for your lives!

MARCUS:  *waves paw*  Hey, Percy.  Do you want to come outside to play with us?

RUSTY:  Turn around!  Snow freaks!  Snow freaks behind you.

SAM:  No, we're not snow freaks.  We don't like snow, remember?

MICAH:  You nincompoops, TURN AROUND!

MERCI:  Help!  Mrs. Frankie and Ernie's Mom, helllllllp!

SAM:  Oh, no, they're in back of us and in front of us.  Where do we hide?

MERCI:  Cyndi, push the screen door open and let us in!

Whispers heard from a secret hiding place.

MICAH:  *low groan* Sam, get off of my paw.  You weigh a ton.

SAM:  Sorry, Micah.  Someone pushed me.

CYNDI:   Rusty, get your butt out of my face.  Your long fur tickles my nose.

BUDDY:   Will you all be quiet!  They'll hear us.

PERCY:   We're doing the best we can.  It's very cramped in here.

MARCUS:  It sure is.  And dark.  Pitch black.  I'm not sure if I'm facing one of you or a wall.

RUSTY:   Does anyone have a match?

MERCI:  We're hiding in a tiny closet from renegade snow freaks.  There's barely room to breathe and you want a match?

Along with a host of your other friends, we would like to welcome you back to blogging, Frankie and Ernie.  We recently read you already met a number of friendly canine neighbors and some humans too before you moved.  And you'll be getting a new fence for your yard to keep you safe.  We hope you will all love your new life in Pencil Vane E Ah.  Be blessed and happy!

PS -- And please, please, please send your Mom to collect her snow freaks ASAP so we can come out of the closet!  Cyndi has to pee.

Cleanup on Aisle Kitchen

MERCI:  As you already know, dirt is Marcus's favorite color.  He'd coat the whole house in it if Jan would stop vacuuming.

RUSTY:  In yesterday's post (Marcus's Best Friend Returned) we mentioned "the vacuum that spilled dirt all over the place was returned to Walmart for a refund the other day, despite Marcus' protests the dirty vacuum was his new best friend."

MICAH: And our friend Loulou (Living with Loulou) had us rolling on the floor laughing at her emailed comment.  We think she really understands our Marcus.

LOULOU:
Marcus, you have to get a life. A vacuum cleaner is your best friend????
Oh, boy....
Wait 'til Jan gets a really cute mop.

CYNDI:  We have a mop but have never considered it cute. Still, we had visions of Marcus becoming best buds with it, or with one similar.

PERCY:  So, in the interest of reporting only the facts, we asked Marcus how he feels about mops in general and our mop, in particular.

MARCUS:  A mop is such fun.  Jan and I both get some good exercise.  She pushes it and I chase it.  A great toy.

SAM:  But would you like to become best friends with one?  Shake its handle or give it an occasional hug?

MARCUS:  What, are you, nuts!  Why would I want to hug a mop?  But I love dirt, so, yeah, if it's dirty, we could definitely become best friends.

BUDDY:  Oh, great.  Merci, get the mop.  Sam, grab the bucket.  Percy, can you manage some projectile vomiting from the top of the fridge?  Jaaaaaaaan,  clean up needed on Aisle Kitchen!

CYNDI:  So this week we're thankful for a little peace while Marcus bonds with our mop.  What are you thankful for?

Foxy, Coon, Bird and Skip

PERCY:  Hey, why is Miss Doxie's picture posted here today?  I thought we were going to post one of us.

RUSTY:  We were, but we couldn't agree on which one of us to post and since Jan is antsy to shut down for the night, we grabbed the first picture we saw.

CYNDI:  But Miss Doxie (From Foxy to Doxie) only stayed with us for one night because her owner abandoned her.

MARCUS:  Okay, she's not one of us, but we need a picture and she fits the bill, so let's stop arguing and get to work.

MERCI:  Oh, I'm impressed.  Marcus just had a word of wisdom and it actually made sense.

MICAH:   Jan took this picture recently to remind her of a very nice old man who used to talk to her and the dogs on their walks.

BUDDY:  He nicknamed me "Coon", for coonhound. Sam was "Bird", the bird dog.  And Merci walks with a distinctive skip in her gait, so she was, of course, "Skip".  Yes, we will forever be Coon, Bird and Skip.

SAM:  One morning there was a U-Haul truck backed up to the house and we got there in time to wave good-bye to the old man as a young man who called him "Pops" drove him away, most likely to a nursing home.

MERCI:  He looked old and frail as he climbed into the car.  A few days later there was a huge pile of his belongings at the curb.  The cats he fed have disappeared.

BUDDY:  Today, we are thankful for a man, whose name we don't even know, but who helped us reunite more than one lost dog with his family.  Mr. Veteran, Sir, we salute you.

Our Friend Jake

Buddy:  Guess we better do tomorrow's post so we can all go to bed tonight.

Cyndi:  I think you mean we better do tomorrow's post before Jan loses her mind tonight.

Micah:  Yes, that's definitely what Buddy meant.

Marcus:  Why, what's the problem?

Rusty:  Jan promised Pam she would make a graphic for us to post for Jake's birthday.  It was a week and a half ago and the two are just getting together on the pictures to use.

Cameron:  So what is the problem?

Sam:  The problem is we have a new, updated version of the old editing program for our new computer and Jan is finding the new techie version has either deleted her favorite tools or hidden them somewhere deep in a maze of choices.

Merci:  Oh, is that all?  I thought you meant we have a problem.  Jan is no stranger to being lost and confused, so there's nothing to worry about.  We can all sleep well tonight.

Percy:  It's already tomorrow, so let's hit the sack.  Sam, you're the tallest.  Hit the light switch for us, would you.

Sam:  Sure.  *turns off light as he heads to bed*

A moment of silence.

Sam: Uh-oh. *pushes button to turn light back on*

Buddy:  I guess we should actually post the birthday graphic before we turn in for the night.

Cyndi:  Don't forget to include the message from Jake's human mom, Pam.

Cameron: And we have to sing.  We always sing for birthdays.

Rusty:  All together now.  Buddy, try to keep the howling to a minimum.

Happy Birthday to you - owoo!
Happy Birthday to you - owoo!
Happy Birthday, one year old Ja-ake - owoo!
Happy Birthday to you - owoo!

Percy:  Okay, now we can go to bed.  Hit the lights again on your way to bed, Sam.

Jake with AJay (top bunk) and Chas.

Jake's First Birthday!

What is more exciting than having your first birthday? "Nothing!", says Jake Koon! He was so happy to finally be a "big boy" and not a baby anymore! His 2 older brothers, AJay and Chas, are happy he is growing up, too, because he is a typical bratty baby brother and picks at them to play all the time! Especially when they are wanting to sleep and they don't like that!

Jake's actual birthday was March 29th, but you know when you are the baby, everyday feels like your birthday because you are special! Jake likes to run and play and swim in the lake -typical lab! He is a very sweet boy when he is not tearing everything up around the house and yard!

Happy Birthday, Jake!
Love, Pam

Flowers for Buddy

Percy: You might remember Buddy had a birthday last Wednesday. Jan came home Thursday afternoon to find the man in the brown shorts (we hope he's wearing long pants now - it's cold!) had delivered a big box of flowers - not for her, but as "A belated happy birthday, Buddy" present.

Percy checking out Buddy's flowers

Buddy:  This is the first time I've ever received flowers.  This is what they looked like before Jan stripped off most of the leaves and put the flowers in water.

Percy:  Buddy thinks he has a secret admirer, but I know who sent those.

Buddy:  Who?

Percy:  I'm not supposed to say.  Jan figured it out, but she said that since he or she didn't sign the card, we shouldn't tattle.

Buddy:  I would like to thank the person responsible.  Since Jan has a black thumb, we're more likely to be holding a funeral for flowers than admiring them in a vase.  Yep, we sure don't see many live flowers around here.

Percy:  We're not seeing much of these.  Jan has them high on a shelf so we can't reach them.  I know; I tried.  We're only allowed to admire them from afar.  She wouldn't even let me taste one.

Buddy:  To change the subject, we have a Sunday Smile for you.  Faline the fawn and Boots the kitten are best friends and cuddle buddies. Enjoy.  And have a good day.

Old Friends

This has been a weekend of sadness.  Saturday night Jan learned of the loss of an old friend (human) of 25 years. First thing Sunday morning, we read of several deaths and illnesses, and then our old friend Dr. Tweety's mom Madeline emailed that Dr. T is headed for the bridge this week. He has rarely blogged in recent years, but his handsome face and humor have been missed.   R.I.P., Dr. Tweety.

Dr. Tweety
We stopped posting on sad news a while ago.  We, like many of you, are having a problem handling the steady stream of illnesses and deaths.  But after this weekend, we decided to do this one post in honor of all  those we've lost over the years.  This year alone we said good-bye to old timers China Cat and Willow, Eric, Charmee of DaisyMae Maus, Andy, Au, Skeezix, Thunder, Rose (human) and Marigold, Junior, Grrreta, Abby of Manx Mnews, Homer the Blind Cat, and ... and ...

That's a lot of tears we've shared with other bloggers. So without further comment, we will share this graphic Jan made for her blog Mercy and Percy

Cameron is 9 and Friends Forever

And MICAH too!

Happy 9th Birthday to our handsome tuxie Cameron.  He's been such a delight to have with us.  We're so glad he wanted to be an indoor cat and chose his friend Merci's home.

Sorry, Jan didn't have time to make Cameron a new graphic.  This is from last year - before Micah's time.

Oh, and in case any of you missed it, Cubby and Clifford from Friends Forever (Florida Furkids) posted on the prize they won in our recent double giveaway.  They even did a YouTube video.

Those doggy liver treats sure look yummy.  You can read about Thankful Thursday with Cubby and Clifford and watch the video on their blog.  It was really nice of them to mention us in their post.

Not A Rembrandt

Good morning, Cameron here to share something nice with you. This was supposed to publish yesterday but our church changed our Wednesday Bible study to Tuesday this week and we got a bit confused when Jan came home and, thinking it was then Wednesday, we scheduled the post for Thursday.  Are you confused?  You've got nothing on us!  And Jan is always confused so if we had asked her what day it was, she would have told us it was already Thursday.

Things have been kind of ... well, discouraging around here for some time, so when Jan got an opportunity to design a photo canvas for our wall, she decided to uplift us (translate that as uplift herself) with a special design, one to remind her we are blessed despite the trials.

She chose some light, cheery colors.  We helped her pick out some photos with a positive theme, so of course we Funny Farmers got a place of honor.  We insisted our Georgia "angel" furries - Jenny, Grayce, Crystal and Cotton - be included since we loved having each as part of our family and each is greatly missed.  Jan tried to take a photo of the finished product but none did it justice, so we're just going to post a copy of the original graphic.  (The canvas is 16 x 20".)

All we have to do now is decide where to hang it.  It will probably end up on the wall facing us as we take turns working at the computer.  It isn't a Rembrandt, but hopefully it will be a positive reminder to Miss I-Can't-Remember-Anything of some positives in her life.

We hope all of you have many positives in your life too.  (There is a second part to this post but it won't arrive until next week.)

As long as this is publishing on Thankful Thursday, we'd like to express our gratitude to a couple of very dedicated and generous neighbors who traveled to Atlanta every week for the past nine years to pick up a truckload of bread and rolls and, occasionally, sweets to distribute to local residents.

"The bread truck" was an old panel truck purchased specifically for the purpose.  One had to step waaaay high to get into it, so they built a ramp with a rail so even the old and disabled could climb inside to "shop" for bread.

One morning a week, folks would gather in a local church parking lot.  Some drove a nice vehicle but were perhaps out of work or with a large family, some from a nearby assisted living home, folks from any walk of life.  Sometimes Jan would see a trash truck stop and the driver get in line.  It didn't matter who you were, if you needed bread, you could help yourself to whatever the limit was that day.  One day all you needed, some days only two loaves of bread and some bagels or English muffins.

When they first started, the bread truck would be crammed chock full of break and goodies, but over time, more groups vied for the same amount of bread and then sometimes the pickings would be mighty, mighty slim. She always came home upbeat when she'd found some rye bread among the loaves and even happier when she could get an extra rye for her brother, Mr. Doug.  They both love it.  Rye is too expensive for our budget, so she's going to miss it.

There was no charge, but Jan always tried to remember to drop a dollar or two into the jar to help with the price of gas. It's sad to think of those who depended on the bread truck to help stretch their budget, but we were so fortunate to have had the help for all these years.

Lamar and Charles, you provided a needed service, and we know if it were possible, you'd continue to make the long drive each week, then stand in the rain, or the cold, or the heat and humidity for hours to distribute it.  We don't eat bread, except when Jan tosses us an occasional crust, but we'd like to thank these men for helping Jan and so many others.  We hope God has a special blessing for them.

Prancer, Pip and Puddles

This week we have the cats from the Prancer Pie blog as our interview guests.  We're sure you'll learn some things about them you didn't know - or have forgotten.  Stop by Mousebreath to read their story, The 4 Ps ... Prancer, Princess, Precious and Princeton.

As many of you know, Princess left for the bridge very unexpectedly last Saturday, so this - her last interview  - is dedicated to her.

Prancer will be visiting the vet Monday and his mom is very nervous after losing Princess last Saturday when she took her to the vet, so purrs would be welcomed.

Today, March 15, is a very special day for the Dynamic Duo of Puddles and Pip.  They have brought so much joy (and mayhem) to our lives that Blogville's Mayoress Madi has declared this Pip and Puddles Appreciation day.  And they are being awarded the following Blogville honors- Pip will be bestowed the title "Blogville King of Cheeseburgers"  and Puddle with the title "Blogville Queen of Merriment and Mayhem."

We are so happy for both of them, knowing full well they deserve this honor - and more.  For example, Puddles should have her driving privileges restored in North or South Carolina (or both?) and anywhere else she's currently only licensed to walk, not drive.

Pip and Puddles, we will never forget the day you came to visit and we had so much fun (and only caused two accidents).  Riding the rails at Six Flags Over Georgia, speed-boating down the Flint River with the wind blowing Buddy's ears, pigging out at an all you can eat catfish buffet, and sharing Cheetos with the feline Funny Farmers (who had enough sense to not ride in a sports car with Puddles driving).  Sometimes we go back and read 6 Flags and 5 Fruitcakes again.  We don't ever want to forget that perfect day. And we only received 3 letters of complaint after you left.  That's probably a record for you two.

Mr. Pip and Nurse Puddles, thank you for being our friends.  We will always treasure your friendship.

Enjoy your special day.  Tomorrow Madi will send you a bill for the party damages to Blogville. :)

Today is another special event at the Tabby Cat Club -  Beware the KittIDES of March!!!  Hosted by Sparky.  Stop by and check it out.

6 Flags and 5 Fruitcakes

As many of you know, Mr. Pip has been unwell for some time and has decided to live his bucket list on a world tour with his nurse Puddles. We are privileged they agreed to come to our small Georgia town for a visit. We didn't think just a tour of local historic buildings would be of much interest to world travelers, so we decided to do something fun.

They arrived very early, as we dogs had a full day planned and we wanted to miss the morning rush hour traffic.  They came bouncing over the curb onto the lawn with big smiles and a trunk full of munchies.

We piled into the car, bounced over the curb, and headed for Six Flags over Georgia, about 75 miles (1 3/4 hours) away.  It was a very uncomfortable trip, as huge Sam and big Buddy had to ride with their heads out opposite windows with little Merci squashed between them in the back seat. (The cats wisely declined to ride in the little car with all of us.)

However, Puddles' reputation as a .... a ... what is the word?... driver preceded her, so we figured we could make it there in less time.  Were we ever right! We only caused two accidents that we know of.  One as we were rolling to a stop at a light next to a couple in a heated argument and Buddy stuck his nose in the passenger window to suggest they get counseling.  The other when ... no, you really don't need to hear that story. Let's just say, Sam nearly swallowed a big bug but manged to spit it at a passing motorist instead.  (We were passing the motorist, not .vice versa)

When we arrived, we had to wait a few minutes for Sam and Buddy to unfold from the back seat and stretch.

We took a quick look around, then decided to start off with a tame ride, the Superman Ultimate Flight, which riders take lying on the stomach traveling head first.

Puddles:  This is too tame.  What do they have more daring?

Pip:  Well, we could let you drive it, Puddles.  That would certainly be daring.

We tried the Ninja  Rollercoaster next. Whee-hoo!

Disclaimer: The following 2 videos were not taken by us but by two-leggers who shared their rides with the world.

Puddles: That's more like it but it's still too tame.

Merci:  Are you out of your mind?

Pip:  It wasn't too bad, Merci.

To make Puddles happy, we then rode the Georgia Cyclone, a wooden roller coaster.

If the video doesn't play, click here.

Puddles:  Whee!  That was bone-jarring fun.  Let's do it again.

Pip:  I think it jarred my bladder into my tailbone.  I need to find a tree.

Actually, after that ride, we all needed to find a tree.  And then a smiling Japanese tourist snapped a photo of us in front of the Ninja Rollercoaster as a memento of this day.  As if we ever could forget it.

Back: Sam & Buddy
Front: Puddles, Merci & Pip

We rode the Mindbender, Batman, Goliath, the Log Jamboree and even visited the Haunted House.   Pip didn't want to miss anything and Puddles couldn't get enough of the exciting rides.  Amazingly, none of us barfed on any of the rides or riders, although Puddles did manage to spill a bag of Cheetos on the head of a guy in the seat ahead of us. (We were racing straight downhill at the time.)

The ride back was .... well, eventful.  But we survived.  And so did the cow.  She is likely traumatized for life, though, and will never try to cross a road again.

Our next adventure was a leisurely ride down the Flint River.

At least it was leisurely while Buddy was driving.  Then Puddles said she has always wanted to drive a boat. Merci protested, but too late.  Puuuuuuuuuuudles, slow down, you'll get us arrested!  Poor Sam is so tall and top-heavy he nearly fell overboard.

We returned the boat and headed to our last stop - Riverbend Restaurant.  Surrounded by woods and with a beautiful view of the river we had just survived, we sat down to an all you can eat catfish dinner.  We had a few strange looks.  Our napkins were neatly tucked into our collars and we used our claws to de-bone the fish..  Seriously, you'd think the diners had never seen dogs eat in the restaurant before.
Boy, were Pip and Puddles surprised and happy to find as long as they kept eating, plate after plate of piled catfish would keep appearing on the table.  Pip put a stop to a rather loud disagreement at the next table.  Two boys were arguing over who got the last catfish on the plate.  Pip walked over over, grabbed it and tossed it to Puddles. End of problem.

Then we headed home so they could visit with our cat siblings, the Funny Farmer Felines.  We stopped on the way for some primo nip so they would soon forget about missing the catfish deal.

All too soon, Pip and Puddles had to leave. We traded sniffs and pawtaps and then waved good-bye as Puddles hit the gas pedal and the low car spurted across the lawn, bounced over the curb and raced up the street.

Pip and Puddles, thank you for visiting us on your world tour.  We wish you could have stayed longer, but we know you have so many other places to travel.

Mr. Pip, we hope you have lots and lots of time to complete your bucket list. We love you - and Miss Puddles too.

Nurse Puddles, thank you for not driving up a wall or off a cliff while you were here.  (We'll keep mum about some of the events of the day so you won't be arrested.) Please continue to take good care of Pip.  We know you will, but have you considered hiring a chauffeur?  We're not sure a dog with a heart condition should be riding with you. On the other hand, Pip has evidently become so accustomed to your driving, he barely noticed those wild, heart-stopping rides we went on today.

We hate to end a fun post on a sad note, but our dear friend Asta will be having surgery Friday.
Asta can use your prayers for a positive outcome!  Her mom and dad are very worried about what the surgery might find. We hope for good news.
