Team Cat AND Team Dog
MARCUS: We are friends and siblings here, so we support one another. But when a competition begins, we go all out to win. Sam and I are cheering on our canine team.
SAM: Hey, wait, those double crossing felines switched our sign. We are not #Team Cat. We are #Team Dog.
MERCI: There, #Team Dog. This is more like it. Seriously, we are cheering on the felines. And vice versa.
RUSTY: Cyndi was right beside me but she took off when the camera appeared. Guess I have to represent #Team Cat by myself.
PERCY: I suppose you are wondering what the team signs represent. Yesterday we posted Dogs Vs Cats Lucy Bowl about the Lucy Pet Foundation commercial which will air on the Hallmark;s Kitten Bowl this Sunday, February 1 at 12/1c.
CYNDI: The Lucy Pet Foundation is also having a photo contest. Which team are we on? Well, obviously we're on #Team Cat AND on #Team Dog. Who do we want to win? Why all of us, of course!
MICAH: But more than that we would like other furries to benefit. The Lucy Pet Foundation is named for a small dog named Lucy who had five pups shortly after she was rescued. They all got a good home.
CAMERON: Not every pet has that opportunity. Many die in shelters. The LPF has a mission to reduce pet overpopulation.
BUDDY: Yesterday we posted a teaser video for you. Other Super Bowl commercials are being released on video before the Super Bowl, so Lucy Pet Foundation has released a full version of their commercial. We still don't have cable TV, so we hope this doesn't mean you won't invite us to your Kitten Bowl party on Sunday.
Full version of the Lucy Bowl commercial.
If the video doesn't play, click here.
This post is brought to you by the rocking furries at the Funny Farm to draw attention to the Lucy Pet Foundation and its efforts on behalf of homeless pets. LPF provided the video. Our blog will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $500 donation for a 501c3 rescue of our choice.

A Picture Is Worth
Rusty: Well, yesterday we were going to write a proper post for today, but life happened and now Jan is hopping mad!
Marcus: Hopping mad? I haven't seen her hopping. Creaking and groaning in this too-cold weather, yes, but not hopping.
Sam: That's just an expression, Marcus. It means Jan is very upset about something. She's not actually jumping up and down, red-faced and shouting swear words.
Marcus: She's not hopping mad because I ripped a hole in the brand new mattress for my crate and pulled out the stuffing while she was gone yesterday, is she?
Cameron: Let's just say you are lucky she has something else to concentrate on. She is very unhappy with you.
Marcus: So what is she hopping mad about?
Percy: After she started the computer and downloaded email yesterday, she left the room, came back and our DSL modem was dead. She did everything to revive it but it had lilies growing out of its chest. It was that dead!
Marcus: Why would she be hopping because the modem died. It wasn't faking, was it? I mean, when it's your time, it's your time, whether you're a lamp or a modem.
Micah: Jan knows things die all the time. Usually when you need them the most, but she's not hopping mad because it died.
Merci: Ordinarily she would have to order a new modem and wait for it to arrive so we could get back online, but, fortunately, she had a reconditioned backup available. This one didn't have a software CD with it, so Jan was relieved she wouldn't have to install our Internet Service Provider's (ISP which shall remain nameless for the moment) software like she did in 2005. It caused her a bunch of problems and she uninstalled it many years ago.
Marcus: I still don't see what the problem is. It sounds like everything worked out well.
Buddy: Jan started to install the modem and decided to call tech support to walk her through it since she didn't have any instructions. She reached a nice lady who told her that although our ISP COULD set us up without their software, they won't unless the software won't install. So Jan was forced to download their software from the internet.
Marcus: I still don't see the problem.
Cyndi: It opened IE. Jan never uses IE, only Firefox and then not only did the software not install, it sent the computer into toxic shock and it went black, gray, had flashing icons in the tray, opened Firefox and Thunderbird, tried to get Jan to take her av bar off IE, etc., etc., etc.
Marcus: So what happened then?
Percy: The lady said, "It's locked up your computer. You're going to have to do a hard shutdown." (Translation - crash!) There were problems getting it back up again since it didn't shut down properly.
Buddy: And after it was up, the lady cheerfully said, "This has never happened before." Really? So why do they only do set up from their end when the software won't install? You guessed it. She finished the setup (without the software) while Jan checked to be sure the ISP's software was NOT installed on the computer.
Rusty: Jan is hopping mad because she went through their software problems in 2005 with a different computer. How up to date is their technology and why do they try to force their software onto customers' computers when it isn't necessary and can wreak such havoc?
Buddy: Jan won't let us repeat what she said she'd like to do to our ISP for this needless terrifying experience. But she did say a picture is worth a thousand words.
Note: Earl and his human mom were featured in Dog's Monthly magazine in May and thus are 1 of 12 entries in the Best Friend contest regarding their special bond and story. We all know how strong the bond is between a dog and his human. If you would, please stop by and read his short post and vote for Earl and his human. All it takes is a one-time short email. The information is there. The prize is a 6 month supply of dog food, which he will donate to a dog rescue. His blog is Earl's World. (He doesn't know we are adding this to our post, but we think it would be wonderful if he won.)

Old Time Communication
Merci:
We were looking through our posted photos for this year and discovered most of the more recent ones show all of us stuffing our faces, so we grabbed this one of me. And that's how I got selected as spokesfurry of the day.
That's okay. I don't mind.
This post is for Jan since she has been around since communication was accomplished with hieroglyphics carved on a wall.. (Uh, I wonder if she'll get upset with me for giving away her age?) She definitely remembers this old-time machine. She's told us stories of spraining her thumb on one of them a time or dozen.
Perhaps your human can relate? Anyway, we hope you all have a Sunday Smile.
The boys had been up in the attic together helping with some cleaning. The kids uncovered an old manual typewriter and asked her, "Hey Mom, what's this?"
"Oh, that's an old typewriter," she answered, thinking that would satisfy their curiosity.
"Well, what does it do?" they queried.
"I'll show you," she said and returned with a blank piece of paper. She rolled the paper into the typewriter and began striking the keys, leaving black letters of print on the page.
"WOW!" they exclaimed, "That's really cool...but how does it work like that? Where do you plug it in?"
“There is no plug," she answered. "It doesn't need a plug."
"Then where do you put the batteries?" they persisted.
"It doesn't need batteries either," she continued.
"Wow! This is so cool!" they exclaimed. "Someone should have invented this a long time ago!"
We hope you have bookmarked this link and are voting daily for our mutual blogging buddy, Kjelle Bus from Sweden.

Kjelle, Leigh and Ms Klutz
Percy: We know Jan would rather we not tell this story, but it's too good to keep to ourselves. We've told you a number of times how klutzy Jan is. She just keeps getting better and better at it.
Cyndi: We have all been playing musical beds quite a bit since it got cold and Jan was taking pictures of us yet again when ....
Rusty: ... she tripped over a surge protector strip and ...
Micah: ... you don't want to know.
Cameron: What do you mean they don't want to know? Of course they do!
Buddy: If they don't, we'll tell them anyway. Jan tripped ...
Merci: ... and her arm flew out and the camera flew across the room and ...
Sam: ... it hit the wood over the fireplace and fell onto the concrete with a ...
*C-R-A-S-H!*
Cameron: What was that? I nearly jumped out of my fur.
Rusty: Oh, that was just Sam's tail knocking the decorative tin off the table again.
Percy: But that's what happened. The camera crashed to the floor and ...
Cyndi: ... scared the crap out of us, is what it did!
Micah: Jan just stood there staring at the fireplace, then walked over and picked up the camera ...
Merci: ... aimed it at Buddy, stared at the strange colors floating around the viewfinder, and clicked the shutter.
Buddy: Surprisingly it still takes pictures, sort of. Not bad for a camera that flew 4 feet across the room and crashed 3 1/2 feet to the hard floor.
Sam: Yes, Jan measured the distances. She still can't believe the camera is even in one piece, let alone trying to continue on nonchalantly..
Percy: Jan says she hopes it will take half-decent photos until we figure out how to steal ... um, I mean get a new camera.
Micah: We wish we could share a picture of Jan's face when she realized what had happened, but you'll have to use your imagination. Or you could try tripping your human while she's carrying a cup of hot coffee.

It will seem like nothing happened but the number on the bottom left will have changed and if you click twice, it will tell you you've already voted. Of course, you won't know what it's telling you unless you speak Swedish, but the first time we thought it didn't work and we clicked twice, then ran the popup text through Google Translate. It said we'd already voted. Oh, well good thing we don't speak the language or that would have been embarrassing. :)
We hope you will save the link and vote daily. The contest ends December 31st. We vote daily.
And we got some exciting news from an ex-cat blogger. Many of you will remember the blogs Rascal and Little Cat Zee. Leigh has been blogging for quite a while on 5 Acres & A Dream. She has just published her first book, titled 5 Acres & A Dream The Book: The Challenges of Establishing A Self-Sufficient Homestead.
You can read more about the book on the blog 5 Acres & A Dream. Leigh is giving away a copy of her book and it's easy to enter. The link to entry information is in her post. Good luck on winning.

Birthday, Contest, TNR Seminar
Today is Gracie's 4th birthday and she's having a party at the Tabby Cat Club.
Happy Birthday, Gracie. We're grateful for your friendship and look forward to helping you celebrate many more birthdays.
Have you gone by Fur Everywhere and joined the "Name Our (New) Blog Contest" yet? Well, what are you waiting for? We made a submission. You're next.
We're including this poster from Toby Franks for those of you who live in the Akron, Ohio area. This is a good chance to learn from experienced TNR (Trap Neuter Return) trappers about this humane and effective method for controlling feral cat populations.
It's a PNG file and will supposedly by easy to post to Facebook, so feel free to print ... copy ... share the flyer.

CEO Clooney & Sec Neytiri Chat
We Funny Farmer Felines are pleased to have Clooney and Neytiri of Clonney's Num-Num Fund as our guests today for our Mousebreath interview. If you want to know what secrets they divulged, go by and read their interview CEO Clooney, Secretary Neytiri & Assistant Duckie. And then stop by their blog to say hello.
Oh, and we don't want to forget to remind you all that voting for the Tabby Cat Club Halloween contest will be available until midnight Sunday. There are 2 categories - Real and Photoshopped. One vote per category. You had to be a TCC member to participate, but you don't have to be a TCC member to vote. Voting polls are in the upper right sidebar.
Our Percy, Rusty & Micah weren't given computer time to participate so we were all thinking of doing our own Halloween post. Last year we made Jan a bag lady. This year we are thinking about making her a witch since she's not good about sharing the computer time. But then she's the only one who around here that can pop the tops on the food cans, so we'll have to do some more thinking on that.
All of us Funny Farmers have a question. Many of you are involved with either a no kill shelter or some form of rescue, so even though you don't live in the state of Georgia, you might know someone who does live here and is familiar with the specifics of rescue laws in the state of Georgia. (An attorney familiar with this subject would be nice to ask but we don't know one and we have some questions.)
We don't mean just someone familiar with the laws on the Dept of Ag site. Those laws are for all shelters in the state, but local shelters can add to them. We are interested in the specifics of legally pulling animals from any Georgia shelter.. We're not going to explain, but we hope if you can think of anyone, you'll let us know. There's a mailbox in the sidebar with our email address.
Have a good weekend!

Rusty Snoopervises and 3 to the Bridge
Hey, Rusty here. I'm investigating the contents of a box that arrived recently. Percy and Sam are always first to volunteer for snoopervising duty on new packages, but this time I beat them to it.
We won a recent Guess the Cats and Win contest over at Skeezix's blog and the prize arrived recently - a neat bag of goodies. Skeezix even threw in a little something for the woofies to chew, but we suspect his Food Lady may be responsible for that..
Yes, a very nice bag of goodies, Skeez. Thanks.
Jan: ** Yes, Rusty, I'm done with the photos. You may have the toy now.**
Sadly, the blogosphere lost another 3 kitties recently - two yesterday. We didn't know Hakuna, but we've known Brandi and Possum for a long while and they will be greatly missed. Their moms are now without a furry companion and this is hard for both of them. We send lots of purrs and pawhugs!
Possum of Purr-sonally Speaking went to join his sisfur Pixie.
Hakuna of Lost in the Cheese Aisle blog died October 14.

Drowsy Duo on St Paddy Day
Yes, we are all celebrating St. Paddy Day here on the Funny Farm. What? Oh, glad you noticed two of our members are missing. Well, not exactly missing. They just aren't included in the photo.
Why? Really nice of you to ask. Because they have their own photo. We entered them in the Doggy Division of Brian's 2012 Nimbus Memorial St. Patrick's Day Photo Contest.
And we just learned the drowsy duo won 2nd place. The complete list of winners is now posted on Brian's blog. Thanks, Brian, for hosting the contest.
View the Doggy Division entries.
View the Kitty Category entries.
Happy St. Paddy's Day to ye all. Now if you'll excuse us, we're going to see if there's anything green in the fridge. Preferably something naturally green.
Oh, we almost forgot. Rusty & Percy are members of The Tabby Cat Club and the club is having a can you name these kitties guessing game. We're pretty sure Percy's lovely - strike lovely - handsome eyes are included but we won't tell you which one he is. (Hint, hint: A, B, C, E, oops we missed a letter.)
PS - If anyone is having a problem leaving a comment since we changed our comment setting a couple of weeks or so ago to Registered Users (includes Open ID), please email to let us know. jansfunnyfarm AT gmail DOT com

Cracked Nut Chipmunks
Uh-oh, Rusty's plan to occupy his doghouse seems to have hit a snag. The Cracked Nut Chipmunk Command heard he has a stash of free pecans and acorns. They marched into the pen last night to help. (We don't believe the CNCC or the NNS care about his cause. We think they just came for the freebies.)
Rusty's volunteer troops multiplied and he's now run out of pecans to feed them. Sounds like he's ready to surrender before he has a mutiny on his paws and he's trapped in his doghouse.
Any of you have a white flag for Rusty to wave? Or some pecans you'd be willing to donate to his cause? Rusty has occupied through the wind and rain and without any privacy for his litter pan.
We hope his occupation doesn't end in disaster. As nutty as Rusty is, we were secretly hoping he would win.
Voting is open for the 2012 Nimbus Memorial St. Patrick’s Day Photo Contest over at Brian's. There are two categories, kitty and doggy. We entered Buddy and Sam in the doggy contest but didn't get a kitty entry made in time for that category. Be sure to visit Brian and take a look at the entries. And while you're there, even if you don't vote for our entry, vote.

Peeps are Flakes
Hey, Cotton here. This is my first post of 2012. We had a nice Christmas and holiday season. Hope 2012 entered peacefully for you and will be a good year for all of us.
2012 entered quietly around here, but Monday, the 2nd, turned into one of those what else could go wrong days? By evening, Jan was so frustrated she nearly threw our tv out the door.cause she had reached the "if it doesn't work, it's trash" limit. She did finally get it working again so we do have a tv. Sort of. We only get one major channel, one oldies channel and PBS (Public Broadcasing). But that's all we got before Jan "fixed" it, so we figure we came out even on that.
The problem was a cable had disconnected and Jan couldn't figure out where it went, not even with the directions (diagrams) to the tv and to the converter. The threat to throw the tv out the door came after she tripped over the cord to the light she was using while trying to reach the magnifying glass and went sailing across the living room Ouch! When she finally got the cable hooked up, she realized the reason she couldn't find the cables in the converter diagram was because they belonged to the antenna, a totally separate piece of equipment.
After laughing at Jan's frantic phone messages, her brother came by the next day and set up the DVD player he gave her. We think he was protecting it from flying out the door since the instructions were a diagram but Jan had no idea how to decode it. It ended up plugged into the front of the tv and it works by pressing "GAME" for the tv and getting a separate screen. Jan admits she wouldn't have figured that out. She didn't even know "GAME" was on the remote.
What inspired us to write this was reading about the My Peep Is A Flake Contest going on in Blogville right now. This story isn't entered, but believe us, our peep is a flake too! (We mean this in a most loving way, of course, because Jan rarely does anything flaky! **wink, wink**) We've written enough stories about her mishaps.
We stopped by Sarge's blog and read why his dad is a flake and .. well, you have got to read it. Percy almost rolled off the desk from laughing.
And yesterday we read why Puddles Mum Is A Flake. Her story reminded us of the time Jan's keys got hooked on what she loaded into the back of the station wagon and she ended up locked out. Fortunately, she had forgotten to lock the driver's door earlier, so she was able to crawl over the seats to reach her keys. Puddle's story is funnier.
We're going to nap until Jan is ready to clean closets or something equally dangerous. (There isn't much work space.) She did manage to dig out her winter clothes yesterday. (Didn't winter start last month?) We'll see what entertainment she provides today.
Have a fun day.
PS - Oh, and be sure to read Sparkle's post on Desperate Situation at PurrEver Ranch Sanctuary! These folks and the cats at the sanctuary have become a target for cat-hating neighbors. Some have been killed by dogs or shot on their own property. They are in desperate need of an immediate place to move the cats. PPS - We were very sorry to learn Stryder of Kellykat's Korner was helped to the bridge yesterday. We were sad that Kelly stopped blogging after Sugar died, but sometimes humans lose heart after a loss. Even though she isn't blogging anymore, a message can be left on her blog.
Even if you can't help, you can pass on the link because someone somewhere can help. Thanks.

Cameron Sings Zzzzzzs
Hey, Cameron here to continue with our never-to-be-caught-up posts. This is my photo that tied for 2nd place in Kat's Kats 2nd Annual Everycat Sleeping Contest. Like Tober's poster contest, it happened in November and we're just posting about it. **sigh** Jan really needs to get a life so we can access the computer more often.
Anyway, this is my award. Thanks, Kat & the Teenage Mutant Ninja Kitty Horde.
As soon as I finish this post, I intend to begin practicing for next year's contest. But I think something soft and warm would be more appropriate for sleeping in winter.
I also have a season appropriate video for you. This is a Christmas Flash Mob performance by Journey of Faith at the South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach. .Feel free to sing along. We all did.
If the video doesn't play, click here.
And now, I'm off to practice sleeping. **Big yawn. Slow stretch. Zzzzzzz.**

Cotton, Tober, Mayzie and Rescues
Hey, Cotton here. I'm posing in the box for the Martha Stewart/Petsmart Designer Feeding Station we won from Skeezix recently.. Jan said it's my bowl because I'm the oldest and I prefer to eat on the washing machine instead of the dryer. I even get my own little bowl of water so I don't have to drink from the large bowls on the floor if I don't want to.
Jan hated that she had to clean pieces of cat food out of the washing machine before she can wash laundry., so she was happy we won this. She especially loves the silicone feeding mat. It keeps my food and water from being knocked over or being vibrated off the washer or counter when the machine is having a tantrum, which is every time it's on.
Here I am debating. Am I hungry or thirsty? It sure is nice to have my own feeding station.
Wait, what's this! Percy is sneaking around my bowl. Jaaaaaan!
Well, I had my own feeding station for an hour or so. Then the other kitties found it and now it's "ours." And the small bowls just aren't big enough for multi cats, so Jan replaced it with larger bowls. But we get to use the mat. Jan loves it!
Tober the Thorntown Library Cat held a poster contest for Tocktober, his found month. Jan helped us make a poster and we entered the blogging friends category.. We're excited because we won our category. Check them out. There are some talented submissions from kids in their categories. .
This week is Mayzie's Rescue Me Week, held in honor of Grampa J who passed away in May. Mayzie is going all out for Grampa J.
THEN – oh gosh, I LUVS this part – the very next week, we’ll draw FIVE names outta everybuddy who pawticipated. And each of those 5 furends will get to choose a rescue for us to donates 100 green papers to! That’s 5 rescues that’ll gets 100 green papers each!
We decided to feature rabbits in need of homes. We found two good places in central GA so we are going to feature some rabbits from both.
These are Mama B, Baby B & Little B. They were turned into PAWS Humane in Columbus, GA when their owner could no longer care for them. Contact information for PAWS Humane is on their Petfinder page. Just click on their names above.
Smudge & Dutchy are at the Georgia House Rabbit Society in Marietta, GA. Smudge and Dutchy are both rescues, one from Marietta and one from Nashville, TN, and need a forever home. HRS does not sell rabbits, they only adopt them out to a good home. (We were not aware Petfinder shares their pet listings with eBay classifieds.) Click on their names above to read more about them and to find contact information.

Snoozing and Deviled Ham
Gracie talked us into entering Kat's Kats' 2nd Annual Sleeping Contest. It was extended until the 7th, so if you haven't entered yet, you still have time. It's for cats only, though, and Buddy is sad he didn't get to enter his sleeping picture.
We tossed a piece of kibble to choose which of us to enter but Sam caught and ate it before it could land near one of us. So we decided to just vote. And Cameron's photo was chosen.
Here's Cameron snoozing away in a we-don't-have-a-clue what this is position.
In case any of you haven't yet met Pyewacket the piglet, stop by and say hello. And don't miss her Halloween costume - deviled ham.

Halloween Spooktacular Voting
Voting has begun at Hansel's Halloween Spooktacular contest and will run through November 1st and 2nd. We have two entries in the contest but we don't want you to vote for us just because we are friends. We want you to vote for whichever entry you like best in each category.. So go vote and have some fun.
Buddy Says No to Costume is Buddy's entry in Hansel's Halloween Spooktacular. We figure it only takes one glance to get the message Buddy is sending in this photo.
Bag Lady Jan is Jan's entry. If furry faces can turn red with embarrassment, ours are flaming. We're thinking of disowning her. But then who would we pick on?
By the way, if you happen to need a few plastic bags, we have a good idea where you can find some.

Honorable Mention
Jan submitted an entry to the BlogPaws T-Shirt Design Contest in July. She thought she would be competing against some real graphic artists - those who have the knowledge, talent and software, plus an extra dollop of creativity. She was correct.
Yesterday Jan received some good news from BlogPaws co-founder Tom Collins. Her t-shirt design for BlogPaws received an Honorable Mention.
Buddy,, well-known for his pop into the mind and out of the mouth remarks, counted the designs on the page - 1 winner, 4 Runners Up and 5 Honorable Mentions - and innocently asked, "So there were only ten entries?" (Pay no attention to Buddy. We have no idea how many entries there were.)
Entries were supposed to reflect BlogPaws. So Jan did some thinking. The house filled with smoke. (Okay, we're exaggerating about the smoke.)
To Jan, the central theme of BlogPaws is the animals, so she dug into photos she's taken of pets that have gone through the local shelter and picked 3 dogs and 3 cats. She misunderstood the instructions about colors and made her design black and white, but an artistic friend agreed it was more dramatic in black and white.
We would like to congratulate the winner, Papua Piig. (The pet's name, not the human's.) And congratulations to all the winners. You can view the10 designs at BlogPaws 2011 T-Shirt Design Contest.
From the beginning Jan had a Plan B. She emailed Tom Collins and was assured there would not be any conflict if she removed the BlogPaws text and put the design in her Zazzle store.
Tom graciously recalls, “When Jan asked about re-purposing her design to promote the adoption of shelter pets, we saw it as a wonderful added benefit from the contest, Since ‘Be the Change for Pets’ is one of the core themes of our BlogPaws conferences and community, Jan’s creative talent and her commitment to helping pets fit right in!”
There is a design with a light background for dark apparel which can also be used on light colors. (The actual background of this graphic is transparent.) If you'd like, you can view them both here.
Thanks, BlogPaws, for holding the t-shirt contest. It was fun. Well, it was fun for us. Jan had to work.
And speaking of work, Jan has a project relating to our designs, which will consume a lot of her time for a while - not to mention hinder our blogging time. Plus, she has been preparing to reopen another blog soon with some new goodies. So we might not be able to leave many comments for a while. Rest assured, though, we will be hovering around Blogsville, as Amber DeWeenie calls it.
Update: We heard from Tom Collins a couple hours after posting this. He tried to leave a comment and Blogger wouldn't let him. But he posted this on BlogPaw's Facebook page -
Check out Jan's creative repurposing of her design to promote shelter pet adoption! What a great, unexpected payoff for our contest!
And no, Buddy, there were not "only ten entries"! We had a tough time getting the winning group down to ten finalists and you should be very proud of Jan. ;-D
Thanks, Tom.

Romeo's Get One, Give One
Hey, Cameron here with some good news of a chance to win cash or food for your favorite cat non profit. Many of you already know Romeo the cat blogger. He is hosting a contest in conjunction with Royal Canin and PETCO, and if you win, you could win a $1,000 donation to your favorite shelter/rescue. The designated shelter/rescue of the two second prize winners will each get 1/2 pallet or 3,696 cans of cat food.
You can enter the contest by leaving a comment with the name of a shelter/rescue and why you chose it. Our favorite shelter/rescue is more of a a dog rescue, therefore it wouldn't be eligible. We asked Brain of Brian's Home and Brian's Forever Home for the name of his favorite shelter/rescue. He said he has "grown very fond of Angela's Angels Cat Rescue in Columbia, NC." So, out of respect for Brian's hard work and dedication to helping cats find a forever home, we're going to submit Angela's Angels Pet Rescue as our choice, in case we win.
This weekend, July 8 - 10, PETCO is offering every customer (while supplies last) two FREE cans of Adult Instinctive or Ultra Light Royal Canin adult feline wet formula for their cats – no purchase necessary. For each can given away to you, Royal Canin will donate an additional can to the PETCO Foundation, which helps support approximately 7,000 local animal welfare groups across the country to help find homes for more than 200,000 adoptable animals every year
You can increase your entries, and thus your chances to be the grand prize winner, by helping to spread the word on the “Get One, Give One” promotion. For specific details, visit Romeo's post on the contest.
If you help promote the giveaway, don't forget to email Carolyn and tell her what you did so she can give you the earned entries.
Unfortunately, the nearest PETCO is over 40 miles away so we won't be able to participate by "claiming" our two free cans. We hope you can.

Elk Rescues Marmot and WBCL
Hey, Cotton here. Your humans are probably gearing up for the 4th of July holiday weekend and leaving you out of their plans. Jan plans to work around the house this weekend, so we're happy she's not including us. Yesterday we read a surprising interspecies article on an elk rescuing a marmot drowning in his water trough. In case you doubt, there are photos.
We kitties were given an opportunity to test the new World's Best Cat Littler new lavender scent clumping litter. Unfortunately for Jan, we wouldn't use it, because the lavender scent was too strong. Jan gave us one litter box with the WBCL and one with our regular litter. Although some of us liked the regular WBCL when we tried it a couple of years or so ago, in this test, we all used our regular litter.
Jan didn't like it either because the strong scent caused her breathing problems. (We think this must have been a defective bag because other kitties have blogged about how much they love this new lavender scent product.)
We mention WBCL today because we want to let you know WBCL is having a contest.
Two cat owners will win -
A 1-year supply of WBCL.
A $200 Target gift card.
To enter:
Buy a black and red Multiple Cat Clumping Formula bag with the $1 instant coupon at your local Target store.
Take a picture to show you purchased it at Target.
Follow submission directions.
You can find more detailed information on their Clearing the Air blog. The submission deadline is July 10, 2011.
Note: The WBCL regular clumping formula is also sold at Target but is not included in the contest.
WBCL sent us a small bag of the litter to try, but we were not paid or influenced for this post, or even asked to review it. We are just sharing our personal experience with the new WBCL. We've included the contest information in case one or more of you might want to enter - and hopefully one of our readers might win.

Cyndi Unveils Merci
Hello again. I'm Cyndi. We don't have much news. We have a post we need to do but Jan just took the photos and doesn't have the energy to do them right now.
We love this portrait of Merci from Ann of Zoolatry. Jan wishes she had just a portion of the talent so many bloggers do. We need to change our header and save it for next year since Valentine's Day has passed but we'll take a moment to again mention it was made by Gracie. At the rate Jan is moving it should be down by Christmas or New Year's.
And, yes, she messed with the template yesterday. She was trying to cheer herself up but the template maker doesn't cooperate for our blog like it did for the CB Auction blog. If it loads slow, let us know.
And we would also like to remind you there is a photo contest fundraiser going on over at Bugsy & Graccie's (not the Gracie of our header) for their vet bills. We hope you will go by and check it out and enter. It started yesterday and runs through February 21.Photo contests are fun.

Cameron Chats, Merci Wears Hat
But first, we're a little late with this news but Judi "hatted" Merci Wednesday. You can see Judi's graphic of our beautiful Merci in her winter walking hat on Sammy & Andy's blog. Thank you, Judi.
And also we want to let those of you who haven't already heard know that there is a photo contest coming up soon and you can to be picking out your entry so you don't miss it. The contest is to raise some funds for Bugsy and Gracie's vet bills from their recent illnesses.

The contest rules are posted on The Happy Cat Family blog. We hope you will stop by to check it out and plan to enter. Good luck.
So, now for the cute video I promised you. If you have seen this one before, it's worth another look. None of us have ever heard of a pet penguin before we first saw this video, but evidently at least one family has one.
If the video doesn't play, click here.
