Marcus Filches, Percy Models
MICAH: Uh-oh, looks like someone is in trouble again. Do you remember this picture from last year?
SAM: Jan thought she had finally resolved the Marcus eating the cats' food problem. All has been well for ... a week?
MERCI: Tonight she suddenly heard the thud of something heavy landing on the kitchen floor and she immediately knew what that something heavy was.
RUSTY: She raced into the living room just as Marcus dropped onto a bed and tried to look innocent by not licking his mouth.
CYNDI: She sped into the kitchen and checked the cat food bowl. Yep, licked clean and still wet. She raced back to the living room, pointed to the crate, and Marcus walked into it with his head down but a glint in his eye.
BUDDY: He's a chip off the young Buddy. I was quite good at the same sport when I was young and agile. Jan can't figure out how he got up on the dryer again. Way to go, Marcus! Keep her confused.
MARCUS: I don't know why Jan always blames me. I was only licking my mouth because I was wondering what was for dinner.
PERCY: We wrote yesterday's post on the Old New and New New Coats Wednesday evening. Surprisingly, Jan did try to adjust Buddy's and Merci's coats to better fit them. However ...
SAM: As some of you were aware, in between coats, Jan lost a needle and thread on the desk. She was afraid one of us would find the needle and get hurt.
CYNDI: So she kept looking. Last evening she decided to try one more time. It was not on or under anything on the desk. It was not on the floor.
MICAH: She was tempted to go look in the refrigerator, just in case, but she had not left the chair while she was sewing.
RUSTY: She picked up Buddy's coat and saw the glint of a needle. It was a needle and black thread "glued" to a black velcro strap.
MERCI: A couple of days ago, we saw a drawing from the One Drawing Daily blog. We stopped by and volunteered to be one of the daily drawings.
CYNDI: And yesterday Thomas Clausen sent us the link to Percy's Little Cat in Profile drawing.
BUDDY: We really like the drawing and Thomas Clausen said it would be okay to post it on our blog. He also has a website, Pet Portraits by Thomas Clausen.
RUSTY: We're not doing a review. We just think you'd enjoy visiting to view some of his work. And perhaps you know someone who would like a pet portrait for Christmas?
MARCUS: You too can volunteer to be one of his daily drawing models.
SAM: It's a good thing Thomas didn't pick Marcus as his subject. He'd have had to draw Marcus with his mouth full of cat food.
PERCY: This is the photo he used. It's from our Introducing Taylor post.
It's time for the weekly Friday Pet Parade blog hop hosted by Rascal and Roscoe. It is co-hosted by Bionic Basil, Barking From the Bayou and Love is being owned by a husky.

Angel Pip Magnets
SAM: Last month we won fourth place in the 500th post drawing at Angel Pip's and Ruby's. We won two magnets from their Zazzle store.
RUSTY: They arrived at the end of January but a few days later Jan almost knocked herself out flying in an enclosed space.
CYNDI: The flying was okay. It was the landing that was the problem. We've been kept busy waiting on her ever since.
MICAH: And we do mean waiting. She is slow as molasses so very little has been getting done around here.
"Nice dogs don't always finish first (or second or third), but they do finish eventually."
SAM: This is the magnet for us dogs. We're sharing it with the cats, but it's really our magnet.
"The show must go on ... even when you forget your lines and can't find the stage."
MERCI: We'll give you one guess who this one is for! Yes, you guessed correctly. It's for Jan. She is getting more forgetful. We love the magnets. Jan is going to put hers on the metal desk. We want ours on the fridge. Thank you, Angel Pip and Ruby, for the lovely magnets.
BUDDY: Ann from Zoolatry sent Jan this Valentine card showing the bump on her head but her two black eyes are covered. Our internet provider had an outage Saturday and this is our first chance to post this. It made Jan smile.
PERCY: Friday's episode with Marcus and Merci yanking her about to get at the aggressive dog that was coming after them has really aggravated the pain in her face, neck and legs. She can barely bend her knee to step into the shower again.
CAMERON: That made 3 aggressive dog encounters in one week. One direct attack and two close calls. We all seem to have lost our sense of humor during these last two weeks. Do you think Walmart might have some on sale soon?

Winner and Halloween Safety
Sam: Hey, Sam, Merci and Buddy here -
Merci: * taps Sam's leg* Excuse me, Sam, but you forgot Rusty.
Sam" But Rusty isn't a dog. He just came along in case there were cat treats.
Merci: Nevertheless, he's here; he needs to be acknowledged.
Buddy: What these two are taking the long way around to say is that today we announce the winner of the coupon for the free can of the new Iams Shakeables treats for dogs.
Rusty: Yes, the woofies went to Random.org to choose a winner. It picked #6, and that number was assigned to Ruckus the Eskie from the blog of the same name., Hey, Ruckus, as soon as you send us your mailing address, we will get the coupon off to you.
Buddy: Hey, Rusty, I was supposed to make the announcement.
Rusty: I'm sorry. You were all busy trying to cajole Jan into some more treats. I didn't think we should keep entrants waiting. Especially since Cameron has been waiting patiently to give his news.
Cameron: Hey, I have a PSA announcement for you today. Halloween is fast approaching and we know a number of blogs are hosting a party for all their blogging furry friends, so we thought we would help you all get safely through Spook Day. Actually, this information might be more helpful to your humans but we think you should know what they are planning to do to keep you safe.
Don't be fooled by the title. These tips are for dogs AND cats. We Feline Funny Farmers would take offense at being left out, but you must understand the infographic was made for a dog site but appropriated ... um, I mean appropriate for all furries.
This is as large as it gets on this blog, so if you would like to see it in print large enough to actually read, we will direct your little paws to 8 Tips to Keep Your Dog Safe and Stree-Free This Halloween.
This infographic was created by The Uncommon Dog.com and used with permission.
Now go party and have fun with all your friends and know your humans have your back.

No Fish or Nip Shakeables
Buddy: As you know we love to eat and we're always open to taste testing edibles, so we were salivating with anticipation when Pam & Oskar from Pet Blogs United asked for volunteers to try the new Iams Shakeables.

Merci: Hey, wait a minute, there are only supposed to be three taste testers.
Rusty: I'm an honorary woofie. And when Jan shook the can, there was no megaphone announcement the treats were for woofies only. Any furry within hearing range was invited. I responded.

Buddy: The reason Jan waited until yesterday to let us try them is because we were waiting on a video commercial to be released so we could include it in our post. It was created by Andrew Grantham who is known for his viral video hit, “Ultimate Dog Tease." If you haven't seen it, take a minute to do so. It's hilarious.
His video for Iams is called Punk'd Puppy. You'll enjoy this.
If the video doesn't play, click here.
Iams says: "Through December 31st, for every view or hashtag (#ShakeItForward) share, Iams will donate a bowl of food to pets in need at select nonprofit animal shelters across the country--up to 250,000 bowls of food—through our Bowls of Love program!" We're not sure whether that means on Twitter, on Facebook or on both sites, but we wanted to let you know.
UPDATE from petcarebev: Hello everybody! I work at Iams and just wanted to clarify that you can share #ShakeItForward on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. For every hashtag share, we’ll donate a meal to pets in need (through Dec. 31). Thank you for helping #ShakeItForward!
And one more thing. Iams has provided us with a coupon for a free can of Shakeables to give away. We're sorry but we can only offer it to those who live in the United States.
If you would like to win the drawing for the coupon, just leave us a comment telling us you would like to enter. The giveaway will end at midnight EDT, Saturday, October 26th. A winner will e chosen via Random.org and the winner will be announced on Monday, October 28th.
(Any dog wanting to enter the giveaway but is unable to leave a comment, you can use the contact form in our sidebar or email us and we will enter you.)
Iams provided us with a can of Shakeables to taste test. We were not paid for this review and any opinion expressed is purely our own.
We are always grateful to you, our readers and friends, so we're joining PepiSmartDog.com for today's Thankful Thursday.
And also This 'N That Thursday hosted by 2 Brown Dogs.

Halloween Costume Winner
It's Monday. Time to announce the winner of our Halloween costume giveaway.
Hey, Merci here, wearing my clown costume for the occasion.
First, all of us would like to thank those of you who took the time to check out the costumes at Entirely Pets and enter the giveaway. We just know the winner will enjoy choosing a prize.
We wrote down all of the names of those of you who said you would like to enter. There were 21. Then we let Random.org select the winning number. It selected #4.
And #4 is ------
Benny & Lily of Two French Bulldogs. We'll give them a couple of days to decide whether Benny will be a panda or Lily will be a Monarch Butterfly. We'll be looking forward to an email from them.
Congratulations, Benny and Lily! We were rooting for all of the entrants to win (we can dream!), but now that the winner has been randomly selected, we'll mention that as many of you already know, Benny has been fighting the Big C. He's been taking chemo and living by his motto: Fight Like A Frenchie. We're very proud of his grit and determination.
All the costume selections can be viewed here, along with directions on how to meansure for size.
We would like to thank Entirely Pets for sponsoring this giveaway. They provided each of us dogs with a costume to model but we were not paid or directed what to say.

Double Giveaway
Sam and Micah: We're having a double giveaway with very simple entry requirements. Well, all of us are having a double giveaway but we could only convince Jan to make us a graphic with two Funny Farmers on it. We drew the short paint brushes. You're welcome to share the graphic if you'd like to help us spread the word.
For dogs we have freeze dried Liver Treats. They are all natural, high protein and low fat. They are excellent training treats or a good " I love you even though you can't touch your nose with your back paw"treats.. These are US sourced and manufactured from Green Pet Organics.
For cats we have Cat-Man-Doo Life Essentials All Natural Chicken Treats. An all natural high quality protein snack. No additives, preservatives, corn, wheat or soy,
We teamed with Entirely Pets and picked out two yummy prizes. The giveaway is open to anyone. You don't have to be a cat or a dog blogger. We're sorry but entries will be limited to the US, Canada and the UK. Yes, the UK is included.
1) Leave a comment stating whether you want to enter the dog or cat giveaway. You can enter both. To keep us from getting confused, please leave a separate comment for each giveaway, if you have both a cat and a dog. Write DOG in one and CAT in the other. We won't toss your entry if you forget, since we've been known to forget a thing or two on really, really, really RARE occasions. Okay, maybe just really rare? How about we'd win an award if we entered a forgetful contest!
2) Make sure we will be able to contact you should you win. If you don't have a blog, please leave an email address.
You can enter between now and midnight (EDT) Saturday, July 13. We will pick a winner for each prize from random.org and the winners will be announced here on Monday, July 15.
If we don't get a response from a winner within 3 days, the goodies will default to us. No, seriously, we would have to pick another winner for that category. Good luck to all. .
NOTE: Since this is open to anyone, we have temporarily changed our comment setting to include name/url and Anon. Be sure to leave your email address if you use either of those settings. (Break it up abc AT whatever DOT com) We have also enabled comment moderation to keep s--m from being posted.

Island Cats Swag
Hey, it's me, Rusty, with some exciting news.
You might remember the Island Cats recently held a giveaway for some of the swag their mom brought home from BlogPaws. We were very excited when we were notified we had won.
Friday the package arrived. There were a couple of toys, some yummy kibble samples, some treats, a bottle of pet medication and something for Jan. Yep, she gets the bottle of odor eliminator. Not for her personally, for the house. Don't know why the house would need it, unless it's because Jan's been sweating so heavily. Our litterbox certainly doesn't have any odor! Maybe it's the dogs' feet?
Jan opened the box on the washing machine in the kitchen. Micah has been living on the dryer, so he was first on the scene.
And Cameron was second. This is a first for both of them. Usually Percy and / or I are first on the scene to investigate incoming packages. The contents smelled so appealing, Cameron rubbed his scent on the box to claim it.
The usually reticent Cameron tries hard to chew into a sample kibble pack.
Micah does a double take as Percy arrives on the scene. Although Percy seldom tries to bully him any more, Micah goes into high alert state. Cameron is too busy trying to grab some nibbles to notice.
Cyndi shows up and totally ignores the guys and the box of goodies. Instead she poses for the camera and waits for Jan to open a package to share among us.
Where was I during this? I was helping Jan take pictures so we could get a taste of the goodies sooner.
Thank you for sharing your swag with us, Wally, Ernie & Zoey. And thanks to their lady with the yellow hair who mailed the package.
PS - Quinn won our recent FURminator giveaway and she posted about it yesterday. Her mom must be very happy she likes her new brush since Quinn is long-haired. You can read her post here.
Merci's coat was so thick this year Jan couldn't even get a rake through it. But Saturday she finally managed to "FURminate" Merci. You should have seen the handfuls of hair blowing around the backyard pen.

Three Woofers Win News
Hey, the 3 Woofers here, Merci, Sam & Buddy. The Funny Farmer Felines posted their weekly interview yesterday (click here if you missed Tommie, Gracie & Mickey Mouser of Shelter Cats.) so we figure it's our turn today.
Before we go any further, perhaps we should mention that the blog title doesn't mean we won any news. We just prefer concise, to the point titles. Three Woofers and their Siblings Win BlogPaws Swag and Talk About Their New News Column just doesn't have the same pizzazz, does it?
We are so excited. We won some of the Island Cats' swag from BlogPaws. That's really nice of Wally, Ernie, Zoey and the lady with the yellow hair to share with us Funny Farmers. Um, do you think Jan will want some of ... we don't actually know what it will be yet, but if Ernie has been eating it, we figure it's edible.Well, hopefully, it won't be edibles Jan likes.

And the Winner Is
Hey, it's me, Sam. I drew the short bone so I get to make the announcement.
*Yes, Buddy, drawing the short bone does too make me the winner! If you want to argue about it, I'm the biggest and heaviest, so I'll be happy to sit on you until I'm finished posting. You already had a recent turn anyway.*
As I was trying to say, last Monday we all posted on Seasonal Allergies and a Giveaway. Readers had until midnight Friday to leave a comment to be eligible for a FURminator giveaway.
I - well, we are pleased to announce we numbered all of the eligible (US & Canada) responses in the order in which they were posted and let Random.com choose the winning number. Random.org picked #1.
Since our first eligible commenter was Quinn and Angel Brandi from Catitude, I hereby declare Quinn the official winner.
*Um, Percy ... do I have to crown her or just make the announcement? Okay, I got it covered then. No crown. Just a FURminator.*
Quinn, please ask your mom to send us your snail mail information so your FURminator can be shipped to you.
Many thanks to all of you who entered. We wish you could all win.
And thanks to Novartis' Atopica for providing the winning FURminator. We did receive a FURminator for helping to raise awareness about seasonal allergies among pet owners, which we were glad to do since Buddy claims to be allergic to Jan, but we were neither paid nor told what to say.

Madi Speaks and Buddy Drives
This week we interview Madi from the blog Madi & Mom. She's cute, sassy and full of fun.
If you have ever aspired to being a diva and been unsure where to begin, Madi explains. Which mancat turns her head? How did she become Mayor? Well, you'll just have to read her interview, Madi, Mayor Diva Cougar Khat, on Mousebreath.
As you know, Buddy has been having a sad, painful time for a while, but now that he's doing better, he decided it is time to have some fun. He got his Georgia driver's license, something he has aspired to since he was a puppy. Jan isn't happy about this. Buddy has been trying to figure out where she hid the car keys since yesterday and she has serious doubts about letting him behind the wheel of her pile of junk ... um, her car.
How did he manage this? He stopped by The Philly Dog blog yesterday and entered the Subaru drawing.
If you hear snoring coming from the direction of the Funny Farm today that will be Jan. She didn't get much sleep last night because of Sam's terror of thunderstorms. He started crying about 2 1/2 hours before the thunder actually arrived, so it was a long night. Or a short one, depending on the point of view. So, shhhh.

Giveaway, Halloween and Suka
It's been a while since we've had a giveaway but we have one for our readers now. The book Paws to Reflect by Devon O'Day. It contains 365 spiritual devotions for animal lovers.
Over the years, Jan has often said that God has used us or TWCB (Those Who Came Before) to teach and encourage her. She used to write her own spiritual-related stories and we were often embarrassed by Miss Tattle Tail ... er Tale. So Jan was pleased to receive a copy of this book a few weeks ago and we are thrilled to have an opportunity to give another copy away. If you love animals and enjoy a daily devotional, you will enjoy this book. If it doesn't interest you, perhaps you know someone it would. And it would make a great Christmas or other occasion gift.
You can get a look into the book and read some sample devotions on Amacon com. At Amazon, above the book on the left, click on "Click to Look Inside."
We HATE those "giveaways" where the blogger makes readers jump through hoops to enter, using raptocopter or whatever it is, so you have to leave a comment, like their facebook page, follow them on twitter and tweet about them, do a blog post, bake a souffle, buy a horse trailer, subscribe to their blog posts, visit the shop and write an essay on which product you like best - you get the idea. We don't have that kind of time. Occasionally we might leave a comment, but that's it.
We think a giveaway should be just that, a giveaway. So we are going to do one. Of course, if you'd like to subscribe to our blog posts, follow us on twitter, do a blog post telling everyone how wonderful but humble we are, and bake us a tuna souffle or a salmon nip cake with real whipped cream icing, we will kiss your paws with joy. But those are not requirements.
If you would like to participate. just leave us a comment saying you'd like to win the book. Be sure to leave some way we can contact you, such as a link to your own web blog or an email address, should you win. Because of postal rates, since we will be mailing the book to the winner, we will need to restrict entries to the US only.
You do not need to be a pet blogger to enter. This is open to anyone who would like a copy of Paws to Reflect devotions.
Entries will be accepted through Saturday, November 3 at 11:59 PM EST. The winner will be announced on Monday, November 5.
Don't forget to vote for your favorite Halloween Real and Photoshopped contest entry (one vote for each). Voting ends at midnight tonight. So go by the Tabby Cat Club and cast your vote. (A reminder, if you voted Friday, please go back and re-vote. The polls went berserk and kept dropping the votes, so voting had to be changed to comments and was extended this extra day.
Just yesterday, Suka's post was on his failing heart and already today he is gone. Purrs and pawhugs to his grieving family, including his friend / sibling Porgy the parrot. K will do a post tonight or tomorrow. They are not in the storm's path but Khyra mentioned on Facebook K lost power right after letting her know about Suka. You can leave a comment on Suka's Just Sayin' blog.
We think we covered everything. Jan is exasperated. She cut tree limbs over the weekend and we had winds last night that blew them every which way. She had to fetch and carry, then beat them down with a rake to make them behave. A while ago she found them all over the place again. Some even blew across the yard and into our pen.
So if you'll excuse us, Jan needs to get cracking on hanging a blanket over the window with the ac unit before those branches blow inside. Okay, the leaks aren't quite that big but the wind blowing in is sure cold. And you know how klutzy she is, so we're going to have to go snoopervise.
The cold and wind are an annoyance to us, but we are concerned and praying for those northeast of us who are / will be getting hard hit by Hurricane Sandy. Be safe!

New Shoe for Jan
Hey, we got the strangest package recently. This is what was in it. No, not Percy, the strange white box he's standing in.
We tried some guesses ....
Rusty got bored and gave up.
But Percy persevered.
We're still not sure.
Finally, even Percy gives up.
Ah, a light dawns.
Percy suddenly remembers Jan recently did the weird winner dance because we won Brian's NVR Miss Litterbox Giveaway. She was happy because some cat - and she dared to claim it was me! - kept peeing over one of the boxes we had (not pictured), even though we are using higher than normal boxes. But this box is supposed to be made so the cat has to turn sideways from the opening.
Shortly before Micah moved in a couple weeks ago Jan added the new box to the "keep the dogs out of the litterbox buffet" hideaway and waited to see what would happen. And she's been pleased with the results. So far, no over the top accidents.
I, however, am not a bit pleased with it. I want my favorite one back. You know, the lower one I could ...uh, perhaps I should stop talking now.
Thanks for spoiling my aim, Brian. Um, I mean, thanks for having the giveaway so we could win this special new litter box that makes Jan happy..

Innova Winners and Huck
Hey, Sam here. Since our post on the Innova free bag of food coupon giveaway post had my name on it (Sam Broke his Biscuit), I stood on Buddy's foot until he agreed ... uh, I mean I volunteered to announce the winners.
Merci and Buddy got into a heated debate since each wanted to use a different website to pick the winners. They finally decided to compromise and each of them got to pick one winner. We had 4 entries from the US/Canada area. Each entry was assigned a number..
Merci, as you know, is a girl, so we let her pick the first winner using her choice, Truly Random Number Generator. #2 (Amber da Weenie)
Buddy used Random.org. #1 (The Chesney Cats)
Congratulations. If the winners will each email us their snail mail addresse, we can get their coupon for a free bag of Innova dog or cat food in the mail.
We'd like to thank you all for your comments. Some of our readers live outside the US/Canada and some are on a special diet or have medical problems that preclude trying a new food. We understand.
And thanks to Innova for supplying the coupons for the giveaway.
And now for a little fun for the humans today. A crazy grandma. Some of you might recognize her in your own human. We can't picture Jan doing anything like this, but she sure got a kick out of watching someone else do it.
If the video doesn't play, click here.
We hope you will take a moment to stop by The Doggy Diary and leave a kind word for Huck's family. They made the painful decision to give him the peace he couldn't find in life. It's very sad and they can use some encouragement.

Reminder: we're having a drawing Thursday. Details are on Sam Broke his Biscuit.

Senior Dreams and WBCL Contest
Cotton:
Well, I'm the senior Funny Farmer, so I was asked to introduce today's post. All right, I wasn't asked, I volunteered. Okay, Buddy insists I stop fudging. I got to the computer first. But it's a subject close to my heart so I ran to the computer. See, older pets can still run.
Since this is Adopt A Senior Pet Month, we have a senior video for you. Senior animals make great pets but they are often overlooked in shelters. We didn't realize we're considered senior by age 8. Don't mention that in Merci's earshot. She might be 8 or 9 but she thinks she's still a puppy. Besides, she has to keep up with Buddy and Sam's longer legs and bounding energy.
What we don't understand, though, is why the senior videos for this month all seem to feature dogs.Where are the senior cats? Well, we finally found one that includes kitties.
If the video doesn't play, click here.
And we don't want to forget to post the good news on World's Best Cat Litter. It's now available in Target stores. For a limited time all 8 pound bags purchased at Target will have an instantly redeemable $3.00 coupon.
And WBCL is hosting a contest which will run through November 22rd. You can enter one of 3 ways - or all 3. Three winners will receive all these prizes: a year's supply of WBCL, some WBCL goodies, and a $200 Target gift card. Winners will be randomly drawn on November 23rd.
You can find the details on the WBCL blog Clearing the Air. Stop by and check them out.

Percy Volunteers to Vacuum
Percy: This is me from our Zazzle store. I was sound asleep on the desk at the time and Jan thought I looked so cute and innocent.
Sunday, we posted on 5 dogs that belonged to a woman in hospice. Her daughter took 3 of the dogs to the shelter and was to return with the other 2. You can read the story here. We updated the post to say we had been told the 3 dogs had been adopted, and like you, we have been concerned about what happened to the other 2.
This evening (we're writing this Tuesday) we received more direct information - a copy of an email from Elizabeth at the shelter. "All of these dogs went out to rescue or on a transport to Weatherford. All three of them are safe and the other two dogs have not come in as of yet." We hope this means the other two are safe and have found a home without having to go through the shelter. We'll keep you posted if we hear any more on them.
“Hair Ye! Hair Ye Contest! featuring the giveaway of two Hoover WindTunnel Pet Hair Vacuums ends on Halloween (Sunday) at Daily Kibble.
We have been asked to feature a contest. We're going to enter it too. We already entered. Maybe if we can win Jan a Hoover Pet Vacuum she'll stop complaining about pet hair through the house.
Percy: Wait, what did Jan mean by she'll stop complaining when we start doing the vacuuming around here? We thought a "pet vacuum" is for humans. I did NOT volunteer!
No purchase is necessary. All you have to do is register. Be sure to read the contest rules and also complete giveaway details because, although there is only one entry per person by email address, you can become eligible for an additional entry on Facebook. We're sorry but the drawing is only open to residents of the 50 United States and D.C. Click for contest registration page.
