Happy Thanksgiving, Columbus

Okay, so the title is a little strange. You don't usually wish a dead man a happy Thanksgiving. But today is a double holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our Canadian friends!

And Happy Columbus Day to all of us in the United States. Since all our local offices are closed and there is no mail delivery today, we were surprised to find news articles suggesting Columbus Day isn't celebrated in all part of the U.S. Is Columbus Day Sailing Off the Calendar?

Dr. Tweety & da Fab 5 left a comment on our last post, which we would like to share.

We wouldz likes to give da Merci an awardz. I callz it:
(drum rolllllllllllllll)
"Da bestee dawg in da wurld awward!"
Con cats to Merci!!!!
Love,
Dr T

Thank you, Dr. T, and we agree with you! You recognized the best dog in the world and we hope others will too.

  1. When I received a jury summons tor October 12 I wondered about it. No mail. no banks, no city services, but the county municipal court is open? I checked online up until it was time to leave the house and still had a Must appear status. Me and close to 200 others showed for the pool and some had to stay. Not me, I got to come home. I still wonder why the courts were open. We voted for Marci!

  2. We like the Khanadian way of celebrating Thanksgiving - it is a lot khooler than khramming it all together like 'we' do -

  4. It is strange that Columbus Day isn't that big of a holiday throughout the US... Some of our friends had to work on this day.

  5. Columbus, OH is the largest city named Columbus in the US. It use to have a parade downtown (there is also a replica of the Santa Maria docked on the river). Columbus Day is pretty much a non-event these days....pity.

  10. Well I guess if it wasn't for Columbus coming here we wouldn't be celebrating his day. Sure hope they don't give this day the heave ho like The Army of Four said they might do. Yes, Happy Thanksgiving for our Canadian friends.

  11. Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends! There wasn't much celebrating going on that I could see, but the banks were closed, the post office was closed and the lab was closed, so a lot of people didn't go to work today. I did, but the grocery store is open every day but Christmas Day.

  12. We've only been posting but not visiting much the past few days -- good to see y'all back online!! :D Sorry to hear there's still so much to do to get back to where you were before the crash. Dead computers and reboots are such a pain...

    purrs and hugs,

  15. Hey Jan's gang,
We thought that "they" had changed the name to "Discover's Day" because of the big fuss over Americo Vesspucci and Leaf Erickson, etc. Anyway, the feds had the day off but just about everything non fed seemed to be up and running as usual. They can't get rid of Columbus Day or whatever its' called; what would they do with all those matresses that they only sell on Columbus Day weekend?
