Blogger on Booze

Yes, we believe blogger is on booze! We are so frustrated after another 3 days of the same problem we had with the new blogger templates a few months ago. You remember that. We battled for two horrible weeks before dumping the new template. We are so disgusted with trying to figure out what blogger is drinking we are about ready to throw in the towel.

We have redone and redone the template from scratch, even trying a different one. But after 2 or 3 days of having a problem loading the blog (that seems to have finally resolved) and trying everything to fix a problem we have no control over, we are fed up. (Well, not actually fed up. If any of you have any tasty tidbits, we can certainly find room.)

But could someone explain to us why blogger INSISTS on "downsizing" any photo we try to add to the sidebar to 215 when the photos are supposed to be 180 to fit? We switched from the new editor to the old and now it wants to resize to 205 instead of 215, but that is still way too big and would throw our sidebar down in the gutter. The sidebar is a major part of a blog and we need to be able to post to it.

We even had Jan resize the photos we wanted to add to 180 in PSE and after letting us do one correctly, blogger UPsized the next one so it had to be deleted. There is nowehere in the template to fix this. There is no tech support. We put in a request for help on the forum but don't really expect a response. We can't find blogger on twitter or on Facebook so we can't satisfy our frustration by punching blogger in the nose over the net.

We can't keep spending our computer time playing mind games with a psycho blog. Helllllllllp!

Update: @electrobutter on Twitter suggested we resize photos to 150 (smaller than the 180 needed) for the sidebar. Now this is not the way it is supposed to work. In fact, it is bass-ackwards. But it worked! We tried it on two photos and both of them resized themselves UP to fit properly. Didn't matter whether we unchecked the "resize to 215" box. Tomorrow it might go psycho again but for tonight it worked. Blogger, please fix what is broken - for all of us. Many bloggers are terrified to try your new templates because of all the problems such as this one they read about others having.

And now to lower our blood pressure, as well as entertain you, we would like to share General Buonaparte's Army of Animals video as they have a shootout with ED on Le Western Front. If you are acquainted with the General on Facebook, you will understand the title of this video - Le Good, Le Bad and Le Deranged. (Just so you don't misunderstand, we love the General.)

Have a good day and if you have come by the blog while we were lumbering around Design, you weren't imagining things. The blog really did keep changing designs and colors.

  1. Well, it looks to me like you got the sidebar issue resolved (or just deleted all the oversized ones). I don't know why it is trying to make them a weird size - are you sure that they will be too big (I resized my sidebars which is why I ask). I would say just don't check the "shrink to fit" box when you post the pictures and that should post it at the original size. I have been messing around a lot with it (I have blogs set up just to try stuff out) so if you have any questions feel free to email me!

  2. You know for sure that the mom here won't be able to help you on any blogger problems. I think the monster is out to bother you as much as it can. Wish you luck with getting things the way you want them.
    Good luck.

  3. Another example of why the momster is so afraid to mees with out blog. We hope you get it all figured out and keep notes so you can help everyone else out later:) Cute video.

  4. We are sad ya are havin such problems. TBT says ours old template werks an he aint TOUCHIN it...

Does the above help or make sense??

Oh dear!!! Bad Blogger!! They really drive me mental when they offer these fab templates but then leave you floundering to solve any issues you come across. The forum is useless - I'm still waiting for an answer to a question I posted 6 weeks ago!!

My only solution is to cut and paste your question on google and hope that some other soul has experienced your problem but has found a way to solve it. I got most of my answers that way - not all of them, mind but enough to have a blog I could live with - although I'm still using the old editor cos that's the only way I can schedule my posts - the new one refuses to do so. AND no-one is telling me why! LOL!

Anyway!! Back to your resizing - there must be a techie way of solving this!!! It was like with the youtube clips - I didn't know you could re-size it to fit your blog space until I found the answer in one of my google searches!!

    Take care

  6. Jan, what template are you using??? If it's one of the new ones that you can go to when using their template designer, then adjust the sidebar width where it says layout.

Also, as Amy said, make sure the "shrink to fit" box doesn't have a checkmark in it.

If you need more help please feel free to email our mama at and she will be more than happy to help, if she can.

  7. Everything looks good!
Sorry Blogger is giving you a hard time.
That is way my mom don't even think about making any changes on my blog!
    Take care

  12. Glad you got your sidebar sorted out. People don't realize that blogging is hard work so it's good that you are there to make sure Jan gets these things fixed for you.
