What A Relief It Melted

Percy:  No, this is not what is happening today. This was last Monday, January 27th. Our first, and hopefully, only snowfall of the year. We were offline at the time that horrible storm moved into the "sunny South" and couldn't share photos so we're going to share them now.

Cameron:  There was basically no traffic, only snow and ice.

Cyndi  We could have counted every car that went by on both roads because of the loud crunching of tires on ice or tires trying to get traction on a bad patch.  Fortunately, there were very few vehicles during the night or we wouldn't have gotten any sleep.  And I do need my beauty sleep.

Buddy:  This was Marcus' first glimpse of snow.  As you can see from the few paw prints, he and Sam did a quick pee and wanted back inside.  But Jan stood on the top step in her boots and a coat taking pictures and made them stay outside to enjoy the snow.  I get cold easily, so Jan let me in the house.

Micah:  See all the paw tracks now?  Sam and Buddy finally got the hang of it and started to play.

Merci:  I sat on a step and watched the snow fall.

Rusty:  This is what it looked like by the next afternoon.  Kids were outside playing and the ice was melting on the street.

Percy  Doesn't that look peaceful?  Jan said the snow was pretty but she was glad she didn't have to go anywhere in it.

Sam:  We're glad the snow and the icicles on the house have melted.  We are not prepared for weather like this, as folks are in areas where ice and snow are "normal," so in advance of the storm, it was announced county offices and schools would be closed and people were told to stay off the roads.

Buddy:  We saved these photos for Thankful Thursday because we are truly thankful this is in the past and we've had a chance to thaw out.  It's been so cold here this winter, we have missed many of our walks.  I don't expect Jan will want to make up for them in the spring.  She's getting kind of old, you know.

We're going to join Pepi Smart Dog for Thankful Thursday.

  1. We're in the South too. It's been much colder this year than it has for a long time! Your snow pics are pretty, but like yours, our Mom could have done without it. But at least y'all got in some good playtime.

  2. Wow, you did get a fair amount of snow for being in the South huh?
Well, as you probably know we are in Canada, so it is quite normal for us. We love it, kids and dogs both!
But we are also glad to see it go come Spring time lol
Glad it's melting away for you!

  4. Whoa whoa whoa Jan, did you really capture that first photo? It looks like in complete standstill. Quite impressive. Also look at the serene aftermath. I can't imagine how cold it must be. It started to rain today in sunny ca-- FINALLY! We are in a drought! Happy Thoughtless Thursday to the whole crew at Funny Farm.

  5. That was a pretty amazing snowfall for your area! I can't imagine what would happen if it snowed here in Los Angeles - I think people's heads would explode! It's only happened two or three times in the past 100 years.

  6. Thank goodness your snow melted - we have only had flurries up to now which have melted but the problem here in the UK is floods after such a lot of rain in the last month.
Many people have had to leave their homes and have been unable to return yet (6 weeks) and when they do everything will be damaged or destroyed.

  8. We felt so bad for our friends that live in the south because of all that nasty weather. Now can be pretty, but we have 49 inches now and don't want anymore. Ours usually turns to snow - we seldom get the ice - only maybe once every two years.

  16. Wow, you really did get a bunch of snow there! We are glad that Jan made you boys play in it a little bit, because it doesn't happen very often, right? We understand about wanting to come right back in, though ... BRRRR!
