Not Your Apartment
Percy: This is my latest apartment. I've been living in it since the weather turned cold and wet.
Micah: It's a laundry basket, Percy, not your apartment!
Percy: It's a very cozy apartment with a widow view. And sometimes there is sunshine.
Micah: I can enjoy the same sunshine from my latest apartment.
Percy: That's not your apartment. That's Jan's bed.
Micah: Yes, I have it to myself all day. Jan puts the gates on to keep Marcus off the bed in the daytime. If she forgets, he sneaks in here and makes himself at home.
Marcus: Jan, that's MY top sheet. It isn't fair. If I'm not allowed on MY top sheet during the day, Micah should be evicted until bedtime too. Please let me chase him off MY sheet!
Taylor: Cyndi, why do the guys have such a hard time with living arrangements?
Cyndi: It must be a guy thing. You and I seem to the the only ones around here that actually sleep in the beds Jan gave us.
Taylor: Have you ever considered spreading your wings and sleeping somewhere different?
Cyndi: If I did, I would be squashed.
Taylor: How would that happen?
Cyndi: Marcus would mistake my wings for his new pillow.

The Bed Saga
Cyndi: This past winter we did a whole series of articles on beds. Dog beds, cat beds, purloined beds, shredded beds -
Buddy: Miss Pam crocheted Percy his own cat cave bed because his favorite sleeping place was taken over by Micah. (A Cat Cave for Percy)
Cyndi: So then Miss Pam crocheted a new bed for Percy because Micah took over his cat cave. (Percy's Cat Cave Part 2)
Buddy Miss Pam knitted Percy a new bed. And guess who claimed it before Percy even had a chance to see it? (Percy's New New Bed) Good guess. Yes, it was Micah.
Cyndi: Miss Pam then crocheted three more new beds - a total of five, one for each kitty. She hoped Percy would get at least one of them.
Buddy: But it got hot early this year and none of the cats wanted a warm place to sleep, so Jan put the beds aside for next winter; however, when she went to photograph them so the cats could thank Miss Pam, Jan couldn't remember where she'd put them. She tore the house apart - twice!
Cyndi: She did finally find them. By accident. She kept forgetting to take photos. Now that it's late July and we're sweltering, we finally have a photo of our lovely, warm, new, unused beds. Never fear, though, they will be used when cooler weather arrives!
Buddy: Yes, they will be used. The question is, even with one bed per cat, will Percy finally get to sleep in his own new bed or will some unnamed cat claim two for himself? The saga continues.
Cyndi: We want to thank Miss Pam for thinking of our comfort and for the work she put into gifting us with such beautiful winter beds.
Buddy: And the cats would also like to thank Jan for finally finding the beds she put safely aside so they wouldn't get lost.

Percy's New New Bed
Percy: You might remember that last week Miss Pam knitted me a cat cave. After two days, I was evicted by my nemesis Micah. (Percy's Cat Cave, Part 2) This week Miss Pam knitted me a new new bed. Thank you so much, Miss Pam! I thought you would like to know how much enjoyment I have had from it.
Micah: I can't believe we have this new bed and Jan didn't even mention it when she stopped by my cat cave to pet me. Good thing I caught a whiff of the new scent and followed it into the living room, just in time to get my picture taken on it.
Buddy: So how does it compare to the cat cave?
Micah: It's a lighter weight and there's no cave, but it's a good size and very soft. Excuse me a minute. A cat should always take a bath when breaking in a new bed.
Buddy: Then I'm glad I'm not a cat. I just crash on the new bed and it breaks itself in.
Micah: That's the difference between cats and dogs. We have to follow etiquette. Unless we aren't in the mood at the moment.
Buddy: We follow etiquette too. Especially if there's a garbage can or a mud puddle.
Micah: This is the new bed. Pretty colors.
Buddy: Yes, blue for you guys and pink for Cyndi and Taylor.
Rusty: I didn't think Micah would every leave so I could have a turn. It's already past my nap time.
Micah: Hey, Rusty, you're in my new bed!
Rusty: No, Micah, I'm in Percy's new bed. You can have it back when I'm done with my nap.
Micah: I don't believe this. Rusty stole my new bed. Guess I'll just sit here on my old cat cave and see what's going on in the neighborhood.
Percy: That is what went on around here for three days. I never got to set one paw on my new new bed.
Buddy: Micah did get his comeuppance. Sometime during the night he vomited on it and Jan had to wash it and hang it up to dry. So no one got to sleep in your new new bed the past couple of days.
Percy: You wait and see, when Jan tries to give it to me, Micah will find a way to reclaim it. I'm trying to figure out how to donate one of the new beds to the church discount store up the road.
Buddy: Why would you want to donate one of the beds Miss Pam so lovingly knitted for you?
Percy: Because I'd donate it with Micah sleeping on it!
Correction: As Yam Aunty pointed out in comments, this bed is crocheted not knitted. As always, it's all Jan's fault. She told us it was knitted. Our apologies for believing her.

Percy's Cat Cave Part 2
Taylor: Uh-oh, I see trouble on the horizon. Percy hasn't had his new cat cave 48 hours (A Cat Cave for Percy) and now this.
Micah: What's "this"?
Taylor: You.
Micah: I'm not a "this". I'm a contented cat. I found this wonderful new bed behind a door. It's so soft and warm and no one was using it.
Taylor: It isn't a bed. It's a rock cave and Miss Pam knitted it special for Percy because you appropriated his hat and scarf bed.
Micah: I did not appropriate it, and I did offer him a time share, but he refused.
Taylor: You know he won't use anything you've touched.
Micah: Does that mean he won't want his cat cave back? That's okay. I won't mind a bit.
Percy: I don't believe it. I left the room for two minutes ... two minutes for a litter box break and Micah stole my new bed. Jan hid it behind the door so Micah wouldn't find it.
Micah: I heard you won't be wanting it back, Percy. Thanks for the new digs.
Percy: Sunday I had a wonderful new bed. Monday Rusty borrowed it for half the day. It's only Tuesday and I've already been evicted. (I know this is posting Thursday, but this happened Tuesday. *sniff, sniff*)
Taylor: I'll share with you, Percy. You can nap in my box bed if you want.
Percy: Thanks, but I miss my cat cave.
Taylor: You mean your cat cave with the rock slide roof.
Percy: Huh?
Taylor: You flattened out the cave by sleeping on it. The rock slide roof. Don't you get it?
Percy: No, and I don't want it. Not with Micah's smell on it. I'll just sit here a while in your box and try to remember how nice it was to curl up on my soft, warm, knitted bed.
Micah: Thank you, Miss Pam, for knitting this cat cave for Percy to give to me.

A Cat Cave for Percy
Percy: This new bed looks so empty, so I think I'll just take a nap on it.
Taylor: I guess Percy doesn't understand the concept of a cat cave. He's supposed to sleep in it, not on it.
Percy: But I'm so comfy on it. That nice Miss Pam knitted it just for me because Micah stole my knitted hat and scarf bed.
Rusty: Hmmm, I don't know where this came from but it seems like a good place to take a bath.
Taylor: Uh, Percy just went to the kitchen for a bite to eat. He'll be back soon.
Rusty: Okay, but as long as he's gone, I'll just take a quick snooze.
Percy: Can you believe this? I was only gone a few minutes and my new bed has been appropriated.
Taylor: Don't worry. Rusty will be leaving soon.
Percy: Ahh, finally I have my new bed back.
Rusty: Are you done with it yet, Percy?
Percy: No.
Rusty: Well, I'll just sit here and wait until you are.

You Move Uptown
Micah: Some of you might remember a recent post called Squatters Rights. My closing remark was, "Oh, good. I can't wait to see where we're moving next." This is where we moved.
Percy: No, this is where I moved after Micah stole my soft, warm bed.
Micah: Actually, this is where we moved. (The gates on the bed are to keep the dogs off it during the day.) I am lying in the big sun puddle and Percy is on a pillow with his back to me.
Percy: Don't try anything. I have eyes in the back of my head.
Micah: I have him rattled. He's blustering. He's also lying. I checked. He does not have eyes in the back of his head.
Percy: Actually, he's right. It's his scent that gives him away. I can smell him from a mile away.
Micah: Percy, you're exaggerating. Since I moved in, we've never been a mile away from each other.
Percy: We should be. I'll stay here and you move uptown.
Micah: I'm very comfortable here. You can't be comfortable, though. Would you like me to move onto the other pillow so you don't have to crane your head over your shoulder?
Percy: No! I can keep an eye on you just fine from here.
Micah: Okay, suit yourself, but I can't wait to see where well be moving next.

Squatters Rights
Percy: Remember this photo from just a week ago? then I was happy and comfy and warm. I was also the resident of the knitted hat and scarf basket. (Chatting With Percy)
Micah: And then he got up and moved out and I moved in.
Percy: I did not move out! When I went to the kitchen for some kibble, you decided to become a squatter.
Micah: I am not a squatter. The bed was empty and I -
Percy: Took advantage of my absence.
Micah: And I checked out the residence to see if I'd like to share it with you.
Percy: You stole my favorite bed.
Micah: We can take turns enjoying the warmth and softness of Miss Pam's lovely knitted bed.
Percy: Not with your scent on it, I won't!
Micah: Okay, then, if you're vacating the premises, I'm moving in. Would you mind cleaning up after yourself? You've left some fur behind.
Percy: You can keep the fur. I'll find myself another bed somewhere.
Micah: Oh, good. I can't wait to see where we're moving next.

Chatting With Percy
Percy: Zzzzzzzz.
Merci: Percy must really be tired. He's still sleeping. Hasn't moved in hours.
Percy: Zzzzzz.
Rusty: He seems to be making up for lost time.
Merci: Lost time; where did he lose it?
Rusty: When Jan laid her knit hat and scarf in the basket to keep Percy from sleeping on it, Percy just moved with them, but he was afraid if he closed his eyes, Micah would steal his new bed.
Percy: Zzzzz.
Merci: He certainly has taken over that basket. He's curled there morning and evening.
Rusty: He seems to be comfortable and he does get up for meals.
Merci: And he does wake up whenever Micah gets on the desk to sit in the window.
Rusty: Yes, he does. The growling is a dead giveaway he's awake.
Percy: Zzzzz.
Merci: I guess Miss Pam will be pleased to know Percy loves the hat and scarf she knitted for Jan. Jan just hasn't had the heart to take them back.
Rusty: I guess we should move along so we don't wake him. It's been nice chatting with you.
Merci: Same here.
Percy: Zzzzz.

Percy Finds New Beds
Marcus: Hey, Percy, why are you sleeping on Jan's knit hat and scarf?
Percy: Jan left them here for me to sleep on.
Marcus: Are you sure? She was wearing them because she was cold sitting at the computer.
Percy: She took them off and left the room. I'm sleeping on them; ergo, she left them here for me to sleep on.
Marcus: You're probably right. If she wanted them, she would have reclaimed them by now.
Percy: Please turn out the light as you leave the room.
Percy: It wasn't very nice of Jan to wake me the other night to demand back her scarf, but she left this on Marcus's crate. It's soft and warm and she knows I like to sleep up here, so it must have been put here for me.
Marcus: Hey, Percy, you get off my new blankie! Stella Rose sent it to me (Marcus Has A Blankie), not you.
Percy: You're not using it right now, but I'm ready for a nap. Can we discuss this later?
Marcus: No, you didn't ask my permission. If you don't move right now, I'm going to pull my blankie out from under you!
Percy: You'll shred it with your teeth if you do that, and how would you explain to Stella Rose that you destroyed her present?
Marcus: Oh, no, you're right. I can't do that. So what can I do to get you to give me back my blankie?
Percy: You can wait until after I finish my nap and I will return it to you.
Marcus: Oh, okay. How long do you think you'll need it for your nap?
Percy: Just until tomorrow morning.
Marcus: But it's only 8 a.m. You can't possibly sleep for 24 hours.
Percy: I can on something this soft and warm. Would you ask the others to keep the noise down so I can rest?
Marcus: Certainly, and I'll bring you a cup of hot apple cider and a bowl of already chewed kibble. Would you like me to use the litter pan for you too?
Percy: Don't be silly. I'd rather have a cup of hot nip cider. And please turn out the light as you leave the room.
Percy: Jan left them here for me to sleep on.

Since I Lost My Blankie
Marcus: ♪ ♫ Since I lost my blankie. ♪ ♫ Since I lost my blankie.
Percy: What are you wailing about now, Marcus?
Marcus: I'm singing The Temptations' old song "Since I Lost My Blankie".
Cyndi: I never heard of it. Are you sure there is such a song?
Marcus: Of course there is!
Percy: So where did you lose your blankie?
Marcus: Right here. It used to be inside my crate but now it's outside.
Cyndi: I hate to say this, but that's not a blankie, it's your bedding.
Marcus: Okay. ♪ ♫ Since I lost my bedding. ♪ ♫ Since I lost -
Percy: You have not lost your bedding either. You pulled it outside your crate and wadded it up. if you want it "found" again, just drag it back inside.
Cyndi: Oh, and by the way, The Temptations never sang a song called "Since I Lost My Blankie". It was "baby", "since I lost my baby"!
Marcus: That's just plain silly! How could they lose a baby?
Percy: I don't know. How did you lose your bedding while sleeping on it?
Cyndi: If you don't believe us, here it is. Baby, since I lost my baby.
