Electrical Surgery

Sam:  Psst, Sam here.  I heard a nasty rumor that Jan ate the dog food for our review.  Do any of you know anything about that?

Marcus:  WHAT?  Jan wouldn't do that.  She doesn't like dog food.  Or does she?

Buddy:  Are you sure she ate it?  I heard a whisper that she fed our food to the cats. Why would she do that?  They have plenty of food.

Merci:  I heard it had something to do with crossed eyes.

Sam: I didn't know Jan has crossed eyes.  Did any of you notice that?

Merci:  No, Percy's eyes are slightly crossed but I don't think Jan's are.

Buddy:  No, I haven't noticed Jan having crossed eyes, but I have noticed she has been wandering around with crossed wires lately.   

Merci:  Wires, that's it. Crossed wires.

Marcus:  Should we call a doctor?  An ambulance?  Does she need electrical surgery?

Merci:  No, Marcus, crossed wires are in the brain.  I don't think she has an electrical circuit.  If she did, she's lost it.

Sam:  We don't need to call an ambulance.  If Jan needs a surgeon, Dr. Buddy is the best brain surgeon around.

Marcus: *wide-eyd*  Buddy is a brain surgeon? 

Buddy:  Of course.  A few years ago I operated on Billy Sweetfeets (Part 1 and Part 2 - uh, we advise you to visit the human litterbox before reading these posts) and he is doing well.

Marcus:  That's great.  But what about our food.  Did she feed it to the cats or not?

Merci:  Here it is.  The cats not only ate our food but they posted a review on it yesterday! 

Sam:  Isn't this against the Cat and Dog Treaty of 2008, subsection 124 of Section 29A?  There shall be no cross posting ... Oh, wait, it actually says, there shall be no cross-dressing between cats and dogs. 

Marcus:  Why would I want to dress as a cat?

Buddy:  I have no idea, but after this, I think I need a nap.

JB & Siblings Tell All

Today we interview the handsome kitties of JB's Small World - JB (JellyBean, Chester, CocoBean, Armani, Gaia & Charli. In the fur, they are quiet and laid-back, but mischief does lurk behind the curtain.. 

If you haven't already, stop by Mousebreath to read JB's Small World and Siblings to find answers to those questions you've always wanted to ask but didn't dare.  Such as, what is the funniest thing JB has ever done?  (Boy, will that surprise you!)

Oh, and today is the day Asta has her surgery.  We don't know the time difference between here and Budapest, so we're not sure if it's finished or hasn't started yet.  We are hopeful she will be okay.  All our paws are crossed.

Esperanza, Mother of the Year

Hi, Percy here.  As you can tell, this is one of those lazy days.  So if you don't mind, I'll just introduce today's post while lying down with my eyes closed. Jan's hacking is still keeping us awake most of the day, so we have to catch a few winks when we can.

But I'm awake. hones ...zzzzz.  Oh, sorry.  I almost dozed off.  This kitty bed cushion is so soft and comfy.  We don't have any news, so we'll just get right to the post.

Esperanza, Mother of the Year at Edmonton Humane, cared for and nursed 5 healthy puppies and a kitten, despite a severe fracture of the femur.  When found and turned into the shelter, she needed surgery to repair her leg. Jake the kitten was temporarily separated from her canine family so she could learn to eat cat food.

In an effort to save her leg from amputation Esperanza had the donated surgery on December 8 and was reunited with Jacob.  The whole family will be going into foster care when a suitable home for their special needs is found.

Murphy's Law & Dr. Tweety

Murphy's Law is visiting and won't leave so we don't have a post prepared for today. But we do have just a quick reminder that Dr. Tweety's (the Fab 5) dad is having surgery today. Please remember him and his concerned family.  We're sending them our best purrs and tail wags.

Purrs for Delilah, Auction, Photos

Unless you're a new blogger, you know Dr Tweety, Delilah, Maximillian, Iris & Auntie Stinkie -- the Fab Five. They haven't been blogging regularly for a while because their dad had serious health problems. (He's doing better.) But they are not forgotten!

Delilah tore her cruciate ligament completely and has to have a $1600 operation in August to repair it. Without it, she will never walk right again.

We'll let their mom tell you more about it --

It is a complete cranial cruciate ligament rupture of her left rear knee joint. She is limping pretty badly and on some powerful oral anti-inflammatory meds. She's a trooper though, and has lost 3/4 of a pound on her new prescription diet. Everyone is pretty proud of our garden girl. She can sit under her favorite tomato plant but is tempted to crash through the flower beds after swallowtail butterflies... not good for her knee however.

Right now I am most worried about Delilah coming through the surgery without complications. She also has a seizure disorder, so I worry about her getting through anesthesia. We have already been charged $400. to run tests on her liver and kidney function and for her visit with a visiting "big city" orthopedic doc who has the skills to do this surgery. We live rural, so our regular vet doesn't do the repair. Hopefully she will regain 90-95 percent of her movement with the surgery. She's only five, so it makes sense. Otherwise she would eventually need a little cart just to walk. The knee is just "flopping."

We have to keep her confined for eight weeks following. And, keep her from jumping onto things and going up or down stairs! Now talk about herding cats! We're debating how we are going to do this. Baby gates,small pens, removing furniture. Everyone (including us) sleeping on the floor?????

What we could use help with is reassurance and advice from others in the CB and cats who have had this surgery and what their experience has been like.

So, we hope one or more of you can offer a little advice on how to keep Delilah safe for an eight week confinement in a lively cat household and/or this type of injury/surgery.

When we decided on the spur of the moment yesterday to post the list of entries in our photo contest to make it easier for readers to view them, we made a big oopsie!
