Happy Thanksgiving 2018

Taylor:  I thought Thanksgiving was last month.  Why are we celebrating it again?

Micah:  It wasn't last month.  It was last year.

Cyndi:  It doesn't seem that long ago.  Where has the time gone?

Percy:  Marcus eats everything.  He probably ate it.

Marcus:  Is this all I'm getting to eat?  I thought we were supposed to get portions we're thankful for.

Cyndi:  Stop whining.  You pulled out an old canned food review photo so everyone will feel sorry for you.  You've never been starved in your life!  At least not since you came here.

Marcus:  What about the time Jan forgot to feed me until midnight?  Midnight!  I could have died of starvation before then.

Percy:  I don't think you'll ever have to worry about starving to death.  You're too full of baloney.

Marcus:  Hey, that sounds good.  I should check to see if we have any baloney in the fridge.  I could use a snack.

Taylor:  It means nonsense, Marcus, You're full of nonsense.

Micah:  We hope all of you in the United States (or wherever you might be then) have a wonderful Thanksgiving Thursday..  And don't give a thought to poor Marcus.  His definition of starving and your definition of starving are most likely not related.

Our Tasty Thanksgiving

Micah:  As mentioned in a previous post,  we Funny Farmers all got a special treat for Thanksgiving.  And as usual, when the food was being prepared, Marcus was on top of it.  Literally on top of it!

Marcus:  I was not on top of it.  I was just taking a good sniff of our Thanksgiving meal.  We canines had kibble topped with turkey stew for breakfast. Jan didn't have a special meal.  We offered her some of ours but she declined.

Cyndi:  Who are you kidding?  You wouldn't offer your own mother any of your meal!

Marcus:  Okay, so I didn't offer, but it did occur to me.  Fleetingly!

Click pic to enlarge.

Taylor:  We felines also had turkey stew.  Jan mixed it in with the freeze dried nuggets she's been crushing in our morning pate.  I hated the nuggets and wouldn't eat any!  But I have been eating them mixed with the new food we're sampling.  And I'm fussy!

Percy:  Petcurean kindly asked us to try some of their newest product for the holidays, NOW FRESH stew and pâté recipes for dogs and cats,  It's grain free with meat or fish and bone broth .  Can be used as a treat, as a meal, or as a topper.

Rusty:  It comes in recyclable pouches.  Jan's hands didn't work too well with opening the pouches, but she quickly learned to pop the sides and use scissors to cut the narrow strip from the top.  The boxes are convenient - just fold the top, drop the sides down, and pop it in the refrigerator.

Click pic to enlarge.

Marcus:  Leave it to Jan to mix up the pictures.  Bottom right is me waiting for my food to be served in my Private Dining Car.  Starting from upper left, I am waiting for an "okay" to begin eating, eating, and bowl cleaned.  I sure did enjoy my Thanksgiving meal.

Merci:  In case you missed my picture, it's not here.  I wasn't feeling great, but I cleaned my bowl too; however, I didn't want to pose.

Cyndi: We all enjoyed the tasty Petcurean Now recipes.

The cat and dog food was provided by Petcurean for our honest opinon.  We received no other compensation.

Happy Thanksgiving 2017

For all our US friends who celebrate Thanksgiving today, we hope you will take time to count your blessings and thank God for them.

Jan loves a Thanksgiving turkey meal, but she won't be having any today, however, she said she has a special treat for all of us furries for breakfast.

This is Jeannie (not Jan).  Jeannie was headed to a nursing home Saturday dressed as a turkey.  She found a young volunteer to model her turkey hat,  We imagine there was a lot of laughter and fun at the nursing home while she was there.

Cyndi:  Hey, let's not forget to join other bloggers in saying what we like about Blogville.

Merci:  Oh, yes, we can't forget to do that.  We love the way Blogville gets together to wrap their paws around those pets who are ill .

Micah: And also around those families who have lost a beloved furry.  Oh, and we can't forget the furry with a sick human.

Taylor:  Thanks Blogville is having their 3rd annual blog hop and we want to thank everyone for the times they have encouraged us.

Percy:  Hey, Marcus, what are you doing here?  I thought Rusty ... I mean, I thought the White House invited you to Thanksgiving dinner.  (A Quiet Thanksgiving)

Marcus:  When I arrived, I was told I was not expected and the door was closed in my face.

Rusty:  But you only left the house three minutes ago.  You can't possibly have traveled to Washington, DC and back already.

Marcus:  Washington?  I thought I was invited to the big white house across the street.

Even though we won't get the quiet day we hoped to have with Marcus at the White House, we are joining the Thankful Thursday blog hop at Brian's Home.

And the Thanks Blogville blog hop can be found at Da DB Boyz blog.

*** We're going to go ahead and post this tonight (Wednesday) since we aren't planning to be online until sometime tomorrow afternoon.  Have a blessed Thanksgiving! ***

A Quiet Thanksgiving

Rusty:  Hey, turn off the light.  I'm trying to sleep.

Micah:  I can't turn it off.  That's sunlight. Besides, you don't want to sleep away the day.  We have things to do.

Rusty:  Such as?

Micah:  Well, eat, for one.

Rusty:  And then?

Micah:  We can think about that.  There's no rush.

Rusty:  I've been thinking a lot about Buddy lately.  Yesterday would have been his 13th birthday.  It still seems strange he's not with us.  Especially when the phone rings.

Micah: Yes, he did love to howl when the phone rang.  He taught the other dogs to do the same, but they stopped when he passed away.

Rusty: It's been pretty quiet around here since.  Or it would be if Marcus would lower his volume.

Micah:  I would have thought his voice would have dropped a few dozen octaves during his four years.  How much longer do you think we'll have to listen to his his hyper screeching?

Rusty:  I don't know.  I've heard a human boy's voice usually changes in his teen years. I fear we'll all go deaf before Marcus reaches thirteen.

Micah:  We should add that to our list of things to be thankful for - most of us still have our hearing.

Rusty: .Jan said we're having a quiet Thanksgiving.  And I happen to know Marcus won't be here.

Micah:  Why not?

Rusty:  I emailed him an invitation for Thanksgiving dinner at the White House.  He accepted.

Canine Thanksgiving Dinner

Marcus:  Uh, Jan, I'm glad I get to eat in my Private Dining Car again, but you forgot to top my breakfast with the food we're reviewing.

Jan:  I did not forget!  I told you to Sit and Wait.  You grabbed your share off the top of your breakfast, sat down while you swallowed it, and now you're playing innocent.  It won't work!

Marcus:  But I am innocent.  I distinctly heard you say to Hit the Plate, so I did.

Jan:  Do you need your ears cleaned?

Marcus:  No, I just need some of the Merrick grain free Thanksgiving Dinner in my bowl for the taste test.

Buddy:  But you've already tasted it.  Look at those pieces of deboned turkey, sweet potato, carrots, green beans, granny smith apples, peas ...  (A full list of ingredients can be found at Chewy.com.)

Merci:  It comes in two sizes.  We have the 3.2oz size.  There is also a 13.2 oz. case.  It sure does look tasty.  And it smells good too.

Buddy:  You want me to WHAT?  To cover myself since I'm unsuitably dressed for public dining?

Merci:  Just because Jan covered you with a star, Buddy, does not make you the star of this post!

Buddy:  Stop griping and dig in.

Marcus:  Jan, you dressed Buddy with a star.  Won't you dress my breakfast with another spoonful?  Or three?

Merci:  Ignore Marcus.  He's not starving.  We all loved the Merrick Thanksgiving Dinner.

Thanksgiving 2016

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us on Jan's Funny Farm. May your day be blessed and filled with gratitude.

We are thankful for every furry and human who visits.  We hope - at least most of the time - you leave with a smile when you do.

Are you doing anything special to celebrate?  We will be spending a quiet day at home watching Jan try to play catch-up.  Believe it or not, she's still trying to get this old house "winterized".

It is also Thanks Blogville Day over at Dory's Backyard.  We're supposed to tell why we are thankful for Blogville.  Why wouldn't we be?  It's a warm, happy, accepting community where we make friends and have fun.  Just as in the Cat Blogosphere, we laugh together, encourage one another, and share tears over losses.

And, as is our custom, we are joining the Thankful Thursday blog hop at Brian's Home. Any day is a day to be thankful, but today is a special celebration.

Feline Thanksgiving Dinner

Rusty:  Hey, what is this?

Percy:  It's the Merrick Grain Free Thanksgiving Day Dinner we're going to review today.

Cyndi:  I think Jan is hoping we don't like it.

Taylor:  Why?

Cyndi:  Evidently the cans are hard to open.  They're pop top but the top doesn't pop easily.

Taylor:  Do you suppose it's because she's old?

Cyndi:  She claims it's because the cans don't want to part with the contents.

Rusty:  That's possible.  This Thanksgiving Dinner is good.  I wouldn't want to part with it either.

Percy:  You do know cans don't get attached to their content, don't you?

Micah:  Did anyone check out what's in it?

Rusty:  Yes, I did.  It has deboned turkey, turkey broth, deboned duck, chicken liver, peas, dried egg product, natural flavor, dried potato, sweet potato, carrots, cranberries, organic alfalfa -  A complete list of vitamins and minor ingredients can be found on Chewy's Merrick Purrfect Bistro Grain-Free Thanksgiving Day Dinner Minced in Gravy Canned Cat Food page.

According to Chewy, the key benefits are -

    Grain-free recipe.
    Added vitamins and minerals.
No artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.
    Great for all life stages.

Both the 3 oz cans and the 5.5 oz cans are on sale at Chewy's now.

Taylor:  Why does it have vegetables in it?  Are we vegetarians?

Cyndi:  I'm not!  Humans are always telling children to eat their vegetables.  Maybe they think we're kids.

Percy:  This tastes pretty good.  Just don't tell Jan we're all eating our vegetables.

Micah:  Yeah, she'll freak out.

Percy:  There are lots of little chunks in gravy.  Jan doesn't mind us eating this gravy because it just has a little gravy, not gravy as half the can contents.  Do we have any of this  Merrick Purrfect Bistro Grain-Free Thanksgiving Day Dinner Minced in Gravy Canned Cat Food left for Thanksgiving day?

Rusty:  Yes, Jan said she is saving some for us so we can have a turkey dinner too.

Cyndi:  Let's ask Jan for seconds on Thursday so she can have extra fun popping the stubborn tops.

The product we tasted was provided by Chewy, but we were not paid for our review.  Chewy is not responsible for the content.

FFHT Turkey Thief

MARCUS:  Oh, what are those?  They look like turkeys with the feathers still attached.

RUSTY:  They are.  Wild turkeys.  I wonder where Jan took this picture?

CYNDI:  In wild turkey country, obviously.

MERCI:  And that would be where?

MICAH:  Don't they have a state named after them?

BUDDY:  No.  You must be thinking of Tennessee, but they're famous for their Wild Turkey bourbon, not wild turkeys.

PERCY:  And you would know that how?

BUDDY:  I did a web search for wild turkeys.

SAM:  I sure would like to catch those wild turkeys.  There are five.  One for each of us and the cats could split the fifth.  The fifth wild turkey, not a fifth of bourbon.

MARCUS:  Have any of you ever caught a wild turkey before?  Did you eat it all or spit out the feathers?

RUSTY:  None of us have ever gone wild turkey hunting.  That's a good question.  The turkey Jan brought home for Thanksgiving was bald and smelled heavenly in the oven.

MERCI:  I wish we could have had some of it.

MICAH:  Oh, it tasted better than it smelled in the oven.

PERCY:  How do you know that?

MICAH:  I had some.

CYNDI:  Jan gave you some and we didn't get any?  How did you rate?

MICAH:  I didn't "rate".  I helped myself.  It was cooling on the stovetop and ... well, you know how I like to nap there when it's cold and Jan isn't around.

BUDDY:  And you just helped yourself?

MICAH:  Well, there it was under my nose, so, yes, I helped myself.

SAM:  And you didn't share?

MICAH:  I didn't want to call attention to what I was doing.  So after I ate all that turkey I could handle, I jumped down and napped in the big chair.  It was a great Thanksgiving.

**********

BUDDY:  Evidently when we write one of these monthly Fractured Fryday Hairy Tails posts, we will have to put a disclaimer on it so you will know it's greatly exaggerated.

SAM:  This week we had to use the phrase "after I ate all that turkey".

CYNDI:  Yes, Micah DID eat a good bit of Jan's chicken cooling on the stove recently but she did not buy and roast a turkey for Thanksgiving.  We haven't had a working oven for over a year.

PERCY:  So this time Micah is innocent.  But next post he could very well be guilty!  So don't be fooled.  Strange things do happen around here but this wasn't one of them.

MICAH:  We actually had ham yesterday.  Thank you, Mr. Mark (for whom Marcus was named), for providing the ham and telling Jan she had to share with us.

MERCI:  But the entire post is not a "furry tail".  Jan did take the picture of the wild turkeys.

Thanksgiving 2015

Today is Thanksgiving in the United States and we would like to wish everyone a heart overflowing with gratitude. For various reasons, many humans will be alone today, so we pray you will have an extra measure of uplifting peace mixed with contentment.  We have each other, so we won't be alone.

What are you thankful for?  For one thing, we are thankful for you!

Pepi Smart Dog's Thankful Thursday blog hop is most appropriate for today, so we will hop on over as soon as we can get online.

Thanksgiving 2013

And Happy Hanukkah to all our Jewish friends.

Note: We hope Blogger put the correct photo in this time.  It wouldn't let us change the photo last night and we can't tell if it has the corrected size or not today.  So if there is suddenly a big blank space where the graphic should be, blogger has posted the deleted graphic and it has gone POOF!  But know, we do wish all who celebrate a Happy Thanksgiving!

And to everyone else, a wonderful day!

Happy Thanksgiving 2012

Okay, you don't have to remind us.  We know this is an old Dr Seuss Day graphic and tomorrow is Thanksgiving.  But we need to take our hats off in a bit, so we grabbed the first hat pic we found.  Hang in with us..

Monday we posted the musical video Angel Flight about the USAF pilots who fly their fallen brothers home.  It's a beautiful song.  And it even makes grown men teary.  Today Jan looked up Radney Foster, who co-wrote and performs it, on Facebook.  Then she looked up Darden Smith, the guy who had the original idea and asked Foster to help him with it.  There she found a link to something called Song Writing With Soldiers, a retreat for soldiers - young or old - to get together, talk about their experiences and write songs together.

“This isn’t about guys sitting around and singing songs,” said Anne Marie Dougherty, director of the Bob Woodruff Foundation. “This is about suicide prevention and giving them hope and confidence to get on with their life.”  We hope you will visit SongWritingWithSoldiers and read about the program.

Okay, now we need the hats -
We'd like to take our hats off to Darden Smith and all those associated / involved with this program. What a great way to help men and women.

And if you haven't watched the Angel Flight video yet, we hope you will.  Since we only learned of this beautiful song recently, we didn't realize it was written in 2009, and has been sung at at least a few "fallen soldier" funerals.

We're supposed to be thinking of things we're grateful for this week.  Actually every day, but especially as Thanksgiving approaches.  We know we have a lot to be thankful for - a roof over our heads, kibble in the bowls, toys for Sam to eat, etc.

And you know Jan has to be thankful for us.  She better be!  What would she do without us?

We give her a reason to get up in the morning - walk us woofies and feed all us furries!

We keep her limber bending over to pick up everything the kitties have dumped on the floor (for the umpteenth time).

We keep her dancing.  (Stepping over yakked up hairballs.)

And we keep her singing.  (Merci, stop piddling around and get your butt in here!  Rusty, don't you dare run out that door!  Percy, stop picking on Micah! Percy, you're supposed to pee IN the pan, not pee OVER it!. *Notice who gets picked on the most.*  Not very melodious but Jan can't carry a tune anyway.)

But for some reason she's been sitting down in the dumps this week so we should close and go find her in case she's gotten lost again.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Don't Call Fred on Thanksgiving

Laughter won't help you digest your meal, but if you fall off the chair laughing, it will count as exercise.  So we have a short video for you today.

We hope Buddy doesn't get any ideas from it. He hates the answering machine and has always howled when it came on. A few years ago he started howling on the first ring of the phone.  He stopped waiting for the answering machine to come on.And he taught Sam and Merci to "howl" with him. They aren't hounds so they aren't as skilled at it as Buddy is but Merci sings soprano and Sam sings tenor, so together they make a lot of noise!

This is Fred and he doesn't like the telephone to ring. So he answers it. Good thing he can't howl. No one would ever call back.

If the video doesn't play, click here.
