Hey, Sam here with today's post. It's going to be a quick one while Jan takes a short break from yelling at the monitor and threatening to beat up the Zazzle employee who came up with the dumb idea to make us reclassify everything in our store.
She's only finished two folders so far and the problem is that all the designs in them are - not a dog and not a cat, but a dog AND a cat. But there is no dog AND cat category, so she puts them in animals/pets and omits that dog or cat step and then finds that most are "dog" and a few are "cat." She's hopping mad at this ridiculous waste of her time, so we're all in hiding till she stops for the day.
Enjoy the video on Jack the sheep who thinks he's a sheepdog. Yep, he even herds his relatives like a dog. We really enjoyed the video and think you will too.
If the video doesn't play, click here.
If you give your dog Milk Bone, you might want to check this "voluntary pull" of certain boxes due to mold. http://www.truthaboutpetfood.com/articles/milk-bone-dog-biscuit-product-pull.html
And now, if you'll excuse me, I hear footsteps. Bye.

P&G Expands Voluntary Limited Recall of Specialized Dry Pet Foods Due to Possible Health Risk
CINCINNATI, July 30, 2010 – The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) (NYSE:PG) is voluntarily expanding its recall to include veterinary and some specialized dry pet food as a precautionary measure because it has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella. No salmonella-related illnesses have been reported.
The affected products are sold in veterinary clinics and specialty pet retailers throughout the United States and Canada. No canned food, biscuits/treats or supplements are affected by this announcement. A full listing of UPC codes can be found at www.iams.com.
These products are made in a single, specialized facility. In cooperation with FDA, P&G determined that some products made at this facility have the potential for salmonella contamination. As a precautionary measure, P&G is recalling all products made at this facility.
Consumers who have purchased the specific dry pet foods listed should discard them. People handling dry pet food can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with surfaces exposed to this product. Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.
Pets with Salmonella infections may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If left untreated, pets may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.
For further information or a product replacement or refund call P&G toll-free at 877-340-8823 (Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM EST).

Freedom Train and Iams Recall
This is a video of the Freedom Train Animal Transport. There are some active transport drivers among pet bloggers, such as Khyra's and River's moms and others we can't remember at the moment. This is another group that saves a lot of dogs from certain death and transports them to a new life.
Their embed doesn't work, so visit Storyteller. Rhonda Sims. On a Mission For Dogs to watch the video.
We want to thank Gotchi for the Versatile Blogger award. We're posting it before we forget but we'll have to pass it on later.
Question: Any of you know a fun graphics program for making fun pictures instead of just the usual?
Iams is having a voluntary recall on certain cans of cat food due to a thiamine vitamin (B1) deficiency. You can read the details here.
Pepper of Paws Volunteer (Animal Shelter Volunteer Life) could use your vote for best whiskers in a photo contest. Just sign in if you're already a Petfinder member or sign up if you're not. Name, date of birth, password and email address are all that are needed to sign up to vote once -- or preferably to vote daily until June 21. Details and voting link can be found on Pepper's post.
Have a purring and tail wagging day.

Update on Chai
Remember Chai, the dog who had to have his tongue amputated because of a defective toy? Eventually, Four Paws recalled the toy and redesigned it. But how has that worked?
You can read Chai's story here. Just copy and paste the link to the videot into your browser. Or click here to view the news video.
PS -- Sammy, Miles & Billy left a comment, asking about Carrol's dogs, so we're adding a quick update here.

We don't know whether Carrol's request to the court for extra time was granted or what. But thankfully, Rainsville hadn't shown up as of yesterday. We're really purring those dogs all make it out of there.
They had gone back up to 10 for a few days because a rescue pulled out of taking 3, but they are presently down to 5. Carrol's Green Acres
We are really purring all those dogs are soon safe!

Pet Toothpaste Recall
Bet you never expected to see a toothpaste recall alert on the Funny Farm. But since so many pet owners are brushing their dogs and cats teeth nowadays, we thought we would post this important warning for Pet Edge Toothpaste in our journal.
The FDA has found a poisonous chemical, diethylene glycol (DEG), in certain toothpastes imported from China. Diethylene glycol can be found in antifreeze and other solvents. It can cause headaches and illness, or in high doses, renal failure or death. (You should never allow your pet to lap up any spilled antifreeze. ) The FDA has been warning consumers for several months to avoid using tubes of toothpaste labeled as made in China.
This includes Top Performance® ProDental? Toothpaste
with Toothbrush kit 1.4 oz., Item No. TP128. It comes in :
Beef flavor: UPC 721343128151 and
Mint flavor: UPC 721343128564
If your staff should have any of this on hand, whack it into the trashcan! Protect yourself and your staff. Check the labels of your human's toothpaste and if it was imported from China, whack it into the trashcan too.
Thanks to The National Pet Foundation for the warning in their newsletter. You can sign up to receive their pet recall alerts on their website.
