Veterans Day 2008

We decided we would give our vets a personal salute today but use photos instead of words. So we borrowed a few photos Jan took this morning at the local Veterans Day Ceremony at the courthouse square. There was a band and a large group of cadets in the street behind those in attendance, but, unfortunately, even though Jan was standing on a hill, the tops of their heads could barely be seen behind the crowd. (So we didn't include those photos.)

"Amazing Grace" played on the bagpipes.

The bugler plays "Taps."

The sign reads: For those who served. We honor our troops.

Happy Remembrance Day to all our friends in Canada, the UK and Australia!

A hearty thank you to all the veterans who now serve or have served their country, from JFF - Crystal, Cotton, Merci, Cyndi, Percy, Cameron, Buddy, Rusty & Sam -- and Jan!

And on a sad note, late last night we learned our favorite hamster GirlGirl has died. We will miss her.

  1. Thank you to Jan for serving.

Owr Grampa was in the Army but he says he's not like a "real" veteran 'cos he din't serve in a war. We say he still served and we thank him and ALL veterans.

PS from Jazzy - thank you so much for the wonderful Gotcha day gift ideas! We'll see how many mom will let me do.

  7. Thank you to all how have served their country! I enjoyed your post with the photos today. I noticed that their looked like many WW II veterans there. Moth was at a restaurant today and a military person dressed in his uniform, that was decorated with so many things. After she finished her meal she went over to where he was sitting and thanked him for the service he has given to his country. They then talked, I think he was probably as old as the dad of the house here, and story were shared with each other.
In spite of the difficulities our country is facing all who have served in any branch of military have given us all of the freedoms that we have today. Bless every one of them.
So sorry to hear about Girl Girl. I know she has met Roscoe by now and they are becoming good friends. She will forever be free of illness and hurt.

I was so sorry to hear about GirlGirl...she was my first hammie friend. She will be missed.
Oh, and about PooPoo....the name my mom gave her when she was a kitten was Niki. But when numerous poops appeared next to the couch when mom came home from work, and mom had to say, "did you poopoo here?" all the time......the poopoo name stuck, and hence PooPoo had arrived. That was 14 years ago!
