Buddy Squeaks His Post

Hey, Buddy here with today's post.  Finally.  We've been wanting to do this for a couple weeks but Jan -  Well, let's just say this is Jan's fault.  Again. 

Oh, good.  We received a package in the mail from Baby Patches.  Jan opened it and it squeaked.  Squeaks are always welcome around here.  Sam and I are the Squeaker Kings.  

 See, I already have it singing.  Cyndi came over to see what Sam and I are up to.  

Percy came over to see what all the noise is.  It's a gecko and it's got 4 large squeakers in the body and they're supposed to keep on squeaking even after we tug, bully and puncture the toy.  As if we would ever!

Okay, so Sam and I have chewed a few squeaky toys into rags.  But I was not looking for the puppy trapped inside when I did.  And rumors that I talk back to squeaky toys is greatly exaggerated.  Maybe somewhat exaggerated.  Okay, the rumors are almost true.

Jan took our squeaker away so Merci could have a turn.  (Ignore the egg crate pieces on the carpet and the holes in the bed.  Buddy dug holes in it and spread egg crate all around the living room for Jan to pick up.) 

Here I am trying to take it away from Jan.  She likes to play with the squeaker too.

Jan had some video of us chasing the toy in the pen outside, but she deleted it .  Something about looking ridiculous with the camera panning in every direction every time she bent over to pick up the toy to throw.  (We never look ridiculous in a video so we'll give you one guess who did.)

We love the multiple squeakers.  I love to poke them hard with my foot or use my teeth to make them talk .. uh, squeak.  Sam does too.  And we love it when Jan squeaks the gecko and throws it for us.  We chase it and mock fight over which of us gets to poke the squeakers. 

The drawback to these is that the toys are not stuffed and we couldn't pick them up by the head or tail.  (The tail has a nice rattle, by the way.)  And we couldn't get a grip to pick them up around the squeakers either.  We found this a drawback, since we could chase them but not fetch them when Jan would try to play with us.  Some stuffing for our big jaws to latch onto would be welcome.  (Hint, hint.)

The toy is our size - large.  Merci is a small dog so this was too large for her but the gecko comes in two sizes.  This is the larger 4 squeaker size. You can read more about the gecko dog toy in Baby Patches' store.

We Remember

Hey, Cyndi here. Since this is the Weekend of Remembrance on the CB, we have been remembering our handsome mancat Crystal, our sisters Jenny and Grayce, and all those who came before us. We've also been thinking of all those affected by the terrible storms and events of the past few months. We are happy when we hear another blogger is safe, but sad for the loss of lives, both human and furries.

The Weekend of Remembrance continues. There are candles lit for "all furriends affected by bad weather in Midwest & Southeastern US, all Japanese critter suffering from the big earthquake, and for all our furriends of the CB who left us way to early."

There is a party over at Floof & Fur for kitty bloggers who left for the bridge, Sweet Praline is the mascot. Be sure to stop by and join the celebration. They are are no longer physically with us, but they live on in our hearts and memories.

These are hosted by the Cat Blogosphere but the CB has many woofie and bunny friends who might like to stop by and share memories too. Freckles of Freckles & Deb recently left on her final adventure and Sugie Bunny of Raspberry Rabbits also. Richie had to leave just a few days before his shared birthday celebration with his sister Ronnii. There are too many to recount, but you know who they are.  You are in our thoughts!

Merci Defines BSL as Bull

Hey, Merci here. Since Buddy, Sam and I are dogs, I want to do this post on a serious subject. Today, it's Lennox and other dogs. Tomorrow it could be any one of us - or you. But first I need to explain the title.

Yes, BSL is bull!  All us Funny Farmers believe this.  When used this way, it could have one of two meanings:
1) Obscene word for unacceptable behavior.
2) A serious and ludicrous blunder.

We need to point out that since we're not allowed to use bad words, we are using definition #2.

BSL stands for breed specific legislation and we believe it is ... well, to be polite, a serious and ludicrous blunder for any area to condemn all dogs of a certain breed to death.

Yesterday the family of 5-year-old Lennox went to court in Belfast, United Kingdom, to try to save their dog from a death sentnce - and lost. They plan to appeal and continue the battle, but they have not seen their dog since it was taken away from them May 19, 2010. Lennox didn't bite or attack anyone. He didn't do anything threatening or dangerous. The family has complied with every local law, but he was seized because tape measurements classify him as a pit bull.

This video shows Lennox, happy and healthy "pre-arrest" and a recent photo of him sitting inside a small cement cell with sawdust on the floor - not a healthy environment for any dog! But then, they're planning to kill him, so why worry about his health?

Texan, Cells and Smiles

Sam We have a couple of quick items for you today to make you smile.

But before we get to them, we'd like to send out get well wishes to a friend who is very active in assisting with dog rescue and transport. He had a scary heart procedure done and we're glad the old grouch (his words) will be able to continue his mission of helping The Orphans, as he calls the homeless and unwanted animals.. If you don't know Mark Crider, here's a news video from 2009.



He does a lot to help to help pets, including facing down those who ignore the Texas laws against leaving a dog living on the end of a chain without shelter, food or water. We're glad he is still with us and wish him a speedy and complete recovery. We'd all take our ten gallon hats off to you, Mark, but we don't own any.  We hope you'll settle for some purrs and tail wags.

If we can find enough change in our typing chair from Jan's pockets, we're thinking of getting her one of these cell phones for Christmas.  The email said you have to be old as dirt to understand it but since Jan more than qualifies, we think she'd like one.

We like this LOL from I has a HotDog.  And it's true.  We drive Jan nuts trying to figure out what we've done. 

Visiting Snuzzy

We have a few minutes online while Jan grabs a snack (peanut butter on bagel, which she will eat all by herself and not share with us!), so we popped round to Snuzzy's over at Dogster.  We haven't had a chance to drop by for a while.  Skeezix writes the Cat's Meow for Dogster, and he pitched in to help Snuzzy a while back when he was moving.  Uh, maybe we better be clear -- Snuzzy was moving, not Skeezix.. Skeez posted for Snuzzy temporarily. If you haven't been by, or haven't been by in a while, he has some cute photo posts.

Well, here comes Jan, so we have to get off the computer.

Catster and Dogster

Okay, all you gents and lady cats and dogs. Do you see those happy, friendly faces above? Well, those are our faces and we're all on Catster or Dogster, ready to visit some friends. Well, all except Crystal. We wish he was here to join us but as you know he left us for the RB in January.

We asked Jan to help us fill in the information on the 8 pages but she just sits and stares, mumbling something about she just can't face typing 8 stories again. And she can't think where to look for bits and pieces already posted. Her mind is sooooo boggled at the mere thought! And we don't know where to begin to find old friends there, let alone new ones. You'd think we were orphans for the lack of bio info on all our pages. But you know we're all rescues and that none of us are purebred. But we're cute. And we have pearly white teeth when we smile. We haven't bitten any of our friends lately. Well, actually never. Why not come visit us and make friends or renew acquaintances?

We each inherited Jan's short memory when she adopted us. So we decided to do a post to let you know we are not moving away or retiring, just expanding our horizons. Little by little we hope to set up our pages.

Sunshine and Olive

Christopher gave us the Sunshine Award Friday and although we received it on February 1st, we are very pleased to receive it again, especially as Christopher left us this message: Thanks for your write-up about the disabled pets book. Since I am disabled myself, you are like a ray of Sunshine!

He is referring to yesterday's post on disabled pets. We titled it "Perfect Pets" because each one is perfect for someone. Christopher was born blind and is obviously a ray of sunshine to his family. How do we know? His nickname is "Mamma's Little Boy."

Oh, when we stopped by Christopher's, we noticed he is on Catster. This reminded us that we kitties recently joined Catster. And the doggies joined Dogster. We joined so recently we haven't even had a chance to build our pages yet. That's kind of a daunting task, to consider doing 8 separate pages. We wish we had taken the time to join before Crystal died so he could be on there with us. He was part of the Funny Farm since long before we started this journal.
