Benefit Car Show and Updates

Remember the dog shot in the shoulder with an arrow? (If you don't remember him, you can click on the label "dog with arrow" below this post.) He had his surgery and is now named Bo and he is "the shelter dog." We feel sorry for the poor guy. That shelter is no place for any animal to have to live. We think he should have gone to a loving home where he would be loved and walked and ..... Anyway, he was at the car show to benefit the local Humane Society Saturday. His shoulder is still draining and he limps on that leg but he is still a sweet, handsome dog!

It looks like we need to emphasize the fact that Bo is not up for adoption and won't be! He is officially the shelter dog and will live there. We are against this. No animal should have to live in a "house" of death, which is what the shelter basically is, since most of the animals that go in do not come out alive. But he is not there temporarily, or until his wound heals, or until someone opts to adopt him. There were a lot who offered but the shelter wanted him to live at the shelter and we can't do anything about it.

If you want to read about it, there is a link in that post to the Humane Society's Paws column about it. Jan says it was a terrific day, except for the standing on her feet part, since she was/is still trying to recuperate from mowing the lawn.

And as an update on the shelter and Our Friend, Our Friend and the group decided it was time to stop taking the photos at the shelter. She's kind of sad about it but believes it to be the right decision. She hopes she will be able to help animals in some other way, somewhere her help will be wanted and she will be respected.

  3. We remember Bo, his shoulder looks like it is healing nicely. We do wishes he had a home of his own.

We will purr & bark that your friend finds a way to help animals without having to deal with mean beans. We are also sending some happy thoughts her way, if you would be so kind as to pass them along to her.

  4. We remember Bo. We are surprised and sad that his wound still hasn't completely healed, but we are very happy to see he has put on some much needed weight! We sure hope Bo finds a Forever Home soon.

How do people like Little Hitler manage to get put into a position like like that? Surely someone much more compassionate who truly has a heart for these sweet babies would be much better suited for the position he now holds.

  5. we hope that Bo does get a home of his own. where we live, the shelters do not let any animal go to a home until they are fully healed and the families are fully vetted. This may take months, depending on the injury. perhaps this shelter is doing the same? perhaps they feel that he just needs time so that when he goes to a home it will be successful?

we know that your furriend will be able to find another way to help animals. that sichuashun was not a good one for anybody.

  9. Thanks for updating us on Bo. Glad to see he is on the mend. We are sorry to hear that he will not be adopted into a loving family which is what every pet deserves. We also do not like the idea of him living at the shelter when surely a loving furever home could be found for him. Hopefully that will change.

  11. That is really too bad, every pup deserves a place to call home and that place is not IT. Maybe one day something will change for Bo.

  12. Heya Guys,
How y'all doing. I was "the shelter dog" in a kill shelter in southwest Virginia. The people working there didn't want me to be terminated so I was made the greeter so I wouldn't be put down. Then they figured that since I'm a Golden Retriever maybe they could get a Golden retriever shelter to take me and sure enough, Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary took me away so that i wouldn't be put down. And then I was adopted by The Bumpass Hounds and now have a very loving and caring home. Being the shelter dog is better than being dead but it is NOT as good as having a family home. Someone should report this to PETA.

  13. He sure is a great woofie. Why does Little Hitler want him to live at the shelter? Isn't it great if there are people who wants to adopt him?

  15. We agree with Gandalf & Grayson. How does Little Hitler, so uncompassionate, get to call the shots in this case? bo deserves a loving and caring furever home of his own, especially after what he's been through.

ps. It really makes me sad about that poor dog. I wish there was someting I could do! I was a shelter cat myself and I understand what it means to live in a place like that!

  18. I'm sure plenty of people would want to provide Bo a nice home. I hope they change their minds and let someone adopt him.

  19. It's just so unfair that poor Bo has to live in that "house of death." Jan, YOU should be running that shelter! Your heart is in the right place and we know you'd be fair and kind to both the animals and humans who want to help. If only that were possible.

You made the right decision and we're hoping you find some other way to help the animals and be appreciated and respected. Good luck!
