Serious Thinking

We've been doing some serious thinking. We hope Jan is going to be around for a long time, but what will we do if she isn't? The bills will still come due. The funeral home will want a big deposit. Who will pay all the funeral expenses? More importantly, how will we pay for our food while we grieve? We do eat a lot, you know!

So we looked into life insurance for Jan and found a company online called BurialInsurance.org.

We're kind of new to this insurance thing, so we were intrigued by the types of insurance they sell: Funeral Insurance, Senior Life Insurance, Affordable Life Insurance, No Medical Exam Life Insurance, and Burial Insurance for Seniors.

We have a couple of questions for them. 1) Does Affordable Life Insurance mean we furries can insure Jan for whatever pocket change she drops on the floor and can't bend over to reach each month? 2) Why isn't there a category for Jan - insurance for the Forgetful and Creaky?

We checked on burial insurance by state and found in Georgia we could insure Jan even if she's 90 years old. We think she passed that age at least 240 years ago, but maybe they could make an exception.

If you live in the United States and you or your loved one is a senior, you can check out resources for them at USA.gov.

  2. My dad had a burial policy that was purchased about 20 years ago. When he died this February, I changed a lot of the plans that had been made (not by him), and the funeral ended up being way less than the policy value. I was shocked that they sent me a check for the remainder. I think burial policies are wonderful. It's so nice not to have to worry about the costs when there are so many other things going on.

ANYWAY (Fuzzy and Zoe taking over for our mom), we hope that Jan doesn't need a burial policy for about a squillion years!

  6. Our human has made arrangements to give a sizeable amount of her estate to Best Friends so they will take us if there is no one else. However, as everyone loves us we suspect that someone would take us in!

  7. Oh, insurance? One more bill to be paid. I don't think we can afford it, not at present. SS has arranged for me to be looked after if she kicks the bucket before I do. She figures they can't sue her for unpaid bills if she is dead.

  8. The mom worries about this too..She has term life insurance through her work, though, but needs to have a will to state what she wants, what that money would be used for, etc. Right now her mother and father know her wishes, and she has it all written down, but if she outlives them, then she really better get off her butt and get a will.

  12. TBT says he is leavin us a fortune. But we suspect that means all the canned Stinky Goodness in the house an taxi fare ta the shelter. We have suggested ta him that he make better arrangements.

If not, we may have ta nibble on his toes at night until he changes things.
