Chihuahuas Corner Cougar

Our first thought was, is this for real? But evidently it is.

3 toy Chihuahuas cornered a real live, angry mountain lion in a garage and held it at bay until the stunned owner woke up, took some photos, called 9-1-1 and two Riverside County Sheriff's deputies arrived. And then .... and then finally, nearly an hour later, officers with the Department of Fish and Game arrived with a tranquilizer gun. What happened to the cougar is unclear. But the three Chihuahuas are fine, though we suspect all three might have a severe case of laryngitis.

You can read the news story here.

  8. Another case of a blur in the line that exists between the modern world of civilization and nature. So very sad about the mountain lion.

Mom use to have Pekingese dogs. One day they started running down the hall barking. What was unusual was the barking. They never barked. When Mom went into the bedroom they had their heads under the bed, still barking. Then Mom heard it. Reooooow! She got on the floor and looked under to see a Bobcat. A really, really hissed off Bobcat. After grabbing the dogs she closed the door and called Wildlife Rescue. It took a few hours for them to get there. Mom has some photos of the Bobcat once he was caught but before he was put in the truck. Maybe we can remind her to dig them out and scan them.

  11. I can believe it. Chihuahuas have such brave little hearts and can be quite fearless. It's tragic that the cougar was killed.

  15. We are not surprised. Mr. R's mom used to have a Pomeranian that would stop coal trucks in the middle of the road.

  26. Wow,what brave chihuahuas. Sure hope they didn't kill the mountain lion. Poor thing just didn't know such little things could be so noisy and didn't know what to do. Then when the big guys arrived on scene, it even got noisier. Mom actually had a dog that got laryngitis. She had to put him in a kennel while on vacation when she got home and picked him up, he had no bark left. They drove them nuts barking. Fortunately they weren't gone for a long time.

  30. Small woofies are so brave. So it means I is brave too because I is smaller than the Giant Kitty. Well, at least it means I is braver than him, right?
