Our Hero

As many of you know, we have been offline much of the last 3 weeks. But we are almost back.

And we want to thank the human mainly responsible for that. Our friend, Mr Doug (Jan's brother). He ordered a new hard drive and (whatever) , then he took her computer home with him last Thursday evening. He brought it back late this afternoon and -- Oh, dear, we're getting just like Jan. We've got leaky eyes over this too.

If you remember, the second hard drive died, taking all her photos of us (and everyone else) with it, along with all her stories. Well, they're back. Mr Doug painstakingly retrieved them and they are on the new hard drive.

He had to do a lot of work, reloading some of her programs and loading some new ones to do the job. We know he didn't have everything he needed to work with, but he's good at improvising, and we want to let him know we really appreciate all his effort. Because we know he put a lot of hours into this.

He's not done yet. We still don't have a CD/DVD drive, for example. And it will take Jan a while to reorganize --- but we think we're almost back. (Jan is still in shock that her photos were recovered!)

Buddy: I don't know why you're all so surprised. Mr Doug has always been my hero. He saved my life when I was a little puppy!

Thank you, Mr Doug!
From all of us at JFF -
Crystal, Cotton, Merci, Cyndi, Percy, Cameron, Buddy, Rusty & Sam -- and Jan, of course

On the sad side, though, we learned this morning that in addition to losing our friends Skeeter and Cloud Chaser yesterday, Kelly and River's sister Sasha have also left for the bridge. There are a lot of tears among bloggers today.

  1. Yet another hero!

The AO4 Dad was a hero to their mom since he figured out how to save some of their things -

Humans never seem to realize how much they treasure their files until they khan't find 'em!

I'm the envy of my SMS furiends - they khan't wait to hear what I learn from this logikh textbook I've got khoming my way!

PeeEssWoo: I think woo JFF NON-bipeds need to buy your mom an external drive fur bakhkup stuff!

  2. I don't know Mr Doug at all but I like him a lot. He is one sweel guy to do all of that. Yeahhhhh for Mr. Doug.
Today is indeed a sad in the blogging world of the four paws. Too many left us leaving families and friends with great heavy hearts.

  3. Mom is very familiar with the Mr Dougs of the world. This is great news!

  4. Many thanks to Mr. Dougs!! Welcome back to Jan & everyone to Blogger world!! :)

We don't know any of your friends who left for the bridge but since we've known everyone on Jan's funny farm, we think we're all friends. Our thoughs are with all our friends.

  5. Wow, that sounds like a lot of work on the computer stuff. It's good that you are back!!

  6. Now that is heroic! What patience he has.

  7. Wow, that is just great! Hihihi, I can imagine the shock of losing all the photos and then having them back.
Glad, Mr. Doug helped so pawsomely.

It is such a sad time at present.

  8. Yay for you being almost back and a big YAY (and some purrs) for Mr Doug. We missed you all.

    One word for when you get a cd/dvd again - B A C K U P!

Aye it's been a sad old week.

  9. Yayyy for Mr. Doug for getting all your photos back and for getting you back online. Our mum backs everything up now. She backs everything up to her Seagate Backup and she puts everything on USB Flash drives as well so she's got two backups.

  10. Mr Doug is Pawsome!!!!!! Please tell him we said thank you very much for helping our friends get back online as we have missed them bunches and are looking forward to their return. We would give him some mousies as a reward, but the beans we know get all weird when we try to give them mousies. The Mom in fact lets out a horrible scream and runs away from us.

Our eyes are leaking over all our furr friends who have gone to the bridge. These holidays are going to be very sad. ~S,S & C

  11. Hooray for Mr. Doug! Please give him a smoochie for me!

  12. Mr. Doug is amazing. So glad you were able to get your pictures back.

Thank you for writing about Sasha. She was a sweet, tiny girl who was never any trouble.

    love & wags,

  13. That is great Mr. Doug was able to retrieve the photos! Mr. Doug is truly a hero :-D

  14. Mom wanted to take a sledgehammer to our computer just a few short weeks ago....
    Tail wags!

  15. Yay for Mr. Doug the Hero! What a joy to get your pictures back! This has reminded me that I'm well overdue for a backup. I keep thinking that I should backup not just to my second drive and external drive but to DVD too, and print them out on paper but, well, you know...

Thank you so much for your comment. I feel very blessed. What a sad week! Now Sasha! I didn't know her but will visit her family coz I know how much they're hurting.

    Luvzya'll! xxx

  16. I'm so glad you got your computer working again. And that all your pictures got saved.

  17. We are so happy for you that Mr. Doug got the computer working for you! Computer troubles are the pits! And losing your pictures would have been really terrible.

But, we are sad to hear about the loss of your friends as they head for the bridge.

  18. Mr. Doug, you're a good guy! :)

  19. Cheers for Mr. Doug the Hero. It has been a really sad week. I didn't know about Sasha, but I will go visit and leave a friendly word.

  20. Welcome back, all. We're so sorry to hear about your friends crossing the bridge: that's very sad news indeed.

  21. Mr. Doug is a very nice guy. Concatulations on getting your pooter back up and mostly operational again! Get a backup drive!

  22. Wow, Mr. Doug must be a genius to recover your photos! Yay! Yay! Yay! That is pawesome! Mom is a bit neurotic about backing up photos. She would hate to lose them.

  23. Mom lost her hard drive also a couple of weeks ago and she thought that she had lost all her pictures too. She was very upset but Sis's boyfriend got them all back. 70 Gig worth. Dad has bought mom so DVD-r's so she can back them all up. One good thing a lot of the best ones she posted so if she did loose them she had all those out there online.. Ya for blogging.
We are so sorry to hear about all your friends.

    Big Sloppy Kisses
    Gus, Louie and Callie

  24. Big day tomorrow! Hope everything goes good at the studios!!

Thanks for coming by for a visit. We love to hear from you.
