Dogfighting And Cat Quirks

We are watching and waiting to see how well the stronger dogfighting law in Georgia works. It is now a felony to own, possess, train, transport or sell a dog for the purpose of dogfighting in Georgia. The law also covers those who bet on or advertise and promote events that include dogfights, and it makes attending a dogfighting event a misdemeanor of a high and aggravated nature.

This is an excerpt from Jan's July Paws for Pets newspaper column for the local Humane Society. Dogfighting Tip Line: The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, acting on information provided to the Humane Society of the United States through their tip line, raided Shake Down Kennels on July 3, just 2 days after the new dogfighting law went into effect. The HSUS offers up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in animal fighting. If you suspect or have knowledge of dogfighting, call the tip line at 877-TIP-HSUS.

And today, July 17, more good news. The Appalachian Circuit District Attorney's office raided Mountain Swamp Kennels in Blue Ridge, about 70 miles north of Atlanta. This raid was also the result of a tip on the HSUS 877 tip line.

This is a significant case, as its outcome could have a profound effect on several coveted dogfighting bloodlines. You can read about it here.

Buddy, Merci & Samaritan want to comment: Way to go, Georgia! If you know of or suspect dogfighting, call the HSUS 877 # for the tip line. Let's work together to kick some dogfighters' butts!

We've been tagged by Felix, Garfield & Jawsy the Mach Cats to do an unspectacular quirks meme. Hmmm. This sounds like it is right up our alley. And since there are 6 kitties here, we doggies will let them each have one turn.

The rules: Link to the one who tagged you. List the rules on your blog. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours. Tag some blogger friends with links. Leave a comment on their blog to let them know they've been tagged.

Crystal: 1) I like to beat on the closest window when Jan is trying to sleep.

Cotton: 2) I like my bed on top of the fridge so I can throw up down.

Cyndi: 3) When Jan serves us anything other than crunchies, I like to eat mine from a bowl on the kitchen chair.

Percy: 4) I don't let Jan clip all my nails each time. Just some of them.

Cameron: 5) I don't like fish very much.

Rusty: 6) I don't let Jan clip my nails at all.

JFF: No fair, Rusty! You don't have any nails on your front feet!

Rusty: Okay. I'm having a little trouble thinking of a quirk. How about, I like to sharpen the claws I don't have on the wall.
Because it drives Jan up the wall.

Let's see, who can we tag? We're not sure who's already done this one. How about Rocky & Bear, River, Deetz, Skeeter, LC, and Ayla, and the Island Cats.

  3. i met the sweetest pit girl named foxy last weekend. she was used as a bait dog :( and left tied out in an abandoned yard with no food or water.

in spite of that, and the medical issues she has had, she is doing FANTASTIC with her family and is just the sweetest love.

if i believed in dante's vision of hell i'd say there has to be a special circle of hell just for those who abuse innocent animals and children... but of course all hell is bad... but you know what i mean

  4. Dog fighting has to be the lowest of the low for entertainment, hell would be too nice of a place for those that are into this.

We are ready and heading out on the safari on the 18th. Too excited!!!!!! I know a lot of adventures are awaiting us.

  6. We are so glad Georgia passed a dog fighting law.

We are appalled by the beans who think it is sporting to watch animals hurt and kill one another. ~Socks, S & C

  10. Percy, I'm completely with you on the claw trim issue. Mom's lucky if she gets 2 done before I escape. I can proudly say I've NEVER had a complete claw trim all at once!

  11. you gots ta order how to raise a jewish dog next time you order some books from amazon. it's quite funny

i will say i am disappointed that there is some cursing in it including a couple of times where they take the Lord's name in vain which did deeply disappoint me especially since an orthodox jew would not even SAY the name yahweh, but they seem to be jewish in heritage more than religion

    but it's funny.

  18. We have a Pit Bull named Jesse who lives behind us. She is very scairty. Nobody but her humans can go in her yard or in her house. Her humans thinks that's a good thing that everybody is scairty of her. :sigh:

  19. Miss Peach sure did surprise me by telling you about my vintage car blog. I want to thank you so much for your nice visit too, she sure has some great friends. I hope you enjoyed wandering around the old cars and thank you for not clawing the upholstery. Next time you come by, I will have some cat nip waiting and Miss Peach will serve some of her tea. You can look all you want, you don't have to ride.

  23. Oh well done on the anti dogfighting laws. It's been outlawed here, too, and offenders are punished by severe gaol sentences, plus fines. Why would you want dogs to fight, anyway?

Your crew sound as if they're characters and keep you on your toes...lol.

    Thanks for visiting.

  24. We hope other states follow their lead. PA seems to be more focused on cracking down on their puppy mills and that's a very good thing. We're encouraged.

  26. Love the quirks! Thanks for visiting our blog and wishing my mom well. She is doing a little better but is still very tired. She says her foot is still hurting, but at least she can get around now.

  27. Yay for Georgia! Dog-fighting is one of the nastiest "sports" I have ever heard of. I love your quirks, especially Rusty sharpening the claws he doesn't have on the wall.

  28. We agree - way to go Georgia. We hope all the states follow and make this horrible sport illegal with stiff penalties.

  29. I suspect there's quite a bit of dog fighting in the rural areas of Florida. Good job on Georgia's part. Sounds like it's off to a good start.

  30. A cat who doesn't like fish - well that's okay because I'll eat your fish and you can have my chicken liver treats! And as for dogfighting, well, we sheepdogs always go by the rules that a well-bred dog does not fight, and, if you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics are gravely flawed! (Can't say much about those deplorable humans who think that it is entertaining, though!)

  31. Thats great news about the dog fighting. I am so happy to hear that they are putting in place such laws!

    ReplyDelete
  32. That law should be federalized, if it isn't already, because dog-fighting is no more sport than any other form of animal cruelty. It is evil!

I love it that Cotton throws up down! (but my mom says Jan probably doesn't)
