Pepper

We are sad today. We received a message from a friend who passed on a plea for help from Pepper's mom. Now, most likely none of you know Pepper, but most of us do know the pain of having a sick kitty or woofie and reaching the point of needing more help than we can provide on our own.

Pepper has a page but not a blog. We would like to introduce you to her. And just for the record, Pepper's Jan is not our Jan.

Pepper is a beautiful Russian Blue stray cat and was originally owned by serviceman Mike Bustillos based at Air Force Base/SAC Headquarters, Bellevue, NE who was deployed for emergency service and is still engaged overseas in Iraq.

Mike became the original Pepper Person when he took her in as a kitten. He had her for just over a year when he was called once again to serve his country. He loved Pepper enough to let her go. He was not sure how long he would be gone and he felt it was not fair to Pepper to keep leaving her for long periods of time. With a heavy heart Mike surrendered her to the great people at the Nebraska Humane Society in Omaha, Nebraska.

That was when Jan, Peppers present owner, came into Peppers life. December 15, 2007 and Jan and her son and husband were dealing with the grief of losing their wonderful family kitty Kitterz . In an attempt to overcome the pain of her loss Jan decided to stop by the local Humane Society not really expecting what she found. It was love at first sight. There was Pepper. With a pledge from Jan to the U.S. soldier, that she would love and take care of Pepper and give her a safe, loving home, off she went with Pepper in tow to start a new life together.

One month after getting Pepper, she started getting sick only I thought it was hairballs...she does have long hair and very silky too. After she started vomiting foamy stuff I took her to not 1, but 2 vets. They did diagnose Cholangitis (inflammation of the bile ducts) She couldn't keep food down, she had a fever of 103 and she was lethargic. The main cause of this disease is bacterial. Recovery from and recovery of the liver can be possible but involved a long period of antibiotics, fluid and food tubes for cats who loose their appetite. Pepper has had to have these tests done so far. Blood tests (CBC, blood chemical analysis), radiographs, ultrasonography, fine-needle aspirate, and liver biopsy.

She also suffered from Hepatic Lipidosis from not eating...but that can be reversed with feeding, hence the feeding tube in the neck.

The above are excerpts from Pepper's page where you can read the full story, see photos of Pepper and view copies of vet bills and estimates of treatment. There is a contact email address.

We hope Pepper is able to finish the necessary medical treatments and have a long, healthy life ahead of her. To visit Pepper, click here. (Update 3/7 -- Pepper died, her page is closed and fundraising efforts have ended.)

Skeezix's Scratching Post

The Funny Farm says I have to give an acceptance speech. I'm not much for speaking in public, but if I must...

I would, first of all, like to thank Skeezix for this beautiful award. I will display it proudly and treasure it always. I would like to thank Sassy of Little Productions for giving me the opportunity to participate in the CCSI production of "The Santa Caper." It was an amazing experience. I met so many nice cats and dogs and enjoyed every minute of it. I would like to thank all my castmates, the production crew and my adopted brothers and sisters of the Funny Farm.

What is it, Buddy? Stop elbowing me! Oh, thanks.

And I would like to thank Jan (who is standing behind me reading this over my shoulder) for giving me a home and feeding me a healthy diet so I was mentally and physically able to give the production my all.

Thank you all.

Percy,
Jan's Funny Farm

Here we are, late again. We intended to post about Boogie before this. We read about him on Maya & Kena's blog. In fact, that's where we picked up this poster. If you click on it, you will go to Deetz the Airedale Terror's blog where you can read more on Doogie.

Deetz's dad's is really worried about Boogie and believes he was stolen. We hope Boogie is returned/found soon.

Deetz has had other bad news recently. His friend Gizmo has cancer and isn't expected to be with him much longer. But for now, he's energetic and feeling better.

*******************
We met a new woofie today. Actually, we met several new woofies today, but this one is a Siberian Husky named Amici and he is having cluster seizures.

**********************
We have a little good news on Haggis, the missing Deerhound. He was sighted again at Albert Dr and Trillium St, Bowie, MD on February 22nd. The poster Sassy the cat made for him is on our sidebar. You can click on it to go read about him. You can also post Haggis' poster on your blog. If you don't know how to make it link to Haggis' site, email us at mercyandpercy at gmail dot com and we'll send you the code.

*********************

Churchill the cat is recovering well from his injuries, but for Bruno the woofie the news doesn't appear to be as positive. We come across news in our travels. Some of you are aware of one item but not another, so we try to remember who and where, but we're getting as bad as Jan about remembering.

*******************

And Delilah over at Dr. Tweety & the Fab 5's might have epilepsy. At least we assume that's what "eppa-leprosy" is. Or it could be "poisinon' from a azalea flowerz" that were on the kitchen table. (We love Dr. Tweety's English. He keeps us on our toes.)

Missy Blue Eyes' eye has healed and is fine. Whoopee! We're so glad.

We Aren't Lost

We thought perhaps we should post a note to let everyone know we aren't lost and we haven't forgotten you. Jan's been hogging the computer lately and we haven't had time to post. We have dropped by a few blogs now and then. If we don't get a new post up tomorrow, we will next week.

We really need to get your links up in the sidebar. Another project we haven't gotten done.

Meanwhile, we did drop by to check on Churchill and found very good news there.

Rascal finished week 3 of his chemo.

Jan went on an errand, so we can finally respond to Claudette, LacyLulu's mama's tag. So here goes -

A tag!!!!
The tag is to list four of the following:

Jobs I have had
1) Buddy - expert bedmaker
2) Plumber - Buddy, Merci and Percy
3) Bugcatching - all felines
4) Percy - actor in CCCSI's Christmas production

Movies I would watch over and over
1) Oops. We missed this category and posted LacyLulu's mama's answer.
2) We don't usually watch movies once, let alone over and over.
3) Jan won't give us money to go to the movie theater.
4) We feel a bit underprivileged here. We're going to have to steal - um, borrow Jan's remote and start checking out movies.

Places I have been
1) Phoenix, Arizona - Buddy and Samaritan, to visit Miss Pat, Chuy and Satch
2) Sidney - Charlie's birthday party
3) California - Percy (CCCSI cast party)
4) Cotton - Miss Peach's tea party

Places I have lived
1) Georgia, USA
2) Jan moves about once every century, so we haven't actually lived anywhere but here - yet.
3) We think another century might be ending in the somewhat near future, so stay tuned.
4) Sorry. Our bags are packed and we're ready to move ... whenever.

TV shows I watch
1) NO LAW & ORDER - The music makes my ears hurt and I howwwwwwwl! - Buddy
2) No Dog Whisperer! - Buddy, Merci & Samaritan
3) We don't actually have any favorite TV shows.
4) We usually just entertain ourselves on the computer.

People who email me regularly
1) Evelyn
2) KC
3) Bill
4) Mark

Favorite foods
1) Steak
2) Chicken
3) Fish
4) Anything! - Buddy & Samaritan's favorite

Places I would rather be
1) At an all-you-can-eat buffet - the canines
2) Squirrel/bird hunting - Buddy, Merci & Samaritan
3) A huuuuge house with 3 litter pans in each room - the felines.
4) A catnip greenhouse - the felines

Things I am looking forward to
1) Jan giving us back our computer so we can blog and visit our friends.
2) Having a huuuuuge fenced back yard so we can lie in the sunshine and barf up grass to our hearts' content.
3) Jan stocking the fridge with our favorite foods instead of hers.
4) Training Jan to come when called and wait on our every whim. (Well, we can dream, can't we?)

Actually, we think Jan was supposed to answer this tag, but we got tired of waiting on her so we decided to do it ourselves.

We tag Miss Peach, Cheysulli & Gemini, Asta and Gus & Louie.

Dr. Tweety And Fab 5

We hope you will stop by Dr. Tweety & the Fab 5 and leave a message of encouragement. Their mom is home after saying good-bye to her good friend.
