RUSTY:  Sam, do you think today will be the day?

SAM:  I don't know.  What day do you want it to be?

MICAH:  He's hoping today will be the day Jan installs the new monitor.

MERCI:  What's the big deal?  Our old one behaved itself all day yesterday.

CYNDI:  The big deal is the box.  You know we cats love a good box.  It makes the best toy!

PERCY:  We also love a big clothes basket bed, as you can tell from this black and white copy of an old photo.

MARCUS:  I wonder why Jan didn't make me one of those when I was small?  It looks comfy.

Flash Crackle Black

MERCI:  Thank you all for the nice comments about my photos yesterday.  Those of you with older furries know our looks change as we age, but we're always beautiful (or handsome) to our humans.  So even though I've grown older, I'm still me.

CYNDI:  This is the black and white version.  If you missed the other versions Saturday, you can view them in Mercy Miss Merci.

BUDDY:  Don't be surprised if we disappear for a while, or off and on.  We are all on the verge of a nervous breakdown  from these constantly flashing monitor banners.

PERCY:   It's so bad Jan disconnected this monitor yesterday afternoon and plugged in Mr. Doug's very heavy old one that takes up most of this desk.  

MICAH:  She's been struggling with pain for quite a while and lifting that back and forth has made it worse.

RUSTY:  She set it up and turned it on and it scared the ... well, it almost scared the ... Jan, can we say "crap"?  Okay, well it almost scared the pee out of her!  Us too!

CYNDI:  We have to admit it is seldom boring around here.   

SAM:  When Windows loaded, it started to imitate the old Snap, Crackle, Pop commercials we've heard about.

CAMERON:  Yeah, crackling and flashing like you wouldn't believe.  And then it went black.  Uh, how do you turn off a computer with no monitor to reach Shutdown?  Jan had to crash it.

MARCUS: She tried turning just the monitor on several times without the computer and it finally came back but it just kept doing the flashing, crackling, black.  Jan disconnected it, turned off the UPS, and pulled the plugs from the wall.

MICAH:  And then she took a shower.  I can't figure out how taking a shower helped us, but that's a human for you.  When everything is going wrong, they take a shower.

PERCY:  She plugged the original monitor in and we're trying hard to cope with the insistent flashing.  Jan says it has stomped her last nerve.  I wonder if anyone sells nerve repair kits online?

Ice Fishing

Cameron:  Jan said we're shutting down in five minutes so we better make a quick post.

Cyndi:  She was gone for hours and now she rushes us?  Pooh!

Snowball Pileup

Merci:  If you remember, we posted this old photo of me yesterday with our weekend art.  If you missed the different versions, you can view them all on A Polarized Merci. 

Percy:  This photo and the one above it are in black and white.  The difference is this one is polarized which partially reverses an image.  Together, they are for the Black and White Sunday blog hop co-hosted by Sugar the Golden Retriever and Dachshund Nola.

Buddy:  Our Sunday Smile is the Budweiser Clydesdale snowball fight video. We got a kick out of it. (Pun intended.)  It's only 30 seconds long. Moral of the video?  Who cares?  It's funny!

Cyndi:  We are fans of the Budweiser Clydesdales. Magnificent animals, always so patient and calm.

Marcus:  This is not part of our Sunday Smile but we're adding this longer video for other Clydesdale fans.

Sam:  This was the team working in a small arena when there was an equipment malfunction, a pileup and one of the huge animals went down.

Micah:  The announcer did a terrific job of keeping the audience calm and quiet while the Budweiser team went to work.

Cameron: We'd like to send Marcus to Budweiser for training. He's hyper and noisy. Those horses are so well-trained, they didn't panic but waited patiently to be unhitched. Even the one that went down.  Can you imagine the mayhem if those giants had panicked?

Rusty:  Does anyone have the Clydesdale stable's shipping address so we can send them Marcus? Or wait ... Jan is hyper too. Perhaps we should ship Jan for training and while she's gone, we'll train Marcus.

Mew Mew Quack

Rusty:  Micah keeps saying Jan in the doghouse, but you all know I claimed that doghouse a few years ago.  It's mine!  Jan needs to find her own.

Merci:  Why is Micah saying Jan is in the doghouse?  She didn't do anything bad I'm aware of.

Cameron:  That's because you dogs were busy walking Jan when she got herself into trouble.

Sam:  She did?  I don't remember anything unusual happening during our walk.

Cyndi:  You don't remember hearing the cat crying in the pen when you returned?

Buddy:  Yes, I do.  But there wasn't a cat anywhere inside the pen or outside it.

Percy:  When we came inside, we heard the cat crying again.  It was kind of faint.  Jan said it was coming from outside.

Micah:  Well, I wasn't outside.  Not exactly.  When Jan opened the back door, there I was, right where she left me when she shut the door - between the door and the screen. 

Marcus: Good thing you're not a fat cat.  It's no wonder you're upset with her.  She belongs in the doghouse. 

Rusty:  Not in my doghouse, she doesn't!  Get her out!

Merci:  Don't worry, it's a virtual place of punishment.  She's not physically in your doghouse. Besides, she wouldn't fit through the opening anyway.

Neighborhood Fruitcake

Cyndi:  It's the start of another week.  We hope this Sunday will be quiet and uneventful, unlike last Sunday when we had the scary weather.

 Micah:  This is the black and white version of this weekend's art.  We posted all the versions yesterday at We Are Better Artists.   Our favorite is the pencil sketch and it seems to be readers' favorite too.

Buddy:  We just have to tell this story on Jan.  She has earned the title of Neighborhood Fruitcake, in our eyes anyway.  We think the neighbors might be calling her something on the bad word list.

Merci:  Yesterday we dogs were outside in the pen.  We started barking and when Jan heard an itty bitty bark, she came running to the door to see if there was a small dog loose.

Sam:  A man and a woman were walking by at a slow pace.  Each had a puppy on a leash.  Jan started telling us to stop barking and be quiet.

Cameron:  But you guys paid no attention to her and what happened is all your fault because you wouldn't be quiet.

Rusty:  I was taking my mid-afternoon bath after my mid-afternoon nap and missed it.  What happened?

Marcus:  Jan yelled, "STOP! YOU'RE NOT PAYING ANY ATTENTION TO ME!"  The man and woman stopped and turned around slowly to look at Jan, who got very flustered knowing they thought she was yelling at them.  She didn't know what to do so she smiled and waved.  They stared, then turned and walked away.  We figure that couple will take a different route next time they walk their dogs.

Percy:  We have a fun video for your Sunday Smile.  Jan used to try to do exercises on the floor but gave it up and if you have a furry in your home, you know why.  Here is a fun video of dogs and cats interrupting  yoga exercises.  Happy Sunday.

Bambi Meets Brooke

Cameron:  Sunday is a peaceful day for us.  We have peace and quiet while Jan is at church and then finish our nap when she comes home.

Marcus: At least you have your freedom while you nap.  Jan has resumed putting me in a crate while she goes out.so I have to behave.

Cyndi:  Marcus, you're so full of energy now that it is cold Jan can't trust you not to chew things up while she is gone.

Micah:  It is so peaceful to have you in the crate.  You don't whine and can't try to provoke all of us to play. 

Rusty:  Yes, we love your crate time.  We can't touch the computer while Jan is out and you can't chase us around the house, so we get to nap.

Buddy:  You weren't crated when this picture was taken, Marcus.  This is the black and white version of our weekend art.

Sam:  And what would today be without our Sunday Smile?  In today's video, Brooke meets Bambi and is adorably gentle.

Percy:  Brooke is a Boston Terrier and Bambi is a baby deer.  What we'd lid to know is where is this young fawn's mama?  We sure hope they were reunited.

Blest Sunday Smile

Cyndi:  Ah, sweet Buddy, how well I remember when this photo was taken.  You climbed onto the stool only to find we cats had already emptied our food bowl.

Micah:  I wasn't born yet, but I can see the depth of Buddy's pain.  What a sad moment for a pup with a bottomless pit appetite.

Buddy as a pup.

Buddy:  You cats had no right to eat that food.  You knew I had my eye on it.  You should have waited until I emptied the bowl and then let Jan know the bowl needed a refill.

Cameron:  I'm sorry, but I need to ask this.  How could you not understand the cat kibble was for us C-A-T-S? 

Buddy:  I did understand.  But I didn't think you guys would mind sharing a bowl or three with me on occasion.

Rusty:  For our Sunday Smile, we have a short video of an energetic 14-week-old Vizsla puppy that can't be still when bored.  He always has to be the center of attention. 

Marcus:  He reminds me of someone.  I just can't put my paw on it at the moment, but his actions are so familiar.  Oh,wait, that's me!  I also have to always be the center of attention.

Sam:  This week the service cats Dezi and Lexi have asked others to join them in their weekly Blest Sunday post. We generally do Thankful Thursday but, hey, we are blessed, so why not participate!  

Percy:  Hey, Sam, I think we're supposed to actually mention some way we've been blessed.  How about the fact that Jan finally got our heat turned on last night?  It's never warm in here in winter, but at least it's a couple of degrees closer. 

Cyndi:  After last weekend, I hope Jan isn't expecting a tip for turning it on before spring.

Micah:  If she is, we could always tip her what she deserves for last weekend - 20 % of 40-odd degrees. 

Merci:  Cameron, you're our math expert.  What do we owe her?

Cameron:  Let's see.  Last weekend it was freezing cold and extremely windy, so it was something above 40 degrees in the house.  Multiply 40 by 3, divide by 5, add 6 so she doesn't turn into an icicle, and ... oops, sorry, she's going to become an icicle anyway.  Perhaps we should let her wear her winter coat and wrap in a blanket when we pay her what she's due?

Frozen Sundae

Buddy: I thought today is supposed to be Sunday Smile day and Black and White Sunday, but it feels more like Frozen Sundae.

Micah:  I know what you mean.  It's so cold in here my teeth are chattering.  Good thing Jan threw some beds together for us kitties last night.

Cyndi:  Yes, she does this every winter.  She makes us beds of a dishpan lined with fleece and topped with a gizzy quilt.

Rusty:  My bed is a rectangular laundry basket lined with newspapers and and covered with an old dog bed.. 

Cameron:  Why are we talking about beds?  I thought we were going to post the black and white version of our weekend art. 

Sam:  We are ... just did.  That little guy sitting so regally in the back is you before you came to live here.  If readers missed the other versions and a little of your story, they can read yesterday's post, Live Like Royalty.

Percy:  Actually, we live more like impoverished royalty, but we have a home and each other, so we're happy.

Marcus:  And Jan got us three new dog beds just in time for this weather.  One ... two ... three ... aren't there four of us dogs?  I think we need another bed.

Merci:  And Jan will buy us one just as soon as she wins the lottery.

Rusty:  Doesn't she have to play to win?

Merci:  Well, yes, there is that little detail.

Percy: I don't know why Marcus is complaining.  He jumps the gate and sleeps on the bed anyway.

Marcus:  But I do like to spend time in the living room with all of you, so I need my own bed.  It's only fair.

Buddy:  Hang in there, Marcus.  Maybe Jan will knit you one if she learns to knit. 

Cameron:  We liked this video and hope it will make you smile too.  This is what happens when a tame buffalo meets the children's trampoline.

Sam: That would likely be Jan. She's in such a crabby mood since she started deep cleaning the house and cut a chunk out of her hand. If there are any numbers floating around, she's more likely to stick a pin in them than to dust or vacuum them.

Playful Kitten Gang

Percy:  What are you doing, Cyndi?  You look like you're doing some kind of a rain dance.  Haven't we been enduring enough thunderstorms lately?

Cyndi:  I am not doing a rain dance, Mr. Smartypants.  I'm doing my version of a weekend happy dance.

Buddy:  Have you considered taking dancing lessons before you -  ... uh, before you throw Jan's shoe at me?  Never mind.  You're doing great.

Merci:  Well, I think Cyndi is a great dancer.  She's very light on her feet and she moves with grace.

Marcus:  Grace?  Who's Grace?  How come I haven't met Grace?  Can I have the next dance with her?

Rusty:  *shakes head*  You still have a lot of space between those big ears, Marcus.

Cyndi:  What is cuter than a kitten with a baby?  Nothing!  But if no kitten is available, a cute puppy will suffice.

Marcus:  You just called me a cute puppy.

Cyndi:  No, I didn't call you cute.  I ... never mind.

Percy:  This is Charlie the beagle pup.

Merci:  So why did he steal the baby's toy?

Sam:  Jealousy?  I'd sure be jealous if a little pipsqueak was getting all the attention around here.

Micah:  Seriously, you aren't calling the baby a pipsqueak, are you?

Sam:  No, I was calling the I-have-to-have-all-the-attention toy-stealing pipsqueak with the pointy ears a pipsqueak.

Marcus:  Who's that?

Rusty:  I think he means you, Marcus.  You do try to hog all the attention.  Not to mention you steal all the toys.

Basset Clown House

Micah:  Can you believe it's Sunday again already?

Rusty:  Nope.  Wonder where the week disappeared?

Sam:  Jan keeps saying time flies but I haven't seen any flying around.  Have any of you?

Marcus:  Yes, I did.  I saw some flying by this morning.  It sure can flyso fast I can't see its wings move.

Cameron:  That wasn't time, Marcus.  That was a hummingbird.

Marcus:  But Micah said it was time flying.

Cyndi: He was just pulling your leg, Marcus. *raises paw*  No, don't say a word.  I mean Micah was joking.

Merci and Buddy

Buddy:  This is the black and white version of the picture Jan turned into two "devil dogs" earlier in the week.  The one we posted yesterday in sepia, devil dog, pencil drawing art and in the original.  Except the original turned out to be the wrong photo.

Imaginary Coffee

Cameron:  This has been an insane week!  We're so glad the weekend is here.

Micah:  Yes, we need to sleep for at least nine days to recuperate.

Merci:  Why are we glad the weekend is here if we're just going to sleep?

Marcus:  We could do that any day of the week.  And why for nine days?

Sam  Oh, I bet I know.  It's because Jan said she's going to need three three-day weekends to recover.  Right?

Micah:  Don't look at me like I'm whacko.  Three three-day weekends equals nine days. So why not just pretend the weekends are back to back and get some proper rest?

Merci:  That's not a bad idea, Micah.  How soon can we begin?

Cameron:  How about now?  Or as soon as we finish this post!

Buddy:  Today is Sepia Satureday.  Cyndi is a calico so she looks great in sepia.

Rusty:  This is the original photo.  She sure is a beauty.  Oh, I shouldn't say that, she'll get a swelled head.

 

Cyndi:  I will not get a swelled head. But Jan chose the colors for this frame, so she must be color blind.  This is her idea of Caturday Art?  *sigh* 

 

Percy:  Hey, Cyndi, the sepia and this black and white look kind of arty.

Cyndi:  I don't know.  Without the colors, it looks rather like one of you spilled Jan's coffee and it ran.

Percy:  Females!  There's no pleasing them!  Do you want me to find you a rag so you can wipe up the imaginary coffee, Cyndi?

Old Friends Reunion

Percy:  We are going to make a very short post for our Sunday Smile this week.

Merci:  This is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Marcus:  Because I'm still waiting on my breakfast.  I'm a growing boy and I'm starving!

Marcus:  Oh, right.  Well, I get a bit confused writing tomorrow's post today.  

Cameron:  Dogs!  All they ever think about is food.  Hmmm, I wonder if Jan filled our crunchy bowl yet?

Micah:  I think I heard the sound of crunchies bouncing into a dish a few minutes ago.

Sam:  Hello, we're writing a post here.  Can all of you please stop talking about food so we dogs can stop thinking about food!

Buddy: I never stop thinking about food.  But I will try, long enough to introduce a very short video.  We don't know any horses, but evidently they bond with friends just as much as we dogs and cats do.  Here is the reunion of a horse and a camel.  Yes, you heard right.  A horse and a camel.  Watch.

Dirt Flavoring

Micah:  We like to do Sepia Saturday, Caturday Art and Black & White Sunday using a series of the same photograph for that week.  It's interesting to see just a smidgeon of what can be done with a picture.

Rusty:  Here are Merci, me and Sam giving Jan the back of disrespect last winter.  We asked Jan to lighten it a bit and this is the lightened version.

Merci;   Don't worry.  We're not going to try to teach you anything because we don't actually know anything.  We just have fun watching Jan play with these for us.  This is the original.  Notice how Sam looks like he needs a bath but he wasn't actually dirty.

Sam:  Because we used the lightened photo for the rest of this series, I don't look like I need a bath in this sepia version. 

Cameron:  This is the Photoshop Elements "newspaper" black and white.  It is too light and clear for any newspaper we've seen Jan read.  Perhaps she reads the wrong newspapers?

Percy:  Jan tried a colorful frame for Caturday Art.  Hmmm, not bad.  It does make the black and white stand out.  Do you think it needs a little something, Buddy?

Buddy:  Oh, I don't know.  Possibly.  Perhaps you'll prefer the color version n a colorful frame.  I kind of like it myself.  But then readers have different taste so some might prefer the black and white.

Cyndi:  Marcus, you get stranger by the day.  You're licking the original version of the photo.  Why?

Marcus:  I'm taste testing.  It looks dark and dirty and I love dirt.  But it doesn't taste like dirt.  I think Jan forgot to add flavoring.  Do any of you know where she keeps the dirt flavoring?

Cyndi:  Happy Sunday to all.

Micah:  We have a fun video for you today.

San:  But first we have to appease Marcus.

Cameron:  What do you mean by appease Marcus?  Have we done something wrong?

Merci:  No, we haven't done anything wrong.  That's just an expression.

Rusty:  It means we have to take care of Marcus-related business first.

Marcus:  Yes, please, let's take care of me first.  Yesterday we posted the original of this photo, along with a sepia and an arty version.  Personally, I like the sepia version the best.  And you all know why.  *whisper*  'Cause I love the color of dirt! 

Buddy:  Today we post this version for the Black and White Sunday blog hop, co-hosted by Golden Sugar and Dachshund Nola.

Percy:  And we have this fun video, guaranteed to make you smile.  There is nothing like a human starting the day with some kisses and cuddles from a furry friend. 

Cyndi:  Yep, kisses and cuddles, a broken nose or two, a cauliflower ear, and ...

Buddy:  Hey, you're exaggerating, Cyndi!  It's not like that at all.

Cameron:  It's not?  Did you actually watch it or are you just making an assumption?

Sam:  Uh, well, we woofies didn't bother watching it yet. 

Merci:  Yeah, dogs waking up their humans.  It has to be a shoulder-tapping, kiss on the nose type of video.

Percy:  Go ahead, delude yourselves, if you want.  The rest of us will watch the reality video.

Marcus:  Reality video?  You mean someone filmed me waking up Jan?

Micah:  You don't video Jan if you value your life!

Rusty:  But if someone had, this might be what they'd see ...
